Time to brush up on my dating skills so I can pull that fine high elf at the bar ... or not
I couldnt care less about tryng to be sixually apealing to npcs in a game. I dont mind it been optional but please dont force that crap on me, I just want to kill things and explore, cant do that if I have to go home to cook dinner and hang the washing out.

Not that anyone really cares, those against/pro romance wont change their views because of one post, but I'll try to explain why I think romance should be included.

Anyway... for that minority that actually reads posts:

Romance, just as any other feature, could be well or badly implemented in the game. I'm certainly against a cheesy badly built romance system (like the persuasion wheel) with no more reward than a lame cutscene, that would be totally absurd.

I think romance should be included because I believe it could easily add depth to the game, giving us new roleplaying options, not because I need a horribly bad six simulator!

I love RPGs, but not really the combat, not at all. My, by far, favorite character build svcks at combat, and gets frequently owned by Orc warriors, but that's part of the fun to me.

I love to play as an Imperial sweet-talking trader/explorer that masters alchemy, armorer and alteration, and always tries to find a non-aggresive approach to all quests. Oh yeah, and he hates Bosmer.

I bet romance feels stupid to those combat-oriented characters that can enter a dungeon and slaughter all enemies without thinking twice, and I understand it. But, as a high speech-craft kind of character I would love to be able to romance NPCs to achieve the same warriors achieve by slaughtering, mages by spells and thieves by sneaking around.

In other words, I want to be able to romance a NPC in order to make it easier for me to kill it/ steal from him... rather than just have to work on my blade/destruction/sneak skill. I want to be able to flirt with other NPCs to get discounts or obtain new information, and what the hell, just to feel I'm part of a more realistic world.

I don't enjoy enchanting, or spellcrafting, but hey, others do. Since enchanting or spellcrafting give you more options, I'm cool with both.

If romance is indeed in, I'm hoping that there are non-sixual romance options available.

That said, I'm rather hoping that romance isn't in at all. I don't think that games have evolved far enough to bestow it with the level of depth I'd hope for in this sort of game.

why are people so adamantly against romance? It's just another option in the game. If you are so against romance, then simply DON'T try it, and you might as well cover your eyes everytime people kiss in movies.

RPG = Role playing game
a good RPG has many choices which allow the player to have the flexibility to live the life he or she wants
why not include a romance option, since it does make the game contain more options?
I just hope that the romance system is good.

adding romance/marrige to skyrim would be awsome!!! 10 races to choose from, u already have a house, kids, work...just add romance/marrige a few more commands and soft/sixy female voice to the one or two that loves you and you have another lvl in sjyrin than just killing all the time and hate too.

How is a feature that grants better character relations in an RPG a waste of a resource ? I can see romance being a waste in a racing game, I can see romance being a waste in a fighting game (tekken, street fighter... etc), I can see romance being a waste in a sports game... but romance is most certainly not a waste in an RPG.

The option of having romance helps your define who your character is. I wouldn′t say the Dark Brotherhood was a waste just because I hardly ever play assassins, but the Dark Brotherhood helps those who wish to be sinister and evil assassins define their characters as such.

So don′t go saying it′s a waste for those who would play as a simple farmer with a partner or as the romantic hero or the flirtatious bard.

I do not care about about roleplaying as in actual roleplaying. And the same goes for the other few millions of players who play games casually. The skills I pick define my character. Instead of wasting resources on this very useless thing, use them to enhance combat, dialogues, items.

Also to the folk who said that 'Killing = OK, Assassination = OK' etc. These things you mentioned are action packaged, fun and exciting. Romance is standing still acting like a casa nova to virtual women. Which is sad if you ask me. Anyway this is my opinion, I do not mean to offend anyone.

Didn't Todd say something about being able to develop friendship with any NPC, something like NPC's might give you food or offer you a bed. Maybe that's a sign you can develop romances with any NPC as well? Because if romances are in, I hope you can do it with any NPC.

There should be romance and friendship aspects in the game to make it more like a true RPG. There needs to be more than just action, exploration, and crafting.

I dont see what there is to gain from having a romance in my playthrough, unless i was role-playing which i rarely do, or unless i would gain an item that i needed, but i could probably gain the same item by killing that person and looting their corpse which is sooo much easier.

Well, at least I play RPGs so I can roleplay. Powergaming and always going the easiest route, and just thinking that every character in the game is just an object that you can use to your benefit is very boring in my opinion.

My main character lost his love in early teens, so he don't care, as long as he have skooma, he can look for escape from his memories
It would take a hell of a character to actually make him remember that there is more to life than revenge :flame:

why would i awnt to have romance in a freaking video game????? this si stupid, id ratehr find a real gf than in a video game >.<

^^^THIS
P.S. But it still is question of roleplay. Because this thought can be extended to point where playing game is useless- you can do martial arts, or join army or something do other game content real life equivalent.

You know...Thinking about it, Romance and relationships could be a not so bad thing, so long as I have the option to punch the NPC in the face if they say something stupid. But for the love of all things holly [sic]... NO PSYCHIC GUARDS! When I punch a bint in the face, the entire populace of Town Guards do not need to draw their freakin swords in that instant.

