Better Cities, Open Cities Reborn and advices that do not wo

Post » Sun Aug 14, 2011 8:05 am

Hello readers who are interested in these mods, and evt devs who might have use by this feedback...

There are two things i can not get rid of a normal way: Manualy changing load order, and changing install order.

1) When using better cities:
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16513
The Imperial City has some serious adaptation problems, where NPC' not able to use 'tcl' cann't get passed.
This remains after folowing the instructions: http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h204/Monkey999999999999999/ScreenShot123.jpg

I am not a 'very experienced user', that knows all in and outs from Wrye Bash, but very determined to use both mods.
The changes as shown at the pictures, and those i experienced myself are awesome! (Kudos and thanks to all, involved developing thes magnificent changes)
The concept of open cities reborn, especialy the strategic replacement of castles, streets and shops, i like particularly.
However, it is not possible, when only using OBMM (last version) to integrate, and so realy change the placing of certain objects.

This results in:
2) 'hanging' cells, double placed statues, or partialy overlapping scenery..
Outside of leyawin, OCR active:

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h204/Monkey999999999999999/ScreenShot125.jpg

I use:
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=33003

I downloaded and installed all the required for better cities, and the BBC for OCR-patch.

I am not using a bashed patch, as i have not yet reached the hard cap.
(now only 233 mods/plugins),
and bashed patch prevented OB to load earlier..
(probably did something wrong, which i not have solved yet, only disabled the patch)

I am not yet using patches listed here:
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32925

Thanks for any usefull reply in advance,

Regards,

That note in the streets told you what to do. Fix your load order so that the BC IC ESP(s) are loading after anything editing the Imperial City. The BC readme also tells you to place the BC IC ESP(s) near the end of your load order, please follow instructions.

For Leyawiin, you are using mod which conflict with Open Cities Reborn - correct your load order. OCR needs to load after any other mod editing the cities.

Use a Bash patch. The patch is NOT only for when you want to use more than 255 ESM/Ps, it is also needed to help large numbers of mods to work together.

If you use any of the mods listed as conflicting with Open Cities from the OC patch page, then use the patches provided for them.

Obviously, the above post is the one to heed most! ...

To which I would only add: Use BOSS (Better Oblviion Sorting Software). This will sort out your sorting issues, most of the time, and provide useful information, advice, and warnings regarding your installed mods.

The only other thing I would suggest is, whenever you are seeking help with Oblivion mod issues, post your load order, like so -> http://tescosi.com/wiki/Oblivion:How_to_Post_Your_Load_Order (use the Wrye Bash method, please!)

edit: Oops! Totally the wrong link; now fixed...

I allways use BOSS, which already places better cities near the end of my loadlist.
Before posting here, i allready manualy placed the named esp below all other BC esps, i allready wrote this in my post.
This does not solve the issue of the stair which lays over the bump just after the notice, the notice, and some strange steeps.
I will actvate the Patches for conflicting mods now, which are OOO and KOTN and see if that changes the behaviour of OCR.
I will post the results here.

Thanks for your reply.

As the bashed patch prevented to load the game, i disabled it, as wrote in my first post.
It took a lot of time, and unnessesary uninstalling and reinstalling, activating and deactivating, to find out the Bashed patch was the cullprit...
I did not use it since.... maybe i should give it a try again...

I took about a month to read all nessesary manuals and readme's, on how to use the apps, needed to use mods in oblivion.
Tried several setups, and started fresh.
I allways read the readme's, and unpack every mod before creating an OMOD blindly, or manualy copy the contents into my \Data folder
I now have no conflicts, only when i move too fast through the landscapes, i get ctd's. Just save often, and move normal lets me travel for about an hour without difficulties.
New mods i add one or two a day, use all my saves, play, and save again.
I use wrye bash to activate/inactivate esp's from MMM, or others, when BOSS or WB warns me for incompatibilities.

I very much enjoy most mods i am using, and prefer the PC over my PS3, which only supports an incomplete, and crippled version of the best game ever.. (for me, that is..)

I will now install and activate the conflict solving OSR patches, and see what happens.
Results will be posted, problem solved, or not.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.. ;-)

Every time you change your load order (add a mod, remove a mod, change the position in the order) you have to rebuild the bash patch. Failing to do so can result in the bash patch causing the game to crash on startup, as you have not informed the bash patch of the change to your game setup.

Your load order is wrong. The note you saw coupled with floating objects proves this. You cannot just run BOSS and then assume that's the end of it. As stated in the log which BOSS produces after running, there are some mods which BOSS does not know about, these are dumped at the end of your load order for you to position yourself. The fact that you still see the issues which result from a bad load order means you still have one or more ESPs loading after BC IC which need to load before BC IC.
