Between the two

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:52 pm

Hi there, I think I might start playing the Elder Scrolls Series until Skyrim comes out and I can't decide which race out of the two I have mentioned in the poll. Imperial or Argonian.

My first character was an Argonian, I liked them because they looked.... cool.

My second character was an Imperial, and aren't they the closest things to a human. They look exactly like humans, like I am.......

Which one do you think is the best? Not because of their abilities.

Thanks in advance.

Please move if this is in the wrong section. Wasn't 100% sure.

I'll take your word for it.

It depends. If you want us to ignore the abilities of each of these races, but still say which is best, then we need to know what sort of character you like to play i.e. Which choice of class? (mage, warrior, thief etc)

And why limit it to these two races? You've played them both before, maybe you could try something different. Just a suggestion.

Well, Bretons, Nords and Redguards (though I'll assume you meant caucasian humans, so that one's irrelevant) also look exactly like humans, or are supposed to anyway. In which case choosea Breton, because they're cool.

But between the two, I'd choose an Argonian, because I just find Imperials and their culture really boring. But all this depends on what type of character you want to play anyway.

Thanks for posting. I mean Warrior/Mage/Stealth.

I dislike Nords and Bretons, because, there annoying and blah.

I like Argonians because of their looks and how they speak. But I like imperials because there the closest to humans like me.

I can't choose.

This... Confuses me. Just to quickly voice my opinion, the closest thing to Humans in TES are indeed, Imperials, but also Nords and Redguards. Can't really count Bretons since they are the result of interbreeding between two races. But I digress.

But, go at it like you did before. First play through as Argonian then go at it as an Imperial. I always go on my first play through as an Imperial, then with my second game I go in as a Dark Elf. But don't really limit yourself to two races, I suggest giving the Dunmer a play-through, especially considering that the Dunmer have been pushed from Morrowind, it's gonna for fun times dealing with Argonians in Skyrim. :P

Actually, this was a tough choice between my favorite and second favorite races. I chose Imperial by a narrow margin, not because they're more "familiar", but because they're pretty good (although definitely not "great") at almost everything, so you can pick the character and pretty much take them in any direction that the in-game events suggest at the moment.

Argonians are interesting because they're so unfamiliar, and because you're not bound by "human norms" of behaviour or reasoning. It still takes a "reason" to pick one option over another, but not always the same choice that a human would make. In-game, they're "quirky" to play, and can do some things extremely well, while having balancing limitations. Aside from that, the extended ankle joint gave them a truely "inhuman" but still "plausible" look in MW (except when they walked, then they just looked stupid). The lack of "uniqueness" in OB made them a lot less interesting to play, more like just people with monster masks.

Again, thank you all for posting. My decision is fairly hard for me but I think my first character will be "Imperial" second will be Argonian. Of course, this will be in Skyrim :)

I voted Argonian just to balance the results. For me they are both the same.

Each race is great as has its own unique identity. Argonians are a unique race with a lot of potential.

Unlike the Imperials who are like the Roman Empire and hold a greater amount of technology and order the Argonians are an interesting bunch. I will be interesting if the next installment after Skyrim is the Black Marsh so we can see what their homeland and social structure is actually like (based on poll results on which region people would like to see next = Black Marsh was winning).

We know that Argonians make the perfect assassins and that Argonians being raised as assassins is a big thing in Black Marsh.

I personally like to build my character around the lore of a race. i.e. I made an imperial based on the main character out of the film The Gladiator, I made an argonian dressed in assassins armor and as a pure assassin, I made a nord as pure warrior in the knight of nine armor, a pure magic using altmer in magicaians robes, a dunmer in elven armor etc etc

That way each character becomes unique and as interesting.

My main two are a Warrior Nord and a thief / archer Bosmer.

Anyone else get the feeling that this is a really weird thread? :\

To answer OP's question: Argonian. And there you have it.

An Imperial because to me they are just really cool. Their looks and culture are most fitting to me.

Well, you said the Elder Scrolls series, so I'd have to say Argonian, because you'll actually be able to play them in the first two games, unlike Imperials.

Same. I agree with what you said about the Argonians.
Im the opposite. I like to get a race, and then make them Unique, i.e A race with minimal magical history. I'd then make this character a Mage-Warrior. Ect... I like to mix things up.

For Skyrim, I'm going to be either a Breton or a Nord. Then become a Vampire (if i can)-mage-warrior. Then customize with Stealth and Illusion & Alteration magic like an Argonian and Underwater breathing.
I would only ever play as an Imperial because they were meant to be a respected race in Cyrodil. But where not playing there anymore are we?

They added Imperials to Morrowind to bland the place up, we don't need them anywhere. Argonians FTW!

Argonians are more of a jack-of-all-trades if you don't bring in the warrior trade.
If you bring in warriors, bring the Imperials.

Just so you know.......

Imperials emulate the Roman Empire

Nords emulate Scandinavians (Norweagins,Polish, Danish ect.)

Redguards emulate the African and Carribean cultures, more so the Carribean (I mispelled that)

The Wood Elves in some ways, emulate the Hunnic empire

Bretons emulate the peoples of the British Isles and France, (i.e. Scotland, Ireland, England.....and.....ug....France)

Just saying. Most of the cultures in Tamriel draw from real world cultures.

In other words, almost every race in TES is closer to "humans like you"

If you make an Archer, Go Argonian.
If you go Warrior/Magic, go Imperial.

Look wise, Imperial looks better in Heavy Plate (IMO)
But in Leather and Such, Argnonians got it in the bag. :)

imperials, nords, and redguards ARE humans
high elves, dark elves, wood elves, and orcs are elves
bretons are half human half elf
and argonians and khajiits are beasts
