Bethesda - Would you please patch in holstered weapons

Post » Mon Feb 15, 2016 3:53 pm

It drives me crazy that weapons disappear when you holster them. It doesn't feel right to run around a dangerous wasteland without a single weapon visible on you body. Could just as well have left out clothes and armor too then, and have us run around in underpants. Makes just as much sense. Can't understand how you came to the conclusion that this was not equally important?!

What I would truly love to see though (and what I expected), is a feature that show all the weapons you have favorited holstered on your body. One of each type that is, meaning if you have favorited two or more rifles, it would only show the last one used, and same for guns and so on. It was a mod like this for Skyrim I think, brilliant in its simplicity, and it was awesome! I was almost certain Bethesda would take notice. Now I worry that when Bethesda hasn't even provided the holstered weapons' positions or animations for drawing/holster weapons, it will be a long time before we see anything like it for this game. Makes me sad.

Not going to happen the armor is too bulky there's no static place that wouldn't clip or look weird.

It does make you seem a bit more "naked" running around the world without at least your currently equipped weapon showing. Enough people have been complaining about it that I at least hope they consider trying to find a way to bring it back. If not, we'll have to see if modders can pull it off, which, from what I've read, may be a lot more difficult than you'd think.

Used to work in FO3 and NV, and those games had a lot of bulky armors.

Same with Oblivion and Skyrim, but you're just going to hear the same argument over and over again: the new layered armor system would either cause severe clipping issues or the weapons would have to be holstered so far away from the player's body that it would look ridiculous.

I don't get why they couldn't do it, They could probably have a dynamic system where weapons move based on what apparel you are wearing (Excluding power armor)

I wish they would fix this. I thought video games were supposed to become more technologically advanced, not less. This reverts back to 2002-era Morrowind when weapons did not show on our characters.

While the layered armor is certainly part of the issue, I have the feeling the biggest part is the weapon modding. There are so many possible versions of each weapon it'd be a nightmare to get them all rendered correctly holstered, especially with the armor system. There are many more variables than in previous games.

I didn't like this change at first, but consider how MANY weapons you can have at any given time in your inventory. When I go to swap weapons in combat or whatever, the transition makes me very aware of the disparity between my inventory space and my characters appearance. I know some people only let themselves carry a few weapons at a time as a way to simulate a real combat output, but I'm usually picking up 10-11 depending on weight, at any time. So I guess after considering that, I'm not really bothered by the fact that I can no longer see my Combat Rifle on my back, because I can't see the Combat Shotgun I have or my 10 mm pistol on my hip either.

I've said it before and I will say it again: they need to update the inventory screen and allow us to equip a primary, secondary, and sidearm, and then have those weapons show on our character. In combat, you can switch between those freely, but you can only swap them out outside of combat. It would look cool to see weapons stacked on our body and it would add more tactical decision making pre-combat. I feel like its a win-win, but I don't think that is high on their priorities or it might be more difficult to put in than I think. Clipping is a major joy kill, but as long as it isn't egregious, I can deal with it a bit.

game can better use the textures and attendant memory usage elsewhere and to better effect.

There's weapon modding, layered armor, configurable body size, and making sure the actual animations to grab the weapons sync up.

It's a matter of taste, but I'd rather have no visible holstered weapons than constantly see my holstered weapons clipping with whatever I'm wearing, or worse, floating like the quivers or bolts in Skyrim.

i can see where affixing a weapon to the side and leg and shoe and earlobe would get kinda monotonous and there would be a helluva lot of clipping. then people would complain about that, no doubt.

my solution would be to do like fo3 and just slap it on your back. unless your in power armor, then they would be hidden. mainly because there's no good placement where it wouldn't be ridiculous looking.

i gave a nickel for my 2cents and i want change back!

Mods, Mods never change.

That is a thing in previous Bethesda games, called the "offset" value. It changes delending on how bulky your armor is for holstered weapons to look right.

Lol have you noticed how much we can draw on the sceen in one frame in this day and age ?! This isn't 1990.

A huge task.

I don't expect modders to come up with this in a hurry either, if ever.

Now do it for every armor, with every weapon, with every possible mod combo, while making it not look terrible.

This.

As far as I'm aware it does work on every armor. At least whatever is in my inventory thus far. I haven't tried in power armor, but the fact that it a modder has done it without the appropriate modding tools tells me that it was laziness on Bethesda's side.. I mean if an unpaid modder could, then I'm sure 80+ paid developers could.

Of course I could be wrong.

Fallout is really a first person game. They probably don't care much.

I think it's part of armorsmith extended. At least that's how I crafted it.

That's what I assumed to be the case too. The only time I ever play in third person is if I want to see what my gear looks like. It's strange because I'm always playing in first person, so I shouldn't care at all how my character looks lol

Personally the lack of holster doesn't bother me since I had no issue with it in GTA. I just don't like saying it was an impossibility or anything since clearly it was a choice they made in design if a modder is able to do it then at the very least some of the weapons could have used holsters.

Since Fallout 4 has cloth animations now. I'm sure Bethesda Game Studios employees could make all of the firearms that have holsters to give them straps at the belt line or slings for rifles and show up over armor and jiggle when your jog, run, sprint, whatever and jump.

In this day and age of the technologies we have the physics today to make clipping of weapons in armor almost disappear if you take your time to do it properly.

It seems to me reading peoples complaints about no holsters for firearms that the Bethesda Game Studios employees just didn't feel like taking their time to give holsters with straps and slings with animations and physics.

I hate this argument. Neither Beth nor the devs are lazy. They may prioritize things differently than players, and many players may dislike their choices, but that doesn't make them lazy.

Crafted it?... Okay, looking at it now, there's a huge difference between just attaching a static model to your armor, and actually having your equipped weapon show up on your body and you can grab it and use it. And in some of those screenshots, http://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/mods/1151/images/2228-1-1452330226.jpg!
