Better Graphics or No loading screens for TES6 ?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 7:21 am

So, I was playing Skyrim last night (like always do) and was getting pretty annoyed by the loading screens each time I entered a store. I was thinking about how cool it would be if there wasn't any loading screens, if every door opened instantly, and I was wondering if it was possible. Obviously, with the current generation of consoles, it's impossible to maintain the quality of the graphics and removing the loading screens at the same time. But, since the next TES game will probably not come out until the next generation of consoles is released, maybe it will be possible! But, I am thinking that if they CAN remove the loading screens, the would probably not be able to improve the graphics at the same time.

So basically, my question is: When the next generation of console comes out, would you prefer TES 6 to be at the graphical level of Skyrim, but with no loading screens at all, or keep the loading screens and improve the graphics?

PS: I don't want this topic to became a console/pc war, so please think before you post. Thanks.

PSS: I imagined a loading screen-free TES as if every single door was like some of the doors in the dungeons, that you can open, see whats inside, walk in, close it behind you, etc.

This actually belongs in the TES general discussion but...

as the consules and PC hardware getting better so do the graphics and loading screen times.

Kind of a silly question....most changes could win vs graphics, especially on the forums now that its been almost a month so the Crysis people are mostly gone....but not this one.

the longest loading screen is when im first loading up. after that they are pretty much instant.

im really hopin that they put SSDs in the next gen of consoles. along with at least 10 times the ram......they always skimp on ram and it bites them in the ass not long afterward.

Maybe he's playing on PC.

The screen just goes black for a second, and there you go... that's the loading

Better graphics. I play on PC and have a solid state drive, so loading screens are practically nonexistent for me anyway.

I just delete the Bethesda logo movie and use the 4GB loader to bypass the launcher, so the start-up screen takes about two seconds to load between clicking the desktop icon and clicking CONTINUE.

Unfortunately, for the consoles, it takes about 10-15 seconds, so it's pretty annoying, especially when you just exit a shop and then you remember that you forgot something.

Better graphics.

I pretend that the loading screen is the time it takes for me to actually open the door, as in real life, I don't instantaneously go into a house upon turning the door knob.

The thing that I want for TES 6 is hardcoe Mode!
Pleaseeeeee Bethesda!!!

hardcoe mode, with the possibility of doing quests without the quest marker. :)

It'd be like this:

1) Receive a quest
2) Ask the NPC his daily routine, so you'll know where he is going to be...
3) Have information about the location of a cave...
4) Eat/Sleep, get ready
5) Go there
6) Then complete the quest :D

There are quests like this one in Skyrim... It's not necessary to do number 4 though, but you don't receive quest markers

I imagined a loading-free TES like if every door opened like the ones in the dungeons, they just open (as if you manually opened it) and then you can just go trough, and close it behind you.

Making the gameworld significantly larger should take priority during the next generation, in my opinion. I can live with average graphics and loading screens... but the map needs to be doubled in size, and cities should start to actually feel like cities instead of small hamlets.

I voted no loading screens.

Those of us with a good enough PC will still be able to scale the graphics. :celebration:

There will be much improved graphics, regardless. I would definitely sacrifice eye-popping omg nerdgasm graphics for no loading times, though. It would be pretty cool to just be able to walk into every building/ dungeon in real time. It would add to the realism a whole bunch.

Just need more RAM and a faster hard drive. :tes:

Loading screens will occur, the amount however is most likely going to change. They could have the game constantly render but that may be troublesome for specific encounters could be like Gothic 1-3 where there are no loading screens in the world going into dungeons but again mobs stayed at their post and did not travel and move much other then their scripted patch so I am going to assume separate dungeons will stay. Open Cities will be a possibility though has it has been proven to work relatively good in previous games with mods.

Graphics will be overhauled depending on what exactly is in the next gen consoles I do not expect it to be as good as the Nvidea 500 series though (specifically 580/590). PS4 may go back to DX and not Open GL which is totally outdone by DX11. And depends how much RAM the platforms have 8GB is what Crytek has asked for which will ensure it to be a 64 bit platform whether or not that will be in the platform is unknown I doubt it will be lower then 4GB though.

Open cities would be the best Imo, just because of the pain that is going through several loadings screens just to get some items.

How about both? There is no reason next-gen can't do both.

Even though that would be insanely cool, we
Or maybe they could do it in chunks, kinda like Minecraft, and when you enter another area of the map, it get generated. I guess there would still be a loading screen for the fast travel, but it kind of makes sense...

A mod for Oblivion could do it.

The last 4 BGS games are not big even compared to their own titles. And Size doesn't really have any effect on general game play and even graphics like it use to due to today's technology. The way it works in Minecraft is the most likely way it would work if it was open world but they could make it like Arma and render the entire world at once but again this may cause major issues with scripted events.

That's awesome, I think that should be in TES 6. No more anticlimactic loading screens when you enter a city.
