Looks interesting. However, I notice in the one screenshot for the prompt to use it, it says

"Nah, if i'm listening to a song, I'll keep listing to it."

It should be "Nah, if I'm listening to a song, I'll keep listening to it."

In case you want to fix that.

In this mod, the lute is a weapon that *player* can wield (so it is in all lute mods I've seen). I wonder, is it possible to make the lute a shield so that NPC bards could use the lute and be seen wielding it without going into fight mode.

What I want to know is how can I play this lute without also summoning a dremora or a shield? Can't I just play these songs and not cast a spell?

If I do have to cast a spell, can I just make a bogus spell in the Construction Set that doesn't do anything but makes the computer think it's casting a spell?

Thanks for pointing out the spelling, Caerendevwin. I will make sure to get on that as soon as possible. To Kir, making the lute a shield would be hard, if not impossible. It would not have the pose that the other lute has, and would result as one hand holding the lute and the other end of the lute floating, if you understand. So, I don't think that would be possible, but I could be wrong. To Tes96, taking out the spells is completely possible. That was what I had in the first place, but Inari, maker of Rahj, came in and put in magic effects, and a host of other essential things. I will probably go in, wipe the magic effects, and release it as a separate download, as other people had wanted no magic too. Thanks for pointing this stuff out.

Hi Xargoth, are you still going to update this mod so that there is a no-magic version?

Awesome! It's like Bard's Tale meets Morrowind.

Definitely a keeper :)

Sorry for the late reply. Yes I am still working on a non-magic version and will try to release it within the next week or two. Sorry for the lapse of time, I have just had a little problem with the scripting, but have overcome the problem and am working on it again. :)

Alright!!!! It's here! I finally banned the virus, (AV Security center is it's name~~~ GRRR.) Anyhow, it broke my morrowind copy, but the tescs still worked, so, I made it! It has not been tested, I will leave that to you at the moment, but, this adds a Lute in the tavern in Pelagiad, a lute that plays for solid gold. It's on my site http://xargothmods.webs.com or on Planet elder scrolls. Have fun, and please tell me what you think of it, and any bugs you may find. Enjoy!

There are still magical effects and only the yellowish lute by the south gate in Caldera works. The other lute near the northwest gate doesn't do anything except give me a message saying to wait while I tune my lute, even though I waited for an hour using the wait feature.
And when I use that yellowish lute, it'll play the songs but it also either makes me invisible or summons a dark seducer or whatever the purplish lady demons are called; can't think right now as it's past 1am.
And where at is this note/letter?
And which esp do we download? Better lutes.7z or better_lutes.zip?

Better lutes.7z is the download that includes a gold gaining lute
this adds a Lute in the tavern in Pelagiad,
use the one in Pelagiad's tavern, Halfway tavern is its name, I think....

Okay, I found it. I like how it doesn't do magic but I don't like the soldier thing where it says a soldier gives you 100 gold. That's implying that no matter where I go, there's a soldier right next to me.

Well.... nothing really. Actually, I was thinking that since you have 10 tracks, when you equip the lute, the message box could say which song would you like to play, and then list all 10 tracks (Do they have song titles?)

I wonder if you could integrate this with Entertainers Expanded. Like "perform a piece on your lute" and if you don't have one, well then you can't perform. If you have it equipped, then you could pick a song to play and based off of a percentage chance of 10%, since there's 10 songs, the reaction would be different and you might get a few gold pieces, maybe 10 gold pieces, or nothing, or food thrown at you. What do you think?

It could also work with NPCs, but you'd have to have custom NPCs with specific dialogue options for this. At least, that's what I'm guessing.

+1 to Tes96 ideas, I'm also using this mod and love it, but sometimes the magical effects are a bit annoying, because they are random. A possible solution to this, more than making two mods, it's making different kind of lutes, magical, and non magical, this is, musical. They could be named as this, "magical lute" and "musical lute". Magicals should have tunes attached to magical effects, and it would be nice to choose which effect do you want via pop up menu with buttons for eg.

Musicals should have a menu that allows you to choose from track one to ten : )
If the buttons have numbers and not names of songs, that will allow people to customize the tracks :)

True. Of course I'd just go into the script and change what it says for my own game any ways. So I guess Tracks 1 - 10 would suffice.
I was thinking that maybe he's using magic spells when a song plays because he needs to trigger something so that the computer knows to perform it's next command. If that's the case, I would just use a dummy spell that does nothing.

Ok, I have the Song Choosing version Almost done!!! Thanks mostly to Jac, who showed me how to do about all of it, =P all that I have left to do is add in some kind of random gold-gaining system for each song, because now that you can pick a song, it wouldn't be right to let you have a never ending source of coin, now, would it. =P So yeah, almost done. :)
