Reach and Black Ops of course will sell, but even with any new features, it's still just Halo and CoD. The majority of players aren't really buying them for the new features, but rather for the name, and knowing that the developers have established a solid franchise. Brink is offering a totally new experience, which can both be a benefit and a downfall. Those who are looking for something new and fresh, will be intrigued, while those who are skeptical, either about what the game sets out to accomplish or the fact that it isn't an established franchise, will keep a safe distance away. On top of things being hyped, like the art style, customization and SMART, the fundamental "SD-style" objective gameplay, is a new concept for console gamers. Those who think it will just be another CoD or Halo or BC2 clone, or the ones who say things like, "it's like TF2 and Mirror's Edge had a baby," will have their speculations shattered, when they discover how truly new and refreshing Brink's gameplay will be.
I see a big chunk of Brink's success coming from word of mouth. New IP's, especially one developed by an unfamiliar studio (at least on console) tend to get little help from reviews and number scores, concerning sales. Players will remain cautious until something they can relate to, like a friend's opinion, might sway their vote. Once Brink shows that it can deliver the goods (which I'm sure it will) it will develop it's own dedicated fanbase, just like any other triple A shooter.
