"Big Boy" and Fat Man MIRV: damage display bugged?

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 2:22 pm

The famous "Big Boy" Legendary Fat Man mini-nuke launcher. I have had other weapons with the legendary property of this weapon (shoots two projectiles), and they displayed the proper amount of total damage in the weapon stats. For those of you that don't know, this property adds a second projectile (but only depletes ammo supply by 1) to your damage. The second projectile is at base damage only, and the overall damage is the average of the two projectiles. However, on the Big Boy the damage display isn't any higher than a regular Fat Boy, or only by a few damage points. Fat Man: 1837 Big Boy: 1875 It should be MUCH higher, shouldn't it? Or is there some math voodoo particular to very high damage weapons I'm missing.

Also on these launchers: making the MIRV modification shows the damage dropping to very low levels. On a normal Fat Man the damage is 37, MIRV mod on the Big Boy is 75. Again, much too low. IIRC MIRV fires 8 projectiles in a spread...and I know it does a hell of a lot more damage than 37 each!

Yes the damage is miscalculated o the mirv mod, and big boy is bugged display wise.

Is it just the display that is bugged, or does the bug nerf the actual damage? Or does it depend on which one I'm talking about, Big Boy or MIRV?

I had the MIRV mod say it would make my Fatman do 15 damage... (granted, I was a low level, somewhere in the teens or 20s, when I took a look at the mod options) So is that a display bug, or does it actually mean something? It DOES say that MIRV is "experimental"...so that makes me wonder if there's something special hidden in the upgrade.

90% it's just the name, since there was a weapon in FO3 called the experimental MIRV. No idea if it's a display or actual bug though, haven't played with fatman at all.

In previous games, the MIRV is extremely powerful, and it's not supposed to reduce the damage exponentially like this. It's definitely a mistake. Still waiting on confirmation whether it's just a display bug or a bug with the actual damage. I guess one easy way to find out is test it out in battle, something I haven't tried yet. If it's really that low it should be pretty obvious.

Yeah, definitely. I will give it a whirl when I have the materials and crafting ranks to make it. :) If it shoots a cluster of nukes, that should be useful against the Mirelurk Queen at the Castle.
