[RELz] Better Dialogue Font

Better Dialogue Font

This is a high resolution replacer for the Magic Cards font, used in most of the UI - menus, dialogue and the journal. It should provide improved clarity without changing the font size. Replaces fonts for English/French/German/Italian/Spanish and Polish editions.

The font is derived from the original version specific to Morrowind, changed to be slightly heavier and blacker, as well as being double resolution. Letter kerning (letter pair separation) is improved for the most noticeable misaligned letters - BQRTVchkmnw. Fixes alignment of all accented characters and ess-set for European versions. Fixes ó and ? in Polish version when used with MCP 2.0.

You may also benefit from the UI quality fix in the latest MCP beta, as Morrowind can introduce blurring to UI text and icon elements.

I like the idea for this, but I almost feel that the old version blends into the pages better, more handwritten, as opposed to the high-res font looking very typed IMO. But I am all for high-res. I think I do like the change for the dialogue though.

I'd have to test it ingame myself to form a complete opinion however. Thanks for the release Hrnchamd!

Yes. Especially you can easily read the letters "e" and "c" now. It was a pain with the old, blurred fonts.

It's like a watery ink that varies in thickness with writing pressure and paper absorption. Fwiw, I feel the same way about the journal but it shares the same font. It would take a better artist than I to make a lighter but readable font.

Fantastic, I love you.

I do agree on the journal text, but could the journal colours be lightened to artificially give the impression of handwritten text?
Or is that also tied in to other stuff?

Wow, fantastic, thanks?? It is possible to add a transparency to the typo's layer and then apply this layer as a multiply or over exposition fusion on top of the scroll one? this will bring the sensation of a real ink.

I always thought the faded look had a certain charm to it('pecially in journals), but thanks for this nonetheless.

Cool antique font. I will use it for sure. And in my hi-res mod.

Now I would like you make in MCP a fix to make the topic list more wide. When the dialog window is sizing, the dialogue part is expanded but not the topic list. As you can see in the pic you posted, some large topics occupy two rows. It's painful to scrolldown/up when the NPC has a lot of topics and searching for one in particular.

The problem is that the default size is too small to be easily readable if you're using a large resolution (1920x1200 here, for example). I like the Magic Cards font, but it looks terrible if you enlarge it, thus forcing us into Verdana territory if you don't want to squint a lot.

Of all the things the FontColor section in the ini lets you change, journal default text colour isn't one of them. I'll be making a patch for it in MCP. Transparency seems to be set for the whole text system so that could be a bit more difficult.

Is it possible somehow to make a font for russian version of the game?

Maybe, it depends on what the problems with the source font are. Is it the same Magic Cards style font but with Cyrillic characters?

Yes, the same Magic Cards but with Cyrillic characters. I can send you original font from russian version, if you want.

Email me. Are there are any special character separation/spacing rules for Cyrillic?
