[Rel] Better Gems for Morrowind

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 8:35 pm

This mod was in the works since 2009 and now I am able to release it because now I have better understanding of texturing to some extent. Now without further adue, I present to you Better Gems for Morrowind.

This plug-in replaces the vanilla gems in MW with new HD gem meshes, textures and icons to make the gems look better and more realistic.

Three of the four gems are reflection mapped to enhance each gem's own unique faceting.

This mod should not conflict with any other mods. If it happens to, the you can contact me at silver_fox_rival@hotmail.com

Already using them, and you rock! For those that follow the Keening WIP thread here, silver_fox_rival has also done some amazing gemstone work for Keening.

But Better Gems? Trust me, you want this.

Chrome, IE, FIrefox, Safari for WIndows, and Opera confirmed.
Edit: Apparently the issue occurs from an update of Firefox. I haven't updated.

Okay, today it worked. Now I have the problem that these are really bad floaters - especially the emeralds?!

Yes, if you open up Nifscope and copy these into the vanilla gems, you can see the problem. Shouldn't be too hard to fix though - just transform to align the meshes and then delete the vanilla mesh. I can try and give it a go tonight, unless someone else does it first.

I'm wondering why this isn't solved via esp - I thought that's the reason there actually is a esp (like Koranas Better looking liquors). When these are corrected what prevents the use as pluginless??

Probably nothing, except possibly some orientation issues - the vanilla emerald isn't pointed on the bottom. Was busy last night, but I'll try to look tonight.

Oh those are pretty, and certainly make the gems look so much better.

Hey silver_fox_rival, take a look at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/59330294/Better%20Gems%20Pluginless.7z. I can't see any reason that it shouldn't work as a pluginless replacer. Love the meshes/textures, but I think the icons could be altered a little - slightly larger perhaps, more vanilla style, to match other icons.

I could update the mod with what you did and make new icons for them. Thx for your help in fixing my mod. I really appreciate it. :)

Edit: I fixed the Ruby and Emerald icons because I did realize that they were on the small side. The Diamond and Pearl are still too small? Did you want me to send you the new icons for play testing them before I update my mod?

Sure, if you want me to have a look, I'd love to lend a hand. And no, the diamond and pearl were a good size I believe, I should have been more specific.

Yes, I think the icons in Ultimate Icon Replacer would work very well. I think they represent your gems better than icons actually made with your gems. *chuckle* Tried to make a couple myself, and all the black that shows up in Nifscope produces icons that don't do the in game gems justice.
