A better crime system.

I think that it should be like GTA 4 but with its own twist, in that you can escape guards and escape imprisonment as a whole. It should be hard, but because of the rather absurd crime system in Oblivion I found myself not wanting to push buttons and try new stuff in the knowing that I would have to either pay a ton of money or lose skill points in jail. The alternative is that being in jail shouldn't make you lose skill points unless you are there for a long time. Also I think we've talked about this a million times but I'll just throw it out again: guards shouldn't get worked up about accidentally picking up a cabbage.

And another thing is that if you are wanted, you should be wanted in the respective region/city in which you committed the crime. And murders in the wilderness shouldn't magically alert guards in every city in the land. I think this will allow players to be more free to push various buttons and try out new stuff. It would also add a whole new epic thing to the game: escaping and hiding from guards.

What do you think? Yay or nay?

Only real crime news is that there will be different types of jails.

I would actually like it if you could lose your bounty by avoiding cities for a while. That would be cool.

I'd rather not have Fable's "Forgiveness" system. However, what I did like about Fable's crime system was the "Apologize" option... If you are a person in good enough standing, the guards should be more lenient on you, such as waiving fines for crimes that result in minimal damage. A shame Fable had the guards forgive everything, including mass murder. That would be stupidly bad.

The worst part about Oblivion was how it interrupted everything... Paying small fines should have been more painless. Instead of hauling you to the castle for a crime... especially one committed and apprehended in the wilderness! it should have just been "You broke the law. Pay the fine, and we'll let you be on your way" for small things, like non-lethal assault and theft (With only the stolen item in question removed, not everything possession of dubious ownership)

Guards (and merchants for that matter) should not be able to tell the difference between stolen and regular goods.

Agreed, that's an unforgiving system that really just forces you to reload as to not lose all your stuff - making it pretty redundant.

Actually, I think they should for things like gems, weapons, armor, expensive dinnerware, etc... This is before mass-production of anything except books and newspapers, so it would be understandable for them to be able to identify those things based on the unique "signature" of the creator, or stolen item report.
