[RELz] Better Dialogue Font

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:54 pm

It would be pretty cool if the journal interacted with lighting. You could make it use the same lighting as the player's face, so you would have to hold a torch to read in a pitch black dungeon. That would be especially cool with torches that flicker or alternatively colored lanterns.

Objection! That is not cool in the dark mod and would not be cool here.

I don't know which mod you are referring too, but I assure you that I am correct in thinking this optional functionality would be "cool". Most of the time you are somewhere where there is enough light to see without a personal light emitting device. However, I'm sure it would be a simple matter, if you got that all working (or rather if Hnchamd did), to set an option in the MCP that would prevent the ambient light level on the journal screen from falling below a certain level instead of being solely controlled by the surrounding environment. But, I must say that that would defeat the entire purpose of the coolness, which is what it would be. Ultimate coolness.

Note: In favor of eliminating any unneeded confusion, I am jokingly pretending to be a pompous jerk here. Please don't take my tone too seriously. :goodjob:

I was playing last nite and the difference with this text over the vanilla one is astounding, I used to have to squint to read some texts, and now they look 200% better, now if something could be done about the font size in regards to resoultions...

Agreed, a massive improvement in clarity, the only problem with increasing the font size is that after a couple of points the interface starts to break, maybe one day the code patch will deal with it, fingers crossed :)

Making resolution independent text is a pretty hard problem in graphical interfaces:
1) you have to measure your font accurately (this - if it is not monospaced or if it has ligatures, is a very complicated algorithm)
2) every interface part that expects a text must be prepared to be multiline
3) before inserting a text and on most size changes of the interface parts that text must pass through the part than implements 1) to be used in a part that returns the locations of the word breaks and they must be inserted.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

It would be a bit strange if there was a russian version image and no download for it, where is your translated one hosted?

It's a bitmap font, I presume it's a remix of another font. The closest ttf font is to this is Goudy Medieval, but there are a lot of variations.

It wasn't bad ... just not designed properly for small text readability. I couldn't make this without the original being decent quality.

Linked it in the description, you can post a screenshot of your version.

I still say that, although it looks much better, the small size makes it very difficult to read on large resolution screens. An option for a larger size would be appreciated... although I'm not sure if it's possible to break it down according to *where* the larger size would be warranted (dialogue only, really).

Also... ugh, when did TES Nexus start using video ads? Abhorrent. I'ma gonna update my mod list sometime next week, and I guess I'll mirror it until Hrnch uploads it to Fliggerty's site (which I'm surprised he hasn't done already).

not just video adds....video adds that can't be skipped, that sputter for 15 seconds longer than they are supposedly going to run, etc etc.

Just one more reason Nexus isn't the "go-to" place IMHO

Luckily for me the videos always fail to load for some reason and it brings me to the download right away.

You imply that I was ever happy with TES Nexus to begin with.

TES Nexus is like that fat, smelly girl who wants to sleep with you and you don't tell to go away so you'll have a backup just in case the attractive girl doesn't want to sleep with you. So, after years of being alone, you finally give in one night and do it. But even then, afterward, you feel dirty and take a shower. But no matter how much you scrub, the feeling of shame just will not go away.
