Bethesda will there be a patch for PS3 GOTY?

"If the game fails to run on multiple consoles, contact our Technical Support representatives for further assistance."

kinda wonder what that would accomplish.. do they send out the same copy/pasted email again?

If the bugs are not fixed within a reasonable time I wonder if a class action can be filed for the PS3 DLC and or PS3 GOTY add on content.

Like many of you I have been having the same issues with the game freezing as well, mostly at just one area how ever, that being the Citadel. The game first started to freeze and lock up in that area when I was returning with a Tesla Coil. Since it kept freezing every time I tried to enter, or walk around the outside perimeter of the Citadel I sent an email for possible solutions to the problem, and I got a reply about 48 hours later.

I am sure most of you have done the above also, and in my case it worked. At least, it worked till after I complete d the "Who Dares Wins" quest, and I am no longer able to enter the Citadel without the game freezing once more. Thinking that it might just be lagging I left the game alone for a total of eight ( 8 ) hours and came back to find it still locked in the same position of just facing the door. I am currently waiting for a reply from Bethesda on this, since I have attempted this fix at least a dozen times.

Doesn't work for me and I am sure it is not the PS3. Bunch of lock ups last night in Point Look Out Urghhhhh.

Too many lock ups at lookout last night and today. Time to move on I went through the original game once and hit a frustrating level 30 the second time. I'll sell off my two copies and try to get back $50 (makes me glad I bought the GOTY and not DLC after all). $50 for both will cover one of them so I won't feel to bad. I have Dragon Age and Demon's Soul ready to roll so why suffer anymore Fallout frustration. As long as I use the PS3 platform and it has Bethesda on it I'll just pass for something else no matter how enticing the game maybe.

I wouldnt let Fallout 3 put your thoughts down about other Beth games Oblivion on the PS3 runs very smooth it only has a few bugs nothing that makes it frustrating to play.

Know how you feel though its a lot of money to pay for such a unplayable game, possibly even console breaking hard resets on PS3 = Big No No

Yeah, the issue you described has been around, for what feels like, forever.

No serious attempt yet to fix it for over a year.

Another thing you can try is to rollback to older saves, to hopefully get to one that doesn't freeze at the Citadel.

That would be a good idea, only I deleted the older saves in order to try and get it to work also. Makes me wish that I had a memory card/stick for my PS3 instead of a massive hard drive for it at times. It is a lesson learned however.

"If the game fails to run on multiple consoles, contact our Technical Support representatives for further assistance."

kinda wonder what that would accomplish.. do they send out the same copy/pasted email again?

I have yet to hear back from them, but it is now the weekend so I most likely won't hear anything till Monday. I am curious if I would get that kind of email also.

It hasn't worked for me either past the first time that I did it. Now however I am finding the game freezes at other areas, such as Anadale. I discovered the area and then the game froze and locked up. Doors I can understand it locking up, but with open areas it is a bit much to take. Right now I am back at the Citadel and it has frozen again, so back to rebooting the system again, rinse and repeating the steps. My next attempt will be attempt 27 or so at trying to regain access.

It absoultely should put your thoughts down about all other bethesda games -- why would you support a company that just took a giant dump in every ps3 customer's mouth? I remember having lots of issues with Morrowind and Oblivion when they first came out -- the difference was that back then I guess Betheseda actually gave a rat's ass and fixed the majority of the bugs.

Well, I got a reply from Bethesda about my freezing problem on the PlayStation 3. I have to admit it was not what I expected...

Hello,

Save games that are corrupted cannot be repaired. Please try loading a different save game from an earlier point to see if this resolves the issue. Try the steps below to prevent the problem from happening again.

1. We generally suggest making fairly frequent saves and alternate save game slots. This way, if one save game file goes bad, you can use one of your other recently saved games. If you have used any cheats then it may affect your save game.

2. Before starting the game, make sure all background applications are closed. Use the steps below to do so based on the operating system on the computer.

