Better Bodies Dagoth Ur?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 6:20 pm

Yeah, that's what I think needs to be done. Some very good modeler needs to make an entirely new Dagoth Ur from scratch, as the original model is just horrendous!

Yeah, second that, maybe Chainy could do a new version of Dagoth Ur, he's done some pretty decent stuff lately! :)

No, no, not me. There are many far better modders out there. Besides, Saint Jiub's Dagoth Ur is looking pretty damn good. Just pressure him to release that instead. :P

Hey guys, can I PLEASE get some feedback for this? Everyone seems to have ignored it.
As for my texture though, the mask is pretty much done, as seen it these shots:

As you can see, I've had fun painting on the details with my tablet, it's crazy how useful that thing is, but the texture appears to be reversed on the actual mesh, probably due to lazy UVmapping, shouldn't be too hard to fix though.

The mask looks quite good, though I think it may serve well to add a reflection map to it, and a normal map could really make it pop, but I don't know if thats possible on a creature mesh....

I was thinking the same thing to be honest, though I have absolutely no experience in any kind of texture mapping other than plain-old base mapping and glowmapping, I'm really not sure how to apply normalmaps or bump maps, or let alone, reflection maps. I am however, pretty sure it is possible to add them to creatures via the MCP.

I could do those things for you. Drop me a line if you decide to go for it.

Why have you only replaced the facial part? I'd suggest finding some nice golden ornamental textures and patching together the rest as well. Looks a bit poor with those low res paintings around the face. :(

Don't need MCP for that ;)

I find myself preferring your original eyes/eyebrows for the mask to the new ones-- his eyes look painted on, which is kinda jarring compared to the realism of the lips/nose. And I agree, if you can work more detail into the "frame", or whatever you want to call it, of the mask, I think that'd be good as well.

EDIT: Also, since his chin is so freakishly huge, it might not be so bad to give the mask the impression of some facial hair like a goatee.

I would, I want too, but it's hard to find good source pics for the texture, since every aspect of his mask is so specific, and I don't even have a camera to take my own source pics right now, not that I'd even know where to look anyways.

I didn't like the eyes I had put on previously, they looked too different from the originals, and plus, I like his triangular shaped eyes. I could probably improve the edges around them more, but as I said, finding source pics is annoying.

A beard? Err, I don't think that would be appropriate, it's a MASK after all, I would probably think he'd have a beard under there though.

@Saint Jiub, I know, but I think it would make the mask look too different when compared to the original, remember, my goal is to make a mask that is as close looking to the original while being photorealistic/highres.

Was it you Saint Jiub that was working on a Dagoth Ur that had a higher polly model?

Wow, awesome work there. :shocking: Not lore correct obviously, but still awesome. I think it would fit Dagoth Ur pretty well actually if the eyes were red instead of green.

Thx guys, I can take care of the other clothing, as it ain't that much he's wearing, lol. Originally I wanted to make a new body as well, but the skeleton has some really weird proportions. Any anatomically correct body somehow looks odd on it. I know it isn't 100% lorefriendly, but honestly I didn't like the original model very much, reminds me of a perfume flask. Dagoth Ur didn't look like the main villain of the game at all, a guar did scare me more than him. When I first met him down in his cave, I was a bit disappointed of his appearance. I was like level 5, drank a bunch of sujamma and beat the crap out of him and he fled into his hideout. What a sissy! :P

I was quite partial to Westly's work http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/Wesadam/Creatures/WAR_DGTHR_SCREEN1.jpg. It's too bad the animations were never completed.

Haven't played the game for a long time, so I don't remember what was so special about Dagoth Ur's animations. Is it something that is really essential? If not, I would vote for such a bb version like Westly did.

I would consider them essential, definitely. He had the look of a powerful false god. Off-hand if I remember corrrectly, his two main animations were lifting his arm while holding his palm upward, and laughing with his hands on his hips. Also, unlike a typical race body, his hands and feet were gigantic, and his limbs were proportionally longer.

Yeah, + the one where he raises a hand and creates a some kind of flame in his hand. But it should be adjustable to the animation anyways, no matter if BB.

Dragon*Born I totally love that mask!
