Bethseda has balls.

Post » Sat Sep 24, 2011 4:30 am

Pete said" zero" chance of a delay a few weeks ago. He also said that 11.11.11 is "Solid as ever. Skyrim is coming 11.11.11. Put in for your vacation days now."

Actually did that already. Two weeks ago I booked from the 11th through the 26th off which gives me about 17 days of pure Skyrimmage. Holy God that sounds nasty lol.

A developing company has balls because they've given a release date they know for a fact will be on the money? Ok...

I'd say they have balls if they pushed the envelope on removing in-game restrictions in politically correct redneck americuh but that's just me.

Just 1 1/2 months to go now. We're almost into October and the 11th will be 30 days from launch.

Almost there :foodndrink:

I don't think it's completely against Bethesda to release a game before it's bug-free and fully tested. =P

This ain't my first rodeo. I've heard developers say "zero chance" before. Big pat on the back for the Bethesda boys and girls if they make it. But as I said, even if they don't, I'm not one to have a meltdown over it. I'm happy enough that its coming out at all. To me the release date is not a part of some secret social contract between customer and developer.

We're at the point now where they'd have to be announcing a delay if there was going to be one. The game will be going gold within the next couple of weeks.

I'm actually thankful to be living in the USA. Other countries out there are far more conservative on gaming content (I'm looking at you Australia).

What? Game launches in 50 days. It'll be the most accurate for quite sometime? Next weekend is October already.

What would you do if they announced a delay until early spring of 2012 on 11-10-11?

I know what you mean, but like iEnV said, it would be a massive PR fail. Usually when games are delayed they haven't hyped up the date as much as this. They give a date and that's it.

@AngelPhoenix I have the 10th-14th booked off myself. Picking up my CE at the midnight launch.

Australia is more redneck than America, which gets second place. The only other country I can think of that's semi restrictive is Germany, but that's just because they've had a dark recent history.

Do you think Bethseda is just better at forecasting when they believe a game will be ready, or do other game developers lack the balls to just set a release date, and deal with the potential competition of other games being released around the same time?

Er . . . .

with the exception of RAGE and TES V Betheda is usually extremely conservative with release dates, even Brink and Hunted didn't get specific dates well in advance, so this practice covers only half of their game releases this year, and none of their past history. Also, while RAGE was given a specific release date 13 months in advance it didn't make it, it was delayed by a month over the summer. Skyrim is still on track for November 11, but it seems improper to base all of this on the release of one single game, particularly when you're using it as a basis for insulting other publishers.

Sure, it's a ballsy move already putting a solid release date.
But they'll pay for it... Anyone else hyped for 5 minute loading screens on the first day?

Not to long ago, I thought Todd or Pete said that they were actually ahead of schedule. I would go look for the interview or article where one of them said that but I dont feel like. Too lazy today.

Bethesda knows how to motive and focus their development team through the fear of a release date.

>shrug< I guess I don't know what "have to" means, since there's no contractual obligation between Bethesda and the consumer to provide status updates. While I'm not in game development, I've seen applications get delayed at the 11th hour for all kinds of unfortunate reasons.

IMPORTANT: Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to convince people the game will be delayed. I just don't treat advertised release dates as if they are the Word of God - Holy and Immutable.

I'm just operating under the assumption that Todd and Pete aren't bastards.

If they're still saying "We're on target," at this point, I'm trusting them. Of course, I trusted them when they spent Talos knows how much money on murals covering the sides of a hotel.

RAGE was delayed on June 10th, around 3 months before its original September release date. With Skyrim launching in half of that time (1 1/2 months) and with Pete still confirming the 11.11.11 date as recent as yesterday on twitter, I think it's as solid as ever.

Yes, and I pointed out that fact in my post. I don't have any doubts whether Skyrim will be released on time, I merely think that it is inappropriate for the OP to insult publishers for being conservative with release dates when this has been Bethesda's practice for the past decade. It also seems inappropriate to laud Bethesda's forecasting abilities when, of the two games given specific release dates well in advance, one had to be delayed - even if it was only by a very small amount.

I wasn't insulting those other publishers. i have the outmost respect and admiration for Blizzard, Bioware and Arenanet and love and play all their games. I'm just somewhat disappointed.

You'll be sure to post up your reaction when they announce the game's delayed right?

Ever the pessimist.

Ooof being a pessimist is unhealthy, thats why i stopped it, but actually for things like this its good because (even tho i highly doubt that skyrim will be) if a game is delayed you wont rage over it
and even if a game isn't as good as everyone thought it was, you who expected nothing of it enjoyed it thoroughly.

reason it aint win-win is because it affects your mood and personality in whole in a bad way.

so i always stick to optimisim but expecting the least i can.
