Better Cities

Better Cities is a compilation of the following mods, integrated together to resolve conflicts between them all, and with literally thousands of minor glitches, bugs etc. fixed. Those which were originally released in other languages are fully translated into English, including all textures with writing on them. We have also made enhancements to all of these, adding our own layer of modifications including new dialogue and quests.

Technical Features:

Spoiler

Modularity:
Each city and each IC district is offered as either a separate ESP on its own, or as part of two merged Full ESPs (one for the IC and one for the other cities). This allows users to pick and choose which cities or districts to use, so if you don't like one you can choose not to use it. Yet if you do want to use all cities, there's a single ESP for all, and if you want all IC districts, there's a single ESP for all, which helps reduce the number of active ESPs in your load order.
Customization:
An in-game menu can be used to customise some features of Better Cities, such as toggling on/off of certain special features, or objects which conflict with another mod, and choosing whether or not Better Cities allows new NPCs to wander the streets of the cities (as this can impact on FPS).
Installation:
We support four methods of installation to make it easy for users to pick the method they feel most comfortable with. Choices are Wrye Bash, TES Mod Manager (also known as Oblivion Mod Manager), Nexus Mod Manager or manual installation.

Requirements
English installation of Oblivion and Shivering Isles patched with http://static.gamesas.com/Oblivion/Oblivion_v1.2.0416English.exe. You may use Better Cities in other language installations of Oblivion, however if this causes any problems, we cannot assist as Better Cities is made for the English version of the game.

FPS Tips:
Use http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/10400
You can alter your Oblivion.ini file to change these settings. Create a backup copy of Oblivion.ini before editing.
fLODFadeOutActorMultCity: Default value is 1. Change it to lower the distance you see NPCs in the city. Suggestion 0.4 - 0.8
fLODFadeOutItemMultCity: Default value is 1. Change it to lower the distance you see items in the city. Suggestion 0.4 - 0.8
fLODFadeOutObjectMultCity: Default value is 1. Change it to lower the distance you see objects in the city. Suggestion 0.4 - 0.8
From Oblivion's in-game menu, disable reflections and distant LOD. Do not use Anti-Aliasing at all, this heavily impacts on FPS.

Bug Reports
Spoiler

Read the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/449239-oblivion-mods-faq/ pinned in this forum.
- Post a picture of the issue if possible.
- When taking a screenshot, open your console and type in

  • SDT 33 (then enter)
  • TDT (then enter and close the console)

This will bring to the screen coordinates, cell name and so on which helps to locate where you are and where your bug was found.
Open the console and type TDT again to remove all the info from your screen.

Injected Records
Spoiler

Better Cities will use a range of Injected ID into Oblivion.ESM which is from
0000FB00 to 0000FBFF
It is a range of 256 records which are free in Oblivion.ESM that we will use as toggle items to ensure compatibility with other mods without having to make patches or dependent files.
Please do not use any ID from this range in your own mods.

Better Cities v6.0.5 has been uploaded on http://www.theassimilationlab.com/forums/files/file/952-better-cities/ and http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/16513.

If you do not use TES Mod Manager to install Better Cities, then you do not need to update from v6.0.4 to v6.0.5 if you do not want to. This update is primarily to restore the OMOD install scripts which got overwritten in v6.0.4.

v6.0.5:

- Restored the BAIN install scripts which TES Mod Manager had overwritten with the Nexus Mod Manager install scripts
- Bravil: Minor tweaks to add required or remove duplicated items from four NPCs and to change one NPC's Wander package to a Travel package

I did a checksum of the files from the 6.0.5 resources package against the files from the 6.0.4 one to see if I'd need to unpack BSAs and also PyFFI again. Strangely, the only file that appears to have changed is "Better Cities .esp"

Edit: Nm, it was the version number in the ESP description.

If you do not use TES Mod Manager to install, then you can use Primary Resources v6.0.4 along with the main archive v6.0.5. As quietraccoon posted, the only edits to the resource archive are restoring the OMOD install script, and changing the version number in "Better Cities .esp" so that I can see what version people are using when they post their load order (and when they include version numbers).
