[RELz] Better Skulls

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:43 pm

Excellent mod, just one minor thing though the texture paths in the misc_skull_skaal1.nif for both jaw and skull are set up wrong.

the path currently reads c:\users\############\documents\better skulls\data files\textures\tx_skeleton_skull_skaal.dds

it should work fine if its just tx_skeleton_skull_skaal.dds

Aside from that :goodjob:

Odd. And forty people have downloaded it, so it must be working.

The download counter increments every time someone goes to the download page, not when someone actually downloads the file. So even if someone tries to download the file and gets an error, the download counter goes up.

Curses. Though I had reset everything to use the right path. I'll fix that as soon as possible.

Thanks nONatee..

Is anyone else completely unable to download anything from PES? I uploaded the fixed version, having finally noticed the rather obvious "update" button. *chuckle* Trying to test it though, or trying to download anything else, the page I end up at completely lacks the usual buttons. Odd.

It isn't working for me, either. Try contacting APY about it, maybe he/she knows what to do?

The standard install is a pluginless mesh replacer plus a plugin to replace unique skulls. The "optional" files (which I recommend) replace the meshes and have some additional textures. Hmmm... perhaps I should change the readme. Goes to check...

As for the situation on PES, http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1062436 that is having problems. Apparently all PES-related files are on walk-about. I sent an email to APY, but I would imagine the staff at PES must know about this issue already.

Thanks for uploading to TESNexus, I've downloaded it. :)

Well, I was able to download this mod; Yet I seem to be having a problem. The new skull meshes don't seem to be appearing in-game. The Icons work, but the skulls are still the same as they are in vanilla.
I think that one of Darknut's Texture replacers could be causing this, as the skulls look like his work, but wouldn't these new meshes overwrite his? (If it's pluginless?)

These are unbelivable. I find small mods like these alter the game so much. Great work

That's odd. It isn't Darknut's texture replacers - I have those installed, and they only affect the vanilla meshes. Try installing again, and be sure to say "copy and replace" when prompted. Of course, you may have already tried that, in which case I have no idea. Anyone?

I've downloaded it again, but no changes :( Thankfully, the unique Skulls work (Except for the Servant's skulls) and look great as well!

Strange. Please check if all files are installed right in place.

Here's a detailed list of all files included:
Meshes.../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/f/furn_bone_skull_01.nif	//skull - ambient [static].../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/f/furn_bone_stake00.nif //impaled skull [static].../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/f/furn_burial00.nif //box with skull [static].../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/f/furn_burial10.nif //skull totem 1 [static].../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/f/furn_burial20.nif //skull totem 2 [static].../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/i/in_om_skullpile.nif //well, a pile of skulls [static].../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/l/light_spear_skull00.nif //impaled skull with a candle on top [light].../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/m/misc_skull00.nif //skull [misc item].../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/m/misc_skull10.nif //servant's skull [misc item]Unique (quest item) skulls [added by the esp file].../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/non/misc_skull00_shishi.nif //skull of a Breton.../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/non/misc_skull_andrano.nif //skull of Llevule Andrano.../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/non/misc_skull_oddfrid.nif //skull of Oddfrid White-Lip.../Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/non/misc_skull_skaal1.nif //skull of a Skaal WarriorAll textures:.../Morrowind/Data Files/Textures/TX_Skeleton_jaw_andrano.ddsTX_Skeleton_jaw_furn.ddsTX_Skeleton_jaw_oddfrid.ddsTX_Skeleton_jaw_shishi.ddsTX_Skeleton_jaw_skaal.ddsTX_Skeleton_skull_andrano.ddsTX_Skeleton_skull_furn.ddsTX_Skeleton_skull_oddfrid.ddsTX_Skeleton_skull_oddfrid_g.ddsTX_Skeleton_skull_shishi.ddsTX_Skeleton_skull_shishi_g.ddsTX_Skeleton_skull_skaal.dds[optional]non_bloody_bandage.ddsTX_Skeleton_skull_servant.ddsTX_Skeleton_skull_servant_blueish.ddsIcons.../Morrowind/Data Files/m/misc_skull00.dds.../Morrowind/Data Files/m/misc_skull10.dds.../Morrowind/Data Files/non/icon_skull_andrano.dds.../Morrowind/Data Files/non/icon_skull_oddfrid.dds.../Morrowind/Data Files/non/icon_skull_skaal.dds

Check especially if the meshes are in the right location.

If everything should be fine (very unlikely) check if you run a mod that in any way affects the vanilla skulls (alters the vanilla mesh path)...
...or at least post your mod list.

Good luck,
nONatee..

I'm confused. As far as I can see, the meshes in the main Data Files folder (as opposed to the Optional folder) still use vanilla textures (tx_skeleton_skull.dds and tx_skeleton_jaw.dds), which means Darknut's texture replacer does indeed affect them. What I've done is to make copies of the new textures (tx_skeleton_skull_furn.dds and tx_skeleton_jaw_furn.dds), and rename the copies so that they replace the vanilla textures - that way they show up on all the meshes.

Ah, yes. The meshes in the main data files folder are mesh replacers only, referring to the skeleton skull texture, whichever one you happen to use (I use Connary's). If you use a skeleton retexture by Darknut, they will use those textures, which is completely different from the meshes not showing up in game. I think this makes sense, since why would skulls lying around look different than the skulls of skeleton creatures? The unique skulls, and many (probably all, in the next version) of the meshes in the optional folder, have their own textures.

Of course! I use DN Creature Textures, so that must be causing the problems. Is there any way I could resolve this without messing up DN's replacer?

If you have NifSkope, just open up the meshes and edit them to use the new textures (tx_skeleton_skull_furn.dds and tx_skeleton_jaw_furn.dds) instead of the vanilla ones.

Just wanted to say Thanks for these.
I came across some of the unique quest skulls a few days ago and it was great to see them.
These are a permanent addition. :foodndrink:

Thanks. I have been meaning to put up a new version to complete the textures for the optional version.

And... I finally did. Version 1.2 is up on PES, completing the "optional" (recommended) folder with a general skull texture for all of the meshes that were still referring to the skeleton creature skull texture.

So, what next? Time to buckle down and see about fixing the skull positioning I suppose. *chuckle* Beyond that, I was thinking of further increasing skull diversity, by potentially replacing generic skulls in say, Sixth House bases with alternate versions. Any thoughts?

@tronvillain
You might want to update the OP with the PES link so others won't have to hunt thru the thread for it. ;)

Excellent compilation, btw!
