BetterMusicSystem 2.3

BetterMusicSystem is a complete overhaul of the Oblivion music system:
enhanced combat music, custom music playlists for many locations, regions, factions...,
silence while sneaking... and much more!

now with support for Shivering Isles and Elsweyr: the Deserts of Anequina!

DOWNLOAD: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26892

FEATURES:
(most of the features can be toggled via the ini file)

ENHANCED COMBAT MUSIC (more info below)
● CUSTOM MUSIC PLAYLISTS for many locations, factions, cities, regions; for night, underwater, stormy weather and sneaking!
● 7 CUSTOM PLAYLISTS that you can assign via spell or special magic items (see below)
● ASSIGN the 4 DEFAULT playlists to any cell. (yes, battle too!)
● FADING between tracks, music types (explore, public...), playlists
● RESUME of normal music if combat was short
● battle music fades out SLOWLY after combat before normal music fades in
● music fading out when sneaking (as an alternate to the sneak playlist) and when talking
● PAUSE FEATURE: custom pause after each track (that ends after a given time, on a shortcut press, on music type change)
track names can be printed to the console.
there is a playlist for the load screens.
(otherwise the mod would play the default music for a few seconds before it is able to recognize the target cell) by default it's silence, but you can put any short jingle in here.

The Phonograph / The Emerald Of Music:
if you place it somewhere, whenever you are in the same cell, it will play a custom playlist which you can choose by activating it. you can use it in ALL EXTERIOR cells too! you will find these items in a chest near the prison sewer exit.

THE POWER OF MUSIC:
this is a spell that gives you the power to alter the music for a cell, all cells owned by a faction / npc, or for a whole worldspace (including cities!). it does not work in the wilderness. (where you can still use the phonograph though!) you can also change playlists for predefined locations (e.g. mages guild). if you want to change a single cell that is owned by a faction you have to use the phonograph or emerald.
if you change a worldspace ALL interiors in it with default music will play that playlist too!

THE RING OF MUSIC:
when equipped it plays a playlist that you can choose with the 'power of music' while it is equipped. it's in the chest with the other two items.

ENHANCED COMBAT MUSIC:
(most settings can be altered via the ini file)

START of BATTLE MUSIC
● you must be aware of an enemy. battle music won't warn you about enemies that you can't see yet unless you get hit.
● VoyeurMode: combat is also detected if player is not engaged in a battle that is happening near.
● rats (and very weak enemies) don't trigger battle music at all, unless they hit the player or the player has low health. more then 3 rats will trigger combat music though.

END of BATTLE MUSIC
... when you THINK (or don't know if) combat is over. again the battle music won't warn you about further enemies waiting for you in the dark and you will never know if the battle is really over!
● when you are chased by an enemy that is far enough behind you that you can't hear him. you will never know if he is still behind you!
● music fades out slowly while some adrenaline heartbeat and breath sounds calm down... (depending on combat duration. short combat = short fade out, no heartbeat)
● silence after combat (few seconds) before happy explore flute music restarts

BIG THANKS to the COMMUNITY
for testing and reporting the many bugs and supporting me with enthusiasm!!

Thanks for the upload

Question though, is anyone working on making a music compilation to fill the new playlists
So far I found only this topic: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1043886&hl=%5Cbetter+music+system%5C
But it would be nice if someone would have made a compilation already

I have been following this superb mod ever since day one, side has accomplished something extraordinary. Music, for me, is one of the most important factors for the games I play and I have to frankly admit that the Oblivion music got a little bit dull after the 3rd playthrough or so, side is a really a godsend for having supplied us with this... Beauty... I really have no words to express my gratitude towards him, yet it would be great if he could someday upload his massive music folder, haha. Keep up the good work. ^^

I'm currently using "Enhanced Music Control", will switch to this if modders take advantage of the additional features.

As far as I can follow, one of the posters (OnmyojiOmn) doesn't want to use Enhanced Music and Control (or possibly any OBSE plugin; it's not totally clear), which is a requirement to use this mod, and the other (cipher86) is already using Enhanced Music and Control, but either doesn't realize that "other modders"-- such as side777-- are already "taking advantage of the additional features"... which this mod is witness of, or is waiting for "other modders" to create/include custom playlists to be used with this mod inside their mods.....

... or something.

Ah, that makes sense. By the way, this seems like the perfect opportunity to bring back up something I have told side777 about in the past: The possibility of taking this excellent mod to Fallout 3. Would that be possible? Would anybody, with side's permission, be allowed to do it? The downside is that side doesn't play Fallout, hence why we need somebody else willing to do it (or to send side a copy of the game, haha). Seriously, it would be a dream come true and would give modders an idea of what to do.

Yeah Fallout 3 really needs one of these upgraded music control mods.

If possible you should upload your Music folder somewhere, that would be icing on the cake!

That would definitively be awesome, side. Hopefully you could do it someday. We would all be eternally grateful.

Still waiting for you to drop Enhanced Music Control.

EMC is broken it doesn't look the like author is ever going to update it. The stutter it causes on my system makes the game unplayable, and others have reported the same issue. The workaround involves messing around with codecs and/or disabling hardware acceleration, and it's just not worth it.

EMC works just fine for me, I suffer from no stuttering at all and run the game at a stable 60+ fps (depending on the area). However, if there is a "workaround" it would be great to let side and everybody else about it, maybe I am simply not "noticing" the stuttering... That doesn't mean that I am not suffering from it, perhaps I just don't notice it. Sorry if I sounded like an idiot or a flamer, that was really not my intention.

You'd definitely notice. At one point the workaround was to remove all third-party MP3 codecs from my system, but another time that didn't work and I had to disable hardware sound acceleration through Alchemy. When it's a codec problem, you can't even disable them; just having them installed will screw up EMC, even though they're not even loaded when you play an MP3. People using a codec pack that doesn't uninstall properly have to reinstall Windows just to use the mod.

EMC is broken, read why

I (like many others) also have the stuttering problem with EMC, which prevents me from using such brilliant mods like this one. Sometimes the game just lags hard (skips some frames every 2-3s), and sometimes the game crashes 10s after loading my savegame. The stuttering and crashing is temporarily gone when I am fast enough to go into the audio setting and mess aroung with the music volume a bit. The stuttering returns everytime then when I enter combat mode or leave combat mode, so I actually have to change the ingame music volume 100 times, which it is not worth it. It's also not worth it to reinstall windows.

I guess the problem is caused by bad coding in the EMC files. And due to the fact that we exactly know when the stuttering starts (every time after loading a savegame and everytime when starting a battle or finishing a battle) someone is able to fix it. It would be so nice if someone could fix this bug or write another plugin so much more people can enjoy music mods... :)

ok. the author won't update... but the stutter is not caused by EMC. you will notice a 2-3 seconds lag on every track change without EMC too. this is a common problem with oblivion. and that problem is actually caused by messing around with codecs. cleaning this mess is not a 'workaround', it's a fix! who knows what further troubles these codec conflicts inflict??

there are free tools that can disable or uninstall codecs easily, so there's no need to re-install windows, it takes around 2 minutes (the time to write a post about it) to fix this... just keep only ONE MP3 CODEC. anything else does not make sense...!

and you really get this with just EMC running??