Windows 98/98se/ME:
- Click Start, and Run.
- In the Open: box type: "msconfig". Click OK. This will bring up the System Configuration Utility.
- Click on the Startup tab. Write down everything that is checked so you can restore the configuration if desired. (Or, take a screen shot of it and store it in My Documents.)
- Uncheck everything except ScanRegistry and SystemTray (Systray).
- Click Apply and OK.
- Answer Yes to Restart Windows.

Windows 2000
First, press CTRL+ALT+DEL once. This will bring up the Windows Security dialog box. Click on the Applications button. In Applications screen, highlight one of the entries, then click on the End Task button to close the program. Repeat until this list is empty.

Next, look in the lower right hand corner. Right click on any of the icons and Exit or Quit out of those programs.

Windows XP:
- Click Start, then Run
- In the Open: box, type msconfig. Click OK
- On the General Tab, click the Selective Startup option.
- Uncheck the option to Load Startup Items.
- Click Apply and Close.
- Answer Yes to Restart Windows.

3. Make sure to run Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter regularly

Windows 98/98se/ME:
To run Scandisk in Windows 98 and ME
- Double click on My Computer.
- Right click on the C: and choose Properties.
- Click on the Tools tab.
- Click on Scan Now.
- In the window at the top, make sure your hard drive is selected. if you have multiple hard drives, then this will need to be done for each drive separately.
- In the middle, make sure Thorough is selected (not Standard).
- Click on "Automatically fix errors" to put a checkmark by it.
- Click on Start to begin.
- Once finished, ScanDisk will display a summary. Click on Close to close the summary and Close again to close ScanDisk

This can generally take between 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the hard drive. One ScanDisk is done, Disk Defragmenter can be run.

- Double click on My Computer.
- Right click on the C: and choose Properties.
- Click on the Tools tab.
- Click on Defragment Now.
- Make sure your hard drive is selected and click on OK.
- Disk Defragmenter may report that it is not necessary to be run Disk Defragmenter at this time. Click on Start to start the process anyway.

Disk Defragmenter can often take between 30-60 minutes to run depending on the size of the hard drive. If you have multiple hard drives, make sure this is done for all the hard drives in the computer.

Windows 2000/XP:
Disk Check and Disk Defragmenter are two tools built into Windows 2000 and XP that can used to clean up a multitude of problems. They search the hard drive for errors and optimize the hard drive for efficiency. It is generally recommended to run Disk Check before running Disk Defragmenter. Before running either of the utilities, make sure to exit all other applications.

NOTE: You must be logged in on an Administrator level account to run these utilize.

To run Disk Check:
- Double click the My Computer icon.
- Right-click on a hard drive icon, then choose Properties from the menu that appears.
- Click the Tools tab, then click the Check Now button under the Error Checking section.
- In the Check Disk window, make sure to put a check mark next to both options, then click the Start button

If you receive a message "The Disk Check could not be performed...", click the yes button and restart the computer.

The Disk Check can generally take between 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the hard drive. Once this is done, Disk Defragmenter can be run.

- Double click the My Computer icon.
- Right-click on a hard drive icon, then choose Properties from the menu that appears.
- Click the Tools tab, then click the Defragment Now button under the Defragmentation section.
- Highlight a drive in the list that appears, then click the Defragment button.

Disk Defragmenter can often take between 30-60 minutes to run depending on the size of the hard drive. If you have multiple hard drives, make sure this is done for all the hard drives in the computer.

Using these steps can help to prevent problems with saved games

... I have a headache now from all this.

I think the most appropriate remark I can make is this: "Trained Monkeys could do a better job! :brokencomputer: " I mean what was going through that idiots head to send you information meant for the PC version when you were asking for help with the PS3 version :banghead: ! I despair I really do! Us PS3 and 360 users have been waiting for 14 months now and the majority of the major bugs STILL haven't been fixed!!!!

I now have ZERO hope or faith that we will see anymore updates for either the vanilla game or the DLC this side of Hell freezing over which should be a few thousand years time by which time no-one will give a dam!

