big DLC, big suprise?

Post » Sun Jul 17, 2011 10:01 pm

okay so as most of know by now, dlc in skyrim is going to be much bigger than fallout, so shivering isles size?
they have also metioned that they will base it on feed back this time, so complain as much as you want after the games out :D

okay heres my idea for a big content add on:
you go to sleep and you awakened by a follower of hermeos mora, they have given you directions to a secluded place. once there you are greeted by the voice of mora, inviting you to their sphere. in which you do quests and other things and you also go on hunt for many relics and the sorts. as for the main plot i cant think of one at the moment but i would want it to be very fun and investigative. some new enemies to fight. perhaps a new dragon type that will be unique to this particular realm. new weapons and armour. new spells, unique spells. and then perhaps adding little bits to skyrim itself in the form of houses.

so what ideas can you come up with, and if you can think of an idea what kind of content do you expect?

and lastly are you happy they are doing bigger DLC?

my idea for a dlc

A cold retribution:

"a vast and ancient dwemer underground metropolis ruins (albeit mostly intact) now occupied by the falmer, they've been biding their time to retake the surface and now the time is nigh.
even deeper below the ruins, an ancient guardian dwells, the dwemer called it their success of science over magic and in the end the creature turned against its masters and even now it continues to protect the deep ruins...as its property."

the creature (a robotic dragon)

http://i999.photobucket.com/albums/af117/happystreet3/steampunk-dragon.jpg

i imagine it to look a bit like this but more...steampunk-ish, no futuristic planes like in the pic but old style airships

http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/150/7/4/745fe9ab0018e46e225e0cd5726e3071-d3b9lw3.jpg

i think it would make a great contrast between the surface and the underground

ps: i don't know how intelligent the falmer are but i'd wager they can't reproduce dwemer's technology so we'd see things like armor made out of dwemer spare parts, blades, axes and maces built with pieces of what could have been guns, and the airships are probably dismantled so we'd probably only see pieces of them.

I'd say it might smarter to release a few large ones, the customers won't have so much to choose from, you know? Also, I prefer a couple of huge expansions expanding the world rather than tons of additions.

I'm expecting a revisit to Daggerfall, Todd stated he would like to do something like that in one of the podcasts. But definitely a werebear/werewolf/wereboar expansion involving Hermaeus Mora and his Hunting Grounds, if lycanthropy isn't included in the vanilla version.

I'd also like some huge Dwemer dungeons (like Moria) to be included if not in vanilla, like above.

My idea for DLC would be to include as many things as possible that weren't in Vanilla (e.g. throwing weapons)

To be honest, I'm not keen to see dungeon DLCs. Mehrunes Razor was largely uninspiring for me.

Plus a shivering isles/bloodmoon esque expansion pack.

"Skyrim: Expedition to Elsweyr"!! ok probably won't happen, but how about the birthplace of the Orcs, the Dragontail Mountains? Just off the top of my head, as they stretch into Skyrim in the southwest.

well Todd said something about seeing one of the city in Daggerfall in modern graphics so maybe High Rock will be a expansion.

I would like big DLC... Maybe something like going to Morrowind(since I've never played it) or just something like the Shivering isles... I really won't the DLC to be wacky like the Shivering isles... With really crazy people.

I think there is two possibilities for DLC

1) Fallout style - A bunch of medium sized adventures, a few hours long. Like they did with New Vegas and Fallout 3

2) Oblivion style - Some really tiny little addons like theme houses and mini missions, but then maybe a few big expansions (like Shivering Isles)

Or maybe a little bit of both. Personally I think most of those Oblivion mini addons were lame, but I do like the big expansions. If they did some Fallout sized add ons then one big full blown Expansion that would be the best case scenario.

If for some horrible reason they don't have necromancy, were-creatures, and/or vampires quest/abilities/transformations. . .

Then a huge DLC adding them. . .

One about joining/opposing Necromancy. . .Necromancy Spells (I don't just want "Command" I want "Reanimate" and I don't care about being a goody-goody mage)

One with a TON of Were-creature/Vampire Quests/Activities (Activities being things/actions that can only be done when transformed)

I hope the Were-creature/Vampire system isn't as bland as Oblivion's

Bigger DLCs with more content are much more likely to get my attention. To use Mass Effect 2 for example... I never bought any of their equipment packs. There is plenty of gear in the game and its already a bit too easy. More overpowered equipment isn't going to improve my gameplay experience. However, the ones that added the extra missions or a new companion were well worth the money to me.

I can't use Oblivion's DLC as an example sadly. My own disappointment with the game(which was somewhat my fault for too high expectations) kept me from purchasing any further addons of any size.

My idea for DLC:

You hear a rumour about a scholar looking for an escort for an expedition to some dwarven ruins, maybe in some remote location in morrowind, and start up a massive investigation that leads to finding out exactly what happened to the dwemer.
Or something to that effect, i dunno I just want a concrete explanation, i loved everything about the dwemer in morrowind. :tes:

Oh, and for DLC, do not make it exclusive to any one platform or two platforms... and don't do a bad job of porting the DLC, either, Bethesda. I don't want to buy another broken product from you.

Ditto this.

My idea for an expansion (other than the above) :

24 hours after installing (like SI in Oblivion), you get a new conversation topic: the "Greatbeast". Choose this option in conversation with certain people and they'll explain how people are vanishing in a certain settlement and their bodies found horrifically mauled, along with livestock and other animals. It seems to be the work of the mythical Greatbeast. You travel to the settlement and try and hunt down the creature. Eventually you find and slay it... beginning the new storyline, and teleporting you to Hircine's realm (I think it's Hircine).

Basically Hircine has decided to arrange a grand hunting tournament for a bit of fun. By sending his Greatbeasts all over Tamriel, he has gathered each nation's greatest hunters and summoned them to his realm. He wishes to determine the greatest mortal huntsman.

By day you compete in challenges -- hunting a particular beast and so on -- and you can attempt the challenge as many times as you like until you die trying. By night the roles are reversed, and the hunters become the prey. You must form alliances to survive the predators that swarm the land by night -- but be warned! Other competitors may try to thin the competition out by killing off the other hunters! Do you have what it takes to win the tournament and be crowned the greatest hunter?

^^^ I think the idea of forming and breaking alliances would really add something. You might befriend a mage-type character and convince them to team up so they can heal you, only to betray them and stab them in the back when it suits you -- unless they get you first. As an ultimate reward for the questline, I think it'd be nice to have some sort of unique mount to take back to Skyrim -- perhaps a sabre-toothed tiger? Unlikely to happen, but I'd love it.

Then you missed out on a lot, because Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles were both excellent expansions. Definitely more fun then the vanilla Oblivion (which I still thought highly of). None of the Fallout DLC's come close to matching either.

Yes i would like larger DLC something like Shivering Isles, but it would be great if there were some micro dlc as well, like extra weapons or new armor. If it were one or the other and i could only have one type, then large DLC would be my choice

SI was great, so if they want to do more DLCs of that scope GREAT.
I just hope that the devs know that if they want to add some micro DLCs in between like new armor or a players house, I'd happily buy that too :D

Todd said DLC will have an "expansion feel." So bigger than Fallout3 DLC, smaller than Shivering Isles.
