[Relz]Better Picks'n'Probes

Post » Sat Aug 14, 2010 10:58 am

This modification is a mesh and texture replacer for lockpicks and probes. You may use it as esp-free replacer but you can also use the plugin data file which offers different meshes for the apprentice and the bent probe.

This mod does three things:

-It corrects the meshes of the picks and probes so that they are sitting correctly in your hand, the upper parts are not showing any longer in the wrong direction AND the models are displayed correctly on surfaces. (Mesh Fix by £exa)
-It contains some different meshes offering wider variety to picks and probes (models originating by HG-12 from Better Items 2.01 also include £exa's alignment fix)
-The models are retextured with textures made for this mod (Sister)

If you don't want the retex at all and just long for the corrected meshes, choose the "pure"-folder which contains meshes only. Those use the default textures thus being texture replacer friendly. You may use the esp for the pure version as well. The new mesh for the bent probe will then use the default textures for the apprentice's probe.

Very nice, I like how they are more distinct from each other now. A new must have!

This sounds great, but I was asking myself if pricks'n pobes requires me to start a new game. My character is already at level 11 and I wouldn't want to start allover again. :(

Pricks'n pobes? Sounds more like a case of Daedric abduction than a lockpicking mod :)

it is a replacer, so you will have all the benefits immedately. i'm not sure about the bent probe though but fixing your save with wrye mash should be the best :) (the only thing that can happen is that you have a doubling or just no effect, then just turn off the esp, the replacer will work anyway)

Its small mods like this that surprise me. I can't believe this hasn't been done before - the mesh positioning fixes. Nice work. :goodjob:

This looks really good, I024x1024 textures might be overkill though unless you are using Close Inspection :)

The bent probe (probe_bent) still looks backwards; it points downward instead of upward like all the other probes.

BTW I assume that "Lexa's Picks 'n Probes Fix 1.00" is superseded by this mod.

Well...its a bent probe, innit?
It's all those little things that count - the attention to detail and beauty add to the game immensely.
Ein dikees Dankesch?n auch von mir: this is a must have. As simple as that.

The probe_bent item is listed here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Thieves_Tools

If your probe_bent looks correct, then I must be having a personal problem

i don't have it. it should work with the esp nevertheless since it gives the bent probe a different mesh.

here is my path, my flders of the disc. no probe_bent

http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae224/mwscreen/pfad.png

you also could rename the file from "probe_apprentice_02.nif" to "bent_probe.nif"

there is no "probe_bent" in vanilla morrowind. i even checked the data files on the disc (goty). i don't know, where you found this mesh. the vanilla "Bent probe" is the mesh "probe_apprentice_02" - which is working the way it should
In fact there is a probe_bent but this is the Editor ID of the bent probe - not a mesh file name.

Thus if the bent probe shows strange behaviour (which it should not as the plugin changes its base mesh and this one works) I believe there is a second replacer involved here that changes the bent_probe as well. Find the troublesome replacer and decide.

yeah just found out the same, checking both my english and my german cs.

both versions (german and english) have the id probe_bent and both are using the probe_apprentice_01 - with our mod the id probe_bent will use another mesh.

there are not many replacers for the picks and probes and even lesser with an esp, it should be easy to find.

Guys, I think it's SirLuthors-Tools.esp that's changing my models. Sorry :(

I was going to say, I've downloaded and installed and the new probes and picks are gorgeous. They obviously work great in my game - and they are finally held properly. Thank you so much for this mod.