Bethesda you have REALLY screwed up this time! You should take a leaf out of Infinity Wards book who have patched COD: MW2 4-5 times in the 2 MONTHS since it came out whereas us FO3 console users have had 4 patches in 12 months and the PC Users have had 7! I used to defend your incompetence thinking (Misguidedly) that you would at least fix the game breakers ASAP but as I've already said in 14 months VERY few of the major bugs have been fixed (In fact MORE Have been added) and the fact that there has been little communication from anyone in the know Says it all!

I can no longer play FO3 in a calm state as I'm always waiting on tenter hooks for the next crash, freeze up or other annoying bug to hit so I hope for you sake that your next game is better supported and you actually LISTEN to the fans before abandoning them.

This is NOT a rant but a statement of disappointment with the company and I'm NOT advocating a boycott of future games as that would be a futile and pointless gesture that would only hurt us gamers in the long run.

The state of this game is shameful. Bethesda, how can you not fix this game? Any idiot who plays the game could have reported these bugs during development, do you not even test your software? I posted upthread that the game was playable but I've finally reached the state others have described, it now crashes at least once an hour, sometimes every few minutes. This is truly terriblie, a black mark on your reputation for quality if you don't fix this. How does it make your development and creative people feel who created this incredible game only to see it utterly RUINED by these bugs?

I'm not certain but my guess is they will patch this. If you calculate it very coldly from a business point of view, you will realize they need to patch sometime before they release Fallout Vegas or some other installment because, as they see it, all would be forgiven at that point and it then won't hurt future sales. But they really have made their statement of how they regard us, haven't they? Their moderators keep saying how Bethesda doesn't make any announcements so as not to promise something that might not happen or get delayed. That strategy doesn't make sense on two counts. First it implies they might NOT do anything and that really svcks. Second it implies because they don't want to announce and have it be late. Well here is brilliant idea, why not just apologize for selling a broken game and announce a patch at some later time to be announced. GTA4 was a far more anticipated release and had a terrible bug when it came out and what did Rockstar do? They immediately apologized, and said they were working on a patch (they didn't feel on the hook to provide an exact date either). So we all calmly put the game down and waited patiently. So assume whatever date the next installment comes out, that will be likely be close to the date we'll see a FO3 patch and be able to finish the game.

I have no hope at all for a patch for a few reasons.

When the game first came out, there were numerous posts by gamesas from Gstaff stating that they were looking into issues, asking for more reports, and asking for save files. Then 1.1 patch came out late 2008 and those posts turned into a, "DLC primer patch will be available before the DLC is released to implement trophies." The DLC patch came out, rarely with any bug fixes. After the GOTY came out, the "patch" posts turned into, "We are looking into the Canada GOTY save compatibility issue and testing a fix." After the Canada patch finished, gamesas also addressed the original Fallout 3 French-Canadian issue so that the game would have trophies. This patch was preceded by the, "We are looking into the issue" type of posts.

Bottom line is, before any patch was released, there was some general activity of posts from gamesas. However, in all the time the GOTY has come out, there has not been a single "We are looking into the issue / We are working on a patch / Please post more information so we can work on the patch / Please send save game files to us" post with regards to GOTY bugs/glitches in these forums from gamesas.

I believe the saying goes "writing on the wall." Bethesda has a decision to make, and that decision must be made from the top down. They are selling a game that barely plays past a certain point. They have suggested many fixes and have blamed countless problems of which no alteration yields any form of long-term relief. The top management (let us all take a quick snapshot for the history books) have chosen to ignore the many pleas from their subjects begging for a team spirit solution. These executives (let us confirm the snapshot) should be followed as they move around the gaming industry; for wherever they land, their code of ethics, and or their mode of operation will follow. They will undoubtedly allow terminally ill games to be released robbing loyal and new customers from revenue that could have been spent on other titles. They will not follow-up basic human accountability providing paths to a solution. These executives have sent a clear message, and that message is a clear and blatant disregard for customer happiness. They are unable to mitigate the obstacles in a tactful and timely manner. They have elected to keep their customers in the dark as they go month in and month out offering no acknowledgment or strategy to fix the problems.

