Better Conversations... Hopefully?

Post » Sun Jul 10, 2011 2:17 pm

I just picked this up a a few minutes ago in one compilation of some E3 gameplay.

Around 1:30 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9MBqdME14I

You can distinctly hear the bandits talking about a dark elf that went on ahead in the cave. They called him by name, and I believe that it was the same Dark Elf that we saw later at E3.

Do you think this could mean better conversations? Or if this was just important enough of a quest to have dialog in the dungeon for this quest?

Me too... No more "How are things with you?", "Glutius Maximus saw a mudcrab the other day, nasty creatures...". Or, the ever famous Sumerset Isles discussion....

That convo was specific for the quest. Odds are there could be a few more moments like what happened when we brought Martin to Cloud Ruler Temple. As for every day walking down the street conversations, I suspect it will be more like FO3. People could walk past each other without having to diss the mole rats every five seconds. Everyone seemed to have more of a purpose, cept for the people who were ment to wander around.

Anyway, I'm sure there will be an improvement. But I also thing the random conversations will be fewer and far between. People will have jobs and stuff, so outside of talking to a coworker, and then just making noise at the local tavern, I suspect people will just walk right past one another.

I hope they still have a bit of the chatting, though. It's always fun to listen to a couple of Marauders exchange information on the goings-on of House Redoran before I put arrows in their throats.

A great highlight is when I heard a Breton talking with an Orc in Oblivion. The Orc basically called him a weakling and told him to get lost, to which the Breton replied, "Well if you feel that way, then fine."

They then continued with an amicable discussion of how they felt about goblins and mudcrabs.

I hear Daedra worship is becoming increasingly prevalent in the Summerset Isles.

It always went "Have you heard any news from the other provinces?", "I hear Somerset Isles is becoming an increasingly more dangerous place." Or something along those lines... I can't enter a city without hearing it at least once...

The Altmer have powerful wizards, it could become a dangerous situation.

Here is a transcript of the conversation:

Female Bandit: We're just supposed to sit here while Arvel runs off with that Golden Claw?

Male Bandit: If that Dark Elf wants to go on ahead, let him. It's better than us risking our necks.

Female Bandit: What if Arvel doesn't come back?

[Todd kills them both with sneak bow attacks; breathing sound effect as he draws the bow]

They say a syndicate of wizards have led a boycott of Imperial goods in the land of the Altmer.

I recall a similar name-specific demo from the Oblivion e3 demo. I wouldn't get your hopes up. Of course they have specific conversations like this for quest related stuff.

In the leaked audio, which I won't link to, you can hear an old woman talking to her son.

Woman: A dragon! I saw a dragon! :cryvaultboy:

Son: What? What is it now, mother? <_<

Woman: It was as big as the mountain of *some name*. It flew right over the barrow.

Son: Dragons now? Please, mother! There are people around. :stare: Everyone in town will think you're crazy. I've got better things to do than to listen to more of your fantasies.

The leak has been taken down anyway Luke; looks like Bethesda flexed its mighty arms and got their lawyers to handle it.

But yeah, I totally saw a mudcrab the other day, and it was super gross. Ugh, they're super disgusting.

I heard that when you murder someone the Dark Brotherhood comes to you in your sleep, it's how they recruit new members.

I was going to bring this up.
It really made me optimistic about the conversations.

I have a feeling it's just dialogue for the quest. Hopefully other, general conversations will be better than Oblivion's though.

Yes, it's too specific to be anything but quest dialogue. The fact that random bandits have well-reasoned things to say that are quest relevant and that specific make me just as excited though! Attention to detail is my favorite thing.
