Fliggerty is working on a comprehensive kind of mod that aims to "better" combat. The thread is here somewhere. Fligg is having issues with his ISP right now, so I doubt he's getting much work done.

There's also http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2164

I have seen an Oblivion style combat mod for Morrowind that has a 100% hit system but I can't remember the name or the author's name.

On the other hand I found this page with a mod called 'combat hits' with very little information: http://www.yacoby.net/es/mw/modlists/oblivion/

Combat Hits - Eevv
Makes you always hit your opponent in combat
Requirements:

Don't get this mod, it only allows the effect by draining you and every other creature/npc's agility in the game to 0, you'll take all damage, but you'll fall down too much.

Alternatively, you get get the same effect but without all the pitfalls by opening up the console and typing:
setAttackbonus 100
setdefendbonus -100

Not 100% sure that that code is right, but it's around those lines.

Maybe it's just me. But the combat never bothered me. This is an RPG and is about CHARACTER skill NOT player skill. OB turned TES into a FPS.

Well, I think it's stupid that you can swing a longsword at someone, see the longsword go clearly through them, but still somehow miss.

Maybe. What are the other options? Hitting him and having it do no damage? Just as dumb.

So you are mad Bethesda didn't include dodging animations, as that is what this would represent - a simple dodge of the attack.

Agreed. Doing this on PC is a difficult thing, because you fall in one of two camps -> Player Skill or Character Skill. Using Player Skill is absurd considering the point of RPGs (the character involved, not so much you as a person), but Character Skill means either adding in more resources to the game (which could be rough on a users PC - remember this is an OLD game) or simply allowing for nothing to happen as they did in MW (which seems to also make people angry).

Personally, I like the Morrowind combat, and absolutely hate the method used in Oblivion.

Agreed. They got it right with MW, then messed it up with OB....

Thats really what it comes down to for me. I understand a low level shouldnt be able to hit or kill things as fast as a high level but I am right up next to the person and they should take some damage, they cant dodge everything.

The best mod so far Ive seen thats close to what Im looking for is http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7898 If I did use it Ill probably turn it off after my weapon skill would be about half way maxed.

I released a mod once that offered another option in combat, basically if your skill/agility is too low to hit your opponent you can choose to "focus" on more precise attacks at expense of making much fewer attacks as it takes time to focus each one of them. You could get up to 25 points of fortify attack for holding the attack button before releasing your strike and getting hit/running/jumping would disturb your concentration and reset the bonus. It seemed nobody really cared about the concept and I never worked on it to make it better, it might even have some bugs left.

Also, that combat hits mod was just an answer to the constant requests, never liked it myself in both concept and realization. Gotta find that ftp password and take it down. :P

Aha, now this I could see myself using for a combat mod. I remember seeing it once, back when I was having issues with MGE/MWSE working on my PC, but they work just fine on this rig so I think I will finally give it a stab (no pun intended).

As a side note, one of my personal favorites is http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6036, and a quick ES Search also revealed http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1634 that seems like it could be interesting.

I personally prefer Oblivion's combat system and if you want to compare Oblivion's combat to an FPS, you could argue that Morrowind's combat system is like an FPS too, since you have to aim or you will have no chance to even miss.

The only difference between Oblivion and Morrowind, is in how dodges work:

In Morrowind, it's a combo of PC and NPC stats and is not visually shown. This is irritating.
In Oblivion, it is purely based on NPC skill and AI. Which I believe is MUCH more realistic.

While there is more player skill involved in Oblivion because NPCs will move around more, without good weapon skills those blows will only be glancing! That makes more sense to me. Otherwise, they both might as well be turn-based combat and they aren't.

I'm happy with the Morrowind combat system with these mods:

It's really a combonation of using Focused Attacks with Trance mode from Combat Enhanced and having decent weapon skill, to make combat less "frustrating" and more tactical. I love taking my time in fights now, executing just the right set of combos to maximum effect.

I would recommend, increasing Difficulty slider to atleast 70 and increasing Health, Strength and Magicka of your opponents by atleast double. Strength I usually increase by 4 or 5. Otherwise once you get all the combos down and can daisy chain them, time your blocks and focus your attacks, you can really win most even level fights too easily, it's far more balanced by just giving NPCs a huge bonus to damage and more health. That way if you do start getting pumelled, it will hurt.