Let us take that snapshot. Let us remember who is running Bethesda, and let us follow them like hawks following their prey. Let us blog and write as they attempt to hide their failed record of developing solid video games and dealing with moments of true advlt defining hardships like this one. Let us hold the banner of Peter Principle written in flashing neon lights as they walk amongst us reminding the world of their incompetency.

Complain not my Bethesda execs, you've had your chance to solve the problem. We have earned our right to brand you for the rest of your days.

They should have just stuck with no DLC or GOTY for PS3. Sure I would have been bummed in a drooling kind of way but I wouldn't have felt ripped off. I would be excited for the next release and might have even played FO3 for a third time before the next title came out or even picked up a PC version just for the DLC. Now I have two games, I'm pissed at Bethesda, I feel I have been taken advantage of by some greedy game makers.

The games ratings on Amazon for PS3 are abysmal. Everyone reports the same issues. This has to be affecting their bottom line. From a purely business perspective, it's a really bad idea to leave the product in this state. It will impact all current and future sales and the franchise itself.

Well, I have been keeping up with emails with Bethesda on the problem. As you all can see from above they gave me the trouble shooting ideas for the PC version instead of the PS3 version. Now I have a reply from them on the PS3 version, which I shall post here, as I have done with the previous emailed solutions from Bethesda. I removed the customer number, since it really is just for telling them what the file number is and what number customer I am. I did however use the same number of X's for each number, it is a big number.

2. We also suggest copying any save games to a memory card each day to keep a backup in case your Playstation hard drive fails.

3. Delete any save files or games you no longer use from your Playstation hard drive. Saved data for PLAYSTATION?3 format software is saved on the system's hard disk. The data is displayed under (Saved Data Utility).
NOTE: Saved data is managed separately by each user. If more than one user exists under (Users), items displayed under (Saved Data Utility) will vary depending on the user who is logged in.

Using these steps can help to prevent problems with saved games.

Your customer number is XXXXXXXXX
Please refer to case #:: XXXXXXXXX if you have any further questions.

If you need further assistance, you can also reach us online at http://support.gamesas.com or our technical support staff at (410)-568-3685. Please include all previous replies when/if responding to this message.

I guess this means I shall have to go out and purchase a memory card for each game that I have in order to make back ups of all the saved files. I wonder how much that is going to set me back.

You can backup the save files onto a usb thumb drive, if you have one already. Not sure if you already know this, but you also need to backup the save files through the PS3 backup utility, since the Fallout 3 save files are protected and you'll also need to load them onto either the same PS3 or the same PSN profile. Otherwise, you're not going to be able to save after loading the file, due to trophy protections.

I have joined this forum specifically to comment on my experience with Fallout 3 GOTY.

I'm a RELATIVELY new PS3 owner having just got back into gaming after being absent from the gaming scene for almost 15 years.

I am currently confused beyond all belief with this game.

On The Positive Side
It is pretty much the best video game I have ever played and I have been completely svcked in by it - as my very annoyed wife will testify!!

On The Negative Side
I have already experienced my first 'freezes' (5 hours into gameplay) where I have had to power off my PS3 at the wall socket, restart the game and load from my most recent save.

I have recently moved onto Fallout 3 GOTY having just played Lego Star Wars The Final Saga for over a month (>50 hours actual play time) without a single crash/freeze.

COME ON BETHESDA - PLEASE RELEASE A PATCH FOR FALLOUT 3 GOTY AND RESTORE MY FAITH IN YOUR SOFTWARE!!

They probably took a few brown envelopes from Microsoft to make sure that the PS3 version was worse. Wouldn't put it past them at all.

You could always try digging this if you want : http://digg.com/playstation/Fallout_3_GOTY_Broken_Bethesda_takes_your_money_and_runs

Even if you haven't got a digg account, if you're that annoyed make one, digg it, and see if we can get it onto the front page.

Perhaps, but I think it has more to do with the fact that the game has a year less of development on PS3, this is gamesas's first inhouse development on the PS3 platform, and the game was most likely rushed out. Keep in mind that the majority of actual game/quest bugs exist in all platforms. In any case, seems like the developers couldn't figure out what to do with loading the game data efficiently enough to keep the game from stuttering/freezing.
