Is BGS paying attention to us?

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 6:12 am

In any case, right now it's much too late to do any influence at all. I would guess that most things in the game are done soonish and that they will only spend the rest of the development time tweaking whatever they put in the game instead of adding new stuff. If you keep adding new stuff every week you have a Duke Nukem Forever on your hands and a 14 year development

No. And for all we know, it may already be part of the game.

I hope not. Most of us don't know what we're talking about.

I sure don't. :geek:

The members on this forum totals what 130,000? of which not all come here for Skyrim or even TES, since we have brink, FO, Doom etc etc

Oblivion has sold 5 Million (5,000,000) copies.....so yeah we don't matter AS MUCH as we may like, and quite frank im to an extent ok with that, Oblivion is what happens when the Devs tries to balance listening to fans with varying complaints and suggestions,

(I DON'T KNOW WHERE SO AND SO IS! - Magic compass)

(TOO MANY SKILLS THAT I DONT USE- reduced skills)

(SPEARS ARE OP - No more spears)

(ENCHANTING IS OP ON MULTIPLE ARMOR PIECES- less armor peices and max threshold on enchant)

as well as trying to "gain a wider audience" who at the time were more concerned with their FPS's, war games, and recycled Madden 0X 0XX and the other rehash yearly crap out games that continued to this day.

Tsch. Well they didn't listen to my idea to scrap the open world fantasy and focus on a story in space about a rugged, badass commander in space who has a taste for blue alien punani, attempting to rally the higher powers against an oncomming evil.

Damn you Bethesda *shakes fist*

/sarcasm

On a serious note I'm sure they drop in time to time. Clearly they'll only listen to ideas or suggestions they like or criticism of past game mechanics or features if they make sense.

The height of taking suggestions was probably the period before announcement.

You all realize for -years- before Skyrim's announcement people have been talking over changes or additions for the next game. They got a good dose of fan input.

Sometimes. When they're compiling :D

As long as they get our main points and opinions about what we might want to be implemented and what we might want to be changed, that most people agree about, it's all good.

The reason they all Bethesda's 100 employees aren't around on the forums all the time is obviously because they are... working on Skyrim. Or doing something private on their sparetime.

There was a thread exactly like this one not long ago and I'm kind of confused why another one is needed.

NO!

They totally didnt listen when I said TES V should have guns and spaceships!

Bethesda has completely given up on its fans.

Huh, thanks for linking back to the older thread. Completely didn't notice that a few devs answered my question :D

To sum it up, yeah, they listen. No, they aren't your suggestion slaves. When it comes to things that will be in the game, I'd assume it's stuff that they themselves would like to see in the game, while the forum is just a grab bag of ideas that they may or may not like, but it'd only be stuff that they themselves want to see. Unless, perhaps, they get a petition of 10,000 signatures for the inclusion of spears. But when you're forced to wear a helmet that drains all of your ideas in order to feed Todd Howard, you might need the forums too :P

Do they take influence? Barely any, maybe dialogue for M'aiq the Liar.

I totally disagree with that. Anyone who was around from Morrowind to Oblivion could see just how much an effect forum complaints could have on the game. From what we've seen of Skyrim, the same is still true. Do you think we would have had fast travel AND carriages in Skyrim if people had not complained about Oblivion's fast travel?

I'm not expecting the devs to be here all the time. I understand that they have other stuff to do. I'm not expecting them to be my “suggestion slaves”. And I haven't been on this forum for a long time. I'm not aware of past threads.

According to stuff I've heard from other game companies, if they do listen to the fans' ideas, they can't openly admit it. The other company said something about liability reasons or other such stuff. If someone proposes an idea and the company says the like it and end up using it, the person who had the idea could come back after them for it.

Did you not participate in the suggestion threads that were ongoing for YEARS leading up to Skyrims announcement?
There was a suggestion thread for years and a thread like this every day.

I'm guessing you went under a different name then. Considering your join date. Out of curiosity, who are you originally?
With the sudden flood of noobs, the only guy I remember from the suggestion threads is Orzorn. I think I saw FalloutFTW a few times around here as well.

I guess this answers the OPs question.

DanielKay was also a very active poster in the suggestion threads two (?) years ago, and so was I. Although, I posted more in the speculation thread with that guy whose avatar is a kid moving his eyes in circles.

This is the same Maxwellthefool as the other one, I just forgot my password to the old one and linked this account to my Facebook >.>

I think it is because in forum commands, such as [.b] [./b] and [.quote] [./quote], the / prefix is used to mean the end, so /thread means the end of the thread.

Do they look at the forum? Yes. Are they using our suggestions? Not likely, because it is only months from release, at the moment they are probably finishing up on every thing, testing, and getting ready to promote it.
