Betrayed! Zipper Interactive -- I DISOWN YOU FROM MY LIFE

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:23 am

I must rant! The end is nigh, and tonight I take up my FlameThrower and Fat Man AND HEAD TO ZIPPER INTERACTIVE HEADQUARTERS, WHERE I WILL RELEASE MY RAGE UPON THEE WITH AN INTENSITY OF A MILLION WHINY FALLOUT 3 FANS [censored]ING ABOUT NEW VEGAS!!

But seriously. When Zipper Interactive handed over the licence to /6 (Slant 6), because they were working on M.A.G, a TITANIC piece of [censored], and /6 produced Socom: Confrontation, most people were kind of pissed. Whilst it was loyal to the play-style Socom has basically always used (Asides from a rather annoying over the should camera), it just didn't feel right. Only a few months after it's release, Zipper Interactive received so much fan-mail about how badly they wanted a REAL next-gen Socom game, they put it into production.

Somehow. Somewhere. Some ass-clown thought it would be HILARIOUS to turn Socom 4, a series which is about tactical-warfare, moving slow, being sneaky, into a [censored] Call of Duty game. The very game that it's fan's loved BECAUSE it was never Call of Duty, just became Call of Duty. Now don't get me wrong. I'm fine with Call of Duty, i'v played them and i'm good at them. But you don't turn another game, whose fanbase loves it BECAUSE it's not Call of Duty, into Call of Duty!

That's like.. like.. IF BETHESDA TURNED SKYRIM INTO.. INTO... INTO..... INTO CALL OF DUTY! OR.. INTO.. uhm. A dress up game or, Simulator or something...

I r sad panda *sob*

So as I write this, the Socom franchise dies, gone forever, never will it be remade into the glory it once was.

R.I.P

Hey, I like MAG, so easy on the insults...
I haven't gotten a chance to play S4 yet, but I played Confrontation and a little bit of 2 (oh my gosh, it was so much better than Confrontation), so which one is it more like? Is it really that bad?

One of the many things i'll never be able to understand is how people can take such offense to a game taking direction they don't like  Seen it a lot lately too with DA2 being an excellent example.

Hmm, Call of Duty: Skyrim? That i'd love to see! (as a non-canonical spin-off) I'd so play with a stealthy sniper khajiit :lmao:

Or perhaps a Fallout/TES mix. My Spellsword character would look great with a Gattling Laser :P

It's a mindless, badly done Call of Duty knock off. There is very few guns, no old maps or anything. I would really suggest avoiding it unless you want a typical "respawn, run out, shoot, die, respawn" style game. You unlock weapon modifications the same as CoD, you level up the same as CoD, you do gametypes the same as CoD.

I'v been a long time fan of Socom, since the first. It's what got me, personally, into online gaming for the first time, as well as into shooters. So for me, this was a bigger disappointment than it will be for most. This is one of those things that actually made me depressed for a few days (that's REALLY a hard achievement).

And I agree, Socom 2 was easily the best. Socom 3 was awesome but the maps were to big and they had vehicles. However, I am going back to playing Confrontation now, in hopes I can still get some good old gaming out of it.

I'd say avoid Socom 4, unless you like that kind of "Duck behind cover, and fire over when someones not shooting at your cover"

And you can't compare it to either. Because it's like neither. It's more like Socom:Confrontation, if Confrontation was infinitely respawn with no round stuff to deal with. I say this because Socom 4 has NONE of the old maps, while Confrontation does.

@ Guy above me ^^

You have to expect some angry people when you completely desert your fanbase. Go to the Socom forums and see what I mean.

I grew up on SOCOM, I played the online literally all day every day at one point. I'm sorry to say though it was much like call of duty except you can see around walls...

Unless of course you're talking about the single player which makes my argument irrelevant. It did have decent single player.

Happens to every series eventually, more or less. Be prepared to endure people in favor of it accusing you of just hating change or similar nonsense.
