Bible of the Deep Ones?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:14 pm

This is probably a noob question, but what is up with the Bible of the Deep Ones? There's a translation in TIL, but it's not in english. Anyone know what it says or know how I can find out? Also, since Dwemer can sort of be translated to Deep Ones, does this mean that the Brethern in Hackdirt worshipped the Dwemer, or do they have the same religion as them, or is Hackdirt totally unrelated to the Dwemer?

I don't have an answer regarding the translation, however I can say that the "Deep Ones" being the same loose translation as "Dwemer" hadn't crossed my mind. Good eye, sir.

Personally, I don't think that they are connected, but I have nothing with which to back that statement up. I wouldn't prefer to think of the Dwemer as being regressed to hidden monsters rumbling around Cyrodiil waiting for sacrifices. Just doesn't sound like them, especially since they were kinda anti-[that kinda stuff] pre-Walk Brass. But hey, who knows, right?

It's part of an easter egg based on Lovecrafts "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", hence the quest name "The Shadow Over Hackdirt". You can find more about Love craft's Deep One's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_One. Considering these are fish creatures from the depth of the sea the Hackdirt Bretheren do not worship the Dwemer but the Sload.

The Bible has an excerpt on http://til.gamingsource.net/obbooks/ngasta.shtml (written by the Sload Necromancer N'Gasta), which is translated http://til.gamingsource.net/dogate/ngasta.shtml.

I know relatively nothing about the Sload, other than a few in-game mentionings and the PGE 3rd's reference. But what are the Sload doing in the middle of Cyrodiil, which is nigh landlocked? Did they ride those land dreughs? (The dreugh question is not to be taken seriously, btw)

Yes, Redguard took place at the end of 2nd era

N'Gasta looked like this:

I wonder whether they would have black or white souls? And, again, what are they doing underground in Cyrodiil?

They're not. The staff simply needed a nonscence book to copy, as to make thing easier on themsleves, and simply copied part of N'Gasta Kvata Kvakis.

N'Gasta Kvata Kvakis itself is simply a copy+pase from the offical Esperanto society website. The book itself isn't tips on necromancy, it is the history of Esperanto.

Also, the text is Daedric, not Dwemer.

I belive you are wrong, as the text of N'Gasta Kvata Kvakis is:

"Kva! Kvak! is the newsletter of the La Ranetoj. It is send to paying members and other individuals who, in some way, are involved in la Ranetoj's activities. In it there firstly is information about the locations of the monthly meetings, but of course also concerning the latest activities of the club. Sometimes it also includes other educating or entertaining material.

The Internet-based Kvako are on the one hand another distribution channel for the contents of the paper version. But on the other hand, not surprisingly, the contents of the different versions connot and even must not always be 100 percent the same. For instance, in little circulating paper versions you can publish illustrations that, for copyright reasons, connot be used on the Internet. Yet on the other hand the low costs of the Internet version lift the space limits and allow more content, not to mention being always to date."

These circumstances influence the web-based Kvako, which will also serve as the general homepage of the 'La Ranetoj'."

The bold part is the aproximite text of the bible of the deep ones. I see nothing about frogs there.

I kinda liked http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shub-Niggurath myself.... The whole scary transormative six magic thing sounds both kinky, and fun. (Too bad you would have to wear a burkha robe in public afterwards... Kinda hard to conceal horns and goatlegs.)

Oh, I'm sorry, I must have skimmed it and picked up on the 'La Ranetoj' bit which actually meant "Little Frogs". Eh, but like I said, who's counting?

"La Ranetoj" (which does appear in the bolded text) is Esperanto for "The Little Frogs", which is the nickname of a music club within the Stockholm Esperanto Society (probably not the society itself, though my Esperanto is not good enough to make the distinction), for reasons that must seem good to them.

"The Little Frogs" (or "Sm?grodorna") is a very famous and widespread swedish folk song, and it comes together with a very special dance. Ususally performed around the Maypole at Midsummer. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I5BGsK5ZAU. A typical Swedish Midsummer. Sm?grodorna is "performed" at around 0:30 and 2:45.

The last one is even better, because then you can hear him sing:
"The little frogs, the little frogs;
Is funny to see
The little frogs, the little frogs
Is funny to see

No ears, no ears, nor tails have they got,
No ears, no ears, nor tails have they got
"
Rinse and repeat as needed.

And oh, to come back ontopic, this thread has been severly Necromanced.
And the Deep Ones are not Dwemer, and they're not Sload either. It's an easter egg.

Sm?grodorna is probably the most hilarious song in the world and is probably one of the reasons why I dont meet with my family at that time of the year.

And as already stated it's an easter egg from the great horror writer H.P Lovecraft.
