[Help] - Better HD texture mods than bethesda's HD pack?

Post » Sat Feb 08, 2014 4:06 pm

Hello my friends,

2 days ago i purchased R9 280x Direct CU2 TOP Grapihcs card that has 3GB of VRAM and is pretty fast. So i have finally decided to take out sometime and finally end this great game with all the best mods out there. Earlier i had 2 5870s in crossfire and they ran the game well with some optimization here and there but it was not to the maximum and i never really got the opportunity to play this game for more than a few hours and every time i tried i was forced to concentrate on my RL.

Now i'm free and i have decided to play this game with HD texture packs. And i have heard that there are better HD texture packs than the one made by bethesda. It's around 3GB and i have a rather slow internet connection so i rather not download something if something better exists over nexus or steam workshop.

I found this quite famous mod:
Skyrim HD - 2K Textures
[Link removed]<--Says i can't post links? eh?

Although i think it's quite less in size, says around 1.25 GB while the bethesda one is over 3GB. I'm confused here guys and i need some help regarding this.

Please help.

Look up Texture Pack Combiner on Nexus, or check out the S.T.E.P. forum.

There is a size difference between the two because 2k Textures does not retex everything, just a lot of things. You also need to keep in mind that bigger does not mean better. Many of the Bethesda ones are just upscales, as such they are full of artifacts and do not look nearly as good as a new from scratch texture. Many of the texture packs do not actually up size, they just clean them up and make them look more "as intended", like a lot of wood.

THANKS A LOT BRO! :D Yes i have started reading the TPC link over nexus and i like what i read. Absolutely great stuff, for a lazy guy like me hehe.
And i agree with you, size ≠ quality. 2K guy even shows a very good comparison of wooden floor and his textures look amazing in comparison to bethesda's hd pack.

If you don't mind i have more questions related to mods, can i ask in this thread or would i have to create another one?

Nothing wrong with Skyrim HD, but Skyrim Realistic Overhaul is better IMO. You'll have to Google for it as it isn't available on Nexus or Steam, though.

HOLY COW! :shocking: That mod is mind blowing bruv. I see that TPC also mentions this mod and it says it was removed from nexus as the author was banned. Poor lad, not sure what he did to deserve that. :(

I see some great pictures on google images, i will try to find this gem.

I wanted to ask, back when skyrim was new, some gamers with uber rigs where doing some ini tweaks to load far far areas in full details. It was related to "cells" something. What was that about and how i can do this myself?

Moreover i know ENB supposedly improves the game visuals by a longshot, how do i install this "ENB" thingy? Sorry for so many questions, just very excited since the auto detect function of skyrim, when the game is first lauched, detected this game for ultra quality with everything maxed out on its own. :D
