Bethesda: WTF DID YOU DO?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 6:52 am

I love Skyrim and it′s certainly the best game I′ve ever played.
but WHAT THE FLYING [snip] were they thinking about this patch?
Let′s break this down:
We now HAVE to use steam to open up Skyrim.
We suffer minimal power loss because of Steam running in the background.
We cannot LAA-adress our .exe to use all of our RAM.
Therefore, modded Skyrims will likely crash after every 10 minutes of gameplay.
...while the PIRATES, which should be stemmed by this patch, remain completely unaffected as they are not using steam at all.

Is there even ANY benefit to this patch?
I′d say no, and that being said, the only thing to do at the moment is probably to rewrite the exe with an old version, which I′m probably not allowed to share around here.
Spoiler
Oh my, where do all these 1′s and 0′s in my signature come from?

Seriously, Bethesda, please fix this as soon as possible.
Does anyone know a working LAA-workaround so I can get my game running stable again?

We cannot LAA-adress our .exe to use all of our RAM.

You can still do it without modifying the game exe : http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013

I said something smart on one of the many other patch bashing posts but I can't find it. So I'll paraphrase.
Steam did it for security measures from what I've heard.
Bethesda didn't do it.
Steam probably didn't really have a choice.
Mods are already being remade, and will probably work within the next 24 hrs.
So the complaining is not necessary and really is just annoying the vast majority of the forum.

Dude, this is not about remaking mods, It′s about them having anough RAM to operate without crashing. You can′t make a 4k texture mod work with 1GB of RAM out of nowhere.
The only thing that has to be remade is the LAA-fix, and this shouldn′t be made more complicate neither by steam or Bethesda.

Lol PC problems. At least now us console players can be the elitists who always look down on the others for playing 'an inferior system and ruining the good name of Elder Scrolls'. So all of these people complaining about the game on PC got what was coming to them. Then again... I play on PC once I beat the game on console.

I could play it without any mods and still have it look b... EDIT: No, screw it, I don′t wanna start a flamewar here. I have a Wii and a 360 too. Consoles and PC′s have benefits. Let′s all be friends

I don't use any mods at this point and it runs perfectly fine for me.
Perhaps if people are patient, stop complaining and acting like children, Bethesda will be able to spend less time moderating this whiny pit of a forum and more time working on patches to fix the current issues.

Or keep doin' what you're doin'. Like I said. Works perfectly fine for me :)

I could play it without any mods and still have it look better than you. Stop flaming.

I love the new menu interface. Don't you?

I specifically chose Xbox over PC because Todd said it was optimized for console, so that generally means... "It's going to be better for console". I don't care about graphics, almost at all. As long as I can still get a great feeling when I play the game, the graphics could look like Daggerfall for all I care. And I'm only just saying all of this because I think it's extremely ironic that the PC version is all messed up, which further proves my point into why I decided to buy it for Xbox and not PC.

It works fine as long as it doesn′t run into its tiny memory limits, which doesn′t happen with no mods.
But I had it run wonderful and awesome-looking yesterday without a single crash and now it′s happening every 10 minutes.
That′s just horrible and needs to be fixed! What′s so whiny about this?

EDIT ninja′d again:

I like Skyrims UI. I′m the 1%.
And the PC version is not messed up at all, only this last anti-pirating patch screwed things up. And it WILL be fixed. I play on the PC because I like the feel of it AND because of the graphics, but I′ll maybe adapt my PC to my TV and my 360 Controller to the PC one day as well. Have a nice day. :foodndrink:

There should be config-commands that forces the game to put the "max ram" higher, no matter what windows says.

No PC problems, just people being paranoid about Steam (which I use for nothing but play Steam exclusive games) for no good reason. Someone must have told them that Steam is a dangerous monster that can eat your children.
I can only understand it when Pirates are complaining as it does seem to cause trouble for some of them... make of it what you want.

I'd take mods over user interface any day to be honest. Even if I had problems with it (which for some reason I don't: I don't even want to install the UI mod that was released), mods would forever make it essential (and I am not talking about fixing the game but adding unlimited amount of stuff that will allow me to play the game dozens of time due to it always staying fresh and new, no matter how many years pass).
True tough, those who don't care about mods and want to play the game less than 5 times don't really need to care about that.

@Kloaked Khajiit
I love how you turned this into a debate about PCvsConsole when it has nothing to do with that.
Except read that sarcastically.

@Epic dragon of epicness
It's whiny because it's been said a million times since this patch came out less than 24hrs ago.
Remove the mods and it ought to work, or reinstall because the mods messed something up and now it can't run with the new patch. Then sit and deal with the bugs until official patches are released OR the creation kit is released and PROPER mods can be created.

Not everything has to be done HERE NOW RIGHT THIS SECOND like everyone seems to think. Patience isn't a bad thing.

Hah you even took a picture. No but seriously, there's a ram-increasing command dwelling somewhere deep in the engine as it was for New Vegas.

I wish I knew where!
When I use that new LAA-mod from the nexus, I get that error. I heard that this mod makes the game think that it′s actually New Vegas. Is it ERRORing because I don′t have NV installed? Nah, that would be kinda moronic, would it?

UPDATE: Downloaded old TESV.exe
Using 11.11 and it starts. Successfully patched with LAA and no error message.
i guess I′ll be using the old version until the next patch is released which hopefully fixes the old one, and keep the old .exes as a reserve.
So, if you have Skyrim using much memory, or jsut want a performance boost or keep getting crashes, you should download the old file as well and replace the new one with it.

Lol PC problems.

Problems with modding, A luxery problem only PC games haver :)

At least now us console players can be the elitists who always look down on the others for playing 'an inferior system

Your console is inferior in every way, you can connect controllers to the PC just fine, you also get better performance and graphics aswell as better settings. + the modding.

and ruining the good name of Elder Scrolls'.

Was was made by the PC community and then especially the modding part if it.

So all of these people complaining about the game on PC got what was coming to them.

Lol! xD Thats a lame remark realy. The series grew on PC is pushed aside for console gaming. Because a closed and easy to use system is more customer friendly. Thankfully i am pretty sure the modding community will fix all the problems and make for some very awesome additional content! :)

First of all, I currently live in Japan, and I paid damn money to buy damn Collector`s Edition via Amazon.com.

Since yesterday, I could play skyrim with no problems, but from today, I even cannot launch Skyrim due to this F**king patch Bethesda did.

So, what the hell is going on with my nearly $170. You, bethesda, intend to say to me "just shut your mouth up and waiting for damn launching of f**king localized Japanese one", huh? I even do not need to your low level localize scriptions.

Where the hell Consumer`s right has gone, huh?

It broke my game completely, So far I've spend an hour figuring out what went wrong. And have now reverted to downloading the game again to see if that fixes things. However I doubt it.

There are no rights. That's why they make EULAs. To make sure you know that you have no rights, and in case you don't know, so they can say they told you so.

The game loads slower at the start and also when exitting. Previously they were both fast.

Also, I find that the game freezes when I try to turn around.

I hope the patch didn't break things.
