Big boost to vampires, necromage.

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:59 am

Incase you didn't know, the restoration (70 requirement) perk necromage increases all spells effectiveness against the undead by 25%. As a vampire the game classes you as undead, so you get that 25% bonus on any enchanted apparel you wear, any spells that affect you, basically anything thats used on you.

It increases the duration of spells by 50%, so I can cast dragonhide for 150 seconds dual cast, ebonyflesh for 297 seconds. It also increases the effectiveness of ebony flesh by +25%, resulting in 375 armor rating with mage armor.

The greater ward gives me +100 armor rating and +100 magic shield. So this means I can achieve 537 armor rating (64% damage resist) with ebony flesh, the lord stone and the greater ward up. You can also dual cast or dual single cast the greater ward, resulting in 657 armor rating dual cast or 637 dual single cast. Which is very close to the armor cap of 667, without any armor.

Any stone you use gets increased by +25%, the lords stone gives me +62 armor rating and +31% magic resist. If you combine the atronach perk and stone, you will be completely immune to magic all the time, 100% magic absorption. Very overpowered though, I use the lord stone.

Any potion you drink increases its effectiveness by 25%, and its duration by 50%, so most self made potions last 45 seconds now instead of 30.

So the archmage robes for example, now give me +125% magicka regen rate, +62 magicka and +18% fortify magic schools.

I can use the conjuration spell raise zombie/reanimate/revelant/dread zombie for 400 seconds when dual cast.

The drawbacks I've found aren't that difficult to deal with, you can keep a companion with you for whenever you need to feed. The -125% (thats changed from -100% as well unfortunately) magicka, stamina and health regen rate in sun I can easily counter with my own enchantments, although I don't need stamina and health regeneration. I usually stay in the dark anyway, you get a power to see in the dark and nearly all dungeons and buildings aren't in the sunlight.

Edit: Just experimented and found out that perks taken whilst being a necromage vampire are boosted by 1.25% too! So the damage perks are increased, all the perks that increase by a specific value (e.g. Increase skill effectiveness by 20%) are boosted.

Te illusion perks that affect how high a level the spells work up to are affected also, some destruction spells damage are increased (not entirely sure how this works, some spells are effected and some aren't), so my flames spell does 27 damage per seconds instead of the 22 it should be (illusion fear perk and +50%).

Lets hope they don't mess with it in 1.4, this has made vampires so much more appealing to cloth wearing mages. I wish I could chance the timescale on xbox though, 1:15 would be nice.

hmm... I have an Assassin character I was going to turn into a Vampire.... He's already working Illusion, but I think I might add Alteration to the mix to benefit from his Vampyrism.

And of course Resto..... but I'm using that already too since it's the ONLY way I survive head on fights. (main hand sword, off hand heal)

Feel free to give credit to Bigdug who discovered it first.

Good point, wasn't sure who exactly found it out first. Thanks!

Apologies for the noob question, but I have to ask; does having -125% Magic/Health/Stamina regeneration rate while in sunlight mean that your actively losing Magic, Health, and Stamina while standing out in the sun? Or was the extra -25% to regeneration rates merely a technicality that doesn't actually translate into anything?
Thanks in advance!

You can dual cast Pacify to enter a city, and feed on anyone.

Yup, vamps are the tops this time around - assuming they have that perk and a couple other things going for them. Nothing else comes close.

A derivative of this is your smithing skills. You can get your weapons so so sharp with that extra 25% buff to your potions and enhancers as a vampire.

It does not if you do not have any regain buffs. If you have 150% regain buffs, then you will only get 25% regain.

Okay so if I am understanding your post correctly, the -125% is only a check against any Regain buffs your character has?
If so then you wouldn't lose Health/Magic/Stamina while out in the sun, you would just need a bit of buffs to be able to regen again.

That is correct. I play a Stage 4 Vamp 24/7. I can assure you that you do NOT lose H/M/S while in the sun with no buffs.

EDIT : However, if you have no buffs then you will not regain at all.

THEY MUST NOT "FIX" THIS! You followed the rules and the game logic compliments what the perk describes. This is nothing short of awesome. The Aundae clan would be pleased to hear of this. :D

Don't worry. bethesda isn't going to limit things that are working to specifications, which this is. The only cries for "balancing" (i.e. nerfing things great like this) are from haters on the forums. Never happens in TES history- this isn't WoW, no need to make sure everything is equal.

No one makes a sharper sword than a vampire smith.

I'm sure I sound like a broken record on this- but just to add to the thread:

Light armor wind walker perk will make your stamina regen even while a vampire in the daytime.
Restorations magica regeneration perks will make your health regen while a vampire in the daytime.

So 2/3 problems with the regen can be solved with perks. You will probably be in the restoration tree already for necromage.
Light armor - a good reason to specialize light armor as a vamp.

While those are good points. And they are buffs to regain. I have not invested any perks in Heavy Armor after my 1st warrior and I have never invested in Light Armor at all. I have yet to forego the Necromage route for my Vamps, then again I don't have the need and I play them DID on master.

However, those are all valid buffs and perks if one wanted to entertain the idea.

EDIT : I don't really try to overthrow the neg regain issue with my Vamps or the 100% Weakness to fire. I feel that there should be some neg issues with being a Vamp and being a Vamp in the full sun.

O_O That's the answer I've been looking for. I remade an orc jack-of-all-trades and perfected everything but his armor/weapons. I was wondering what he was missing to get his weapons better than my breton vampire. Thanks!

Totally of the same mind as you with regards to the fire weakness. If I don't ever have a weakness to anything it gets boring, so I leave fire weakness how it is.

In regards to the regen issue- I only see the regen penalty as an annoyance more than anything else. I mean how much of our combat takes place outside? Dragon fights? some bears and trolls? meh, most of the action is in the dungeons/caves/forts anyways. and you can always fight outside at night.

Playing S4-24/7, you would be surprised. Having to cast calm and invisibility often, Magicka regain can be an issue. That just adds to the challenge.

If you are using Vampire/Necromage the optimized built is to get 100% magic absorption with Atronach perk and standing stone.

This means you can cast equilibrium with impurity to take care of your magicka problem and never have to pay the health cost. The healing spell takes care of the health and stamina once you have infinite magicka.
