Sorry if I'm missing something, but why is this obviously not lore correct?

Yeah, I'm not convinced, sorry, aside from the fact he is a god, he is wearing a mask and.. he is a god! That could be just godly power glowing in his eyes, doesn't need to be red. Not sure whether he was chimer or dunmer.. but Almalexia and Vivec don't have red eyes...

almalexi is a chimer, right? and vivec is half and half. i have no idea how he could look behind his mask. is there any lore information about his face? checked uesp, they just don't tell anything about his "race". if nerevar was a chimer (who don't have red eyes) then it would be quite logical that dagoth ur was a chimer himself. maybe his skin is just some kind of... well... altered?

Seriously, if I had to think about the above each time I want to make a 3d model, I'd rather do base jumping without parachute. :(

don't worry about that too much dragon*born. go ahead and make the model the way you think it should look. sister, he was a chimer and was warped by long exposure to the heart. originally he was the nerevars most trusted lieutenant. and wollibeebe the tentacle face is an ascended sleeper. wouldn't mind if someone came up with a unique version for the one that hits you with corpus. at least a better textured robe.

almsivi were all Chimer. Alm stayed as a chimer because it was "beautiful" compared to the red-eyed-dark-skin, and she's vain. AFAIK. Vivec took on the "half and half" look, as a way to honour... the elves? and Soltha because all mechanical, cause he was obsessed with that stuff? :P

i'm not sure what dagoth is though, seeing as AFAIK, the great house dagoth joined the dwemer under red mountain (right?). and none of them look remotely like chimer or dark elves.

I think Dagoth Ur is Chimer as well, however, he keeps ashen skin to show the native Dunmer that he is "one of them", and sort of to mock the outlanders. Although it could just be that he likes his skin gray, that's fine too.

Dagoth Ur was originally a Chimer. I'm feeling too lazy at the moment to look for the in-game document, but in one of the stories about what happened at Red Mountain, there is a passage that says that Voryn knew that the Tribunal had broken their oath and stolen the power of the Heart because "his skin had changed as well".

So....he and the Heartwights are basically very strong, immortal Dunmer. My personal theory for why they ended up with those Dwemer beards is because when they were bound to the Heart, they had to come into close contact with Kagrenac's enchantment...making them look like Kagrenac (again, this is just a theory of mine. I have nothing from the game to back this up).

But what IS a part of the lore is that Dagoth Ur started out in life as a Chimer.

Dagoth, the Sixth House, and the Tribunal were all Chimer, who became the Dunmer. After Dagoth and the Tribunal became gods, I think they could look however they wanted, and how they've chosen to appear is related to their individual personalities. The various ash ghouls, ascended sleepers, etc could be of any race, but are probably mostly Dunmer, distorted by the Blight. The heartwights (aka ash vampires?) appear more like Dagoth Ur because, IIRC, they're linked to the heart like DU or the Tribunal.

On a related note, I think the three-eye theme is just a design choice, deliberately referencing the Hindu and Buddhist concepts of the third eye (the brow chakra or "eye of knowledge"), which is opened during enlightenment. One of DU's stated goals is the use of the Blight to bestow transcendence. It's a horrific transcendence, but he a mad god after all.

Play through "Great House Dagoth" sometime for a pretty good interpretation of the lore surrounding Dagoths.

All of the WIPs in this thread look fantastic. It's too bad Westly's work hasn't been finished. DragonBorn's is definitely an interesting take as well, really like how sharp and sinister it is, though I agree with others; red fits Ur better in my opinion.

Well, Danae's been around lately, so perhaps one day we will see the animation necessary for Westly's version.

Im not sure I see the point in upgrading him anyway. The final battle is a minor footnote to the massive game that is Morrowind. I imagine that it wouldnt take a whole lot of effort to just replace the creature version with an npc though.

It's true that in the vanilla main quest you only see him for a short period of time, but many of us, myself included, use mods that give you a lot more interaction with Dagoth Ur and can even keep him around permanently if you wish. My Dagoth Ur a permanent resident in my game and my character sees him every day. ;)

The animation doesn't play nice with the NPC skeleton.

He means completely replace Dagoth Ur, removing the creature from the game and making an NPC to take his place (like Psymonsier's NPC version of Vivec). And while that is technically an option, it's far from ideal in my opinion.

Well, the same treatment given to the original NPCs and their animation could be given to the Dagoth Ur animation. Just build the body and meshes around the animation instead of trying to do it the hard way by redoing the animation on the BB meshes.