Your'e right, but I left that option out in order to "force" people to side with one of the options.

Why? Well... Those that are pro-romance would argue that the "i don't care" votes favor them, and the anti-romance will do the same.

At the end, both sides will still consider themselves the majority, and the poll will be useless

Besides, if you really don't care... don't vote?

Of course, I might be wrong.

:foodndrink:

I'm fine with picking pro romance because I don't care whether it is in or not however you make us pick these specific poll choices such as should it be inter-racial relationships etc. If you are gonna justify don't care not being in because surely you are pro then give us the opportunity to say we don't care for the other poll options.

I'm not voting because it will skew results as I have no opinion on who should be romanceable etc.

I'm disappointed at the poll numbers but it's a small number so I'm not concerned. I'm against pretty much any type of Romance encounters in Skyrim. I can accept something similar to New Vegas but nothing farther. The reasons why I'm against Romance in Skyrim is.

1. It will add more controversey to the game- Yes it most certainly will, some people out there will say "Well this game is a six simulator", another problem is you will need to focus on them thus hurting other features in the game. Go look at a Bioware game like Mass Effect (Either 1 or 2) or Dragon Age. They focus a little too much on it in my opinion. You would also need to cater to a certain group of people thus fans may get turned off when they see this action in the game. Not to mention if this is in kiss Australia sales of the game goodbye.

2. It will hurt sales for the game- Yes this one will defintely happen. The reason being no parent is going to want to buy this for their 15 or 16 year old because "Oh there's six in the game". Long time fans of the series might be turned off when they see this feature, like for example "You have too much Fable in my TES, really Bethesda, really". If this feature is in kiss those COD numbers goodbye and expect 2 to 3 million sales. That's not a bad number but it's half of what the game should be getting.

3. This feature will force other features that fans want out of the game- You watch if I can't wear Greaves or become a Vampire because of this reason I will be pissed and acusations of Streamling will continue. Greaves isn't that important to me but it's the point what if I lose a feature that I like because of Romance.

4. BGS has terrible writers- I love the studio to death but I don't have faith that they can write the dialoge for this feature effective enough. I mean let's look at Nova, that was terrible. They should've did it similar to New Vegas but BGS for some reason didn't want to expand on that.

5. The Feature is a waste of time- Lastly yes this feature is a waste of time why you might ask. Well for one thing you will probably do this one or two times and then your done but what if instead of this feature we got a really cool quest or item that we really like that would last longer then what Romance can offer you.

The only time I'd go forward with a romance is if there was a good story to it.
Like the adversity of Imperial/Argonian love... :teehee:

Or if you were stealing away a girl who was being forced into marrying a Lord she didn't love, something like that.

Also if I did happen to like a particular character, and pursue a romance, I better not have to check in with her every day, that sort of thing is extremely annoying.

I can see it already: A man and wife have a small argument. The wife gives the man a small slap to the face. In a split second the city watch rushes inside their house through the door and takes the wife to jail. :P

Exactly. Shooter gamers for example should just get real guns and go to the shooting range and military exercises. I do. Sissies. :D

Video games aren't "freaking" and "useless kids' stuff" anymore. They're art and entertainment just like movies and books.

For romance :foodndrink:
I think it's a nice addition for the people who like to roleplay in an RPG. For the people who like to roleplay characters that are not interested in romance, there is always the option to not click on the romance dialogue line. For the people who don't like to roleplay romance and don't want it added in the game for the other people who like it either, what can I say...sorry for you guys, but TES is a very appropriate world for this kind of detailed simulation and this thing was natural to come sooner or later.

This argument is plain stupid. Argument by dismissal, causal reductionism and cliche thinking at their prime! Good job mate. :goodjob:

English isn't my first language too mate! It's a real pity whatever you wrote is completely unintelligible to me, really.

Why no same six romance option? B)

If you want to discuss if homosixuality or bisixuality should be in the game make your own post, mate. This questions are meant to be applicable to anyone.

1. It will add more controversey to the game- Yes it most certainly will, some people out there will say "Well this game is a six simulator"

2. It will hurt sales for the game- Yes this one will defintely happen. The reason being no parent is going to want to buy this for their 15 or 16 year old because "Oh there's six in the game"

3. This feature will force other features that fans want out of the game

4. BGS has terrible writers

5. The Feature is a waste of time

1. Controversey? What ever that is, it didn't stop Mass Effect for being extremely well received by the press. Besides romance does not equal six, mate.

2. Skyrim is meant to be a M-Rated Game (Titles rated M have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older), NOT a game for Kids. Besides, those 15-16 year old kids really should start buying games by themselves.

3. Wild Speculation.

4. I strongly disagree. Bethesda has awesome writers, you really can't make Morrowind or Oblivion so popular and GOTY with terrible writers. You just can't.

5. I strongly disagree, read post 28 for an example of how this feature could add depth to the game.

I have to agree here. All I have to say is Thank the Gods Skyrim takes place in a time period where there are no Cellphones. I couldn't stand the Relationship thing in GTA: San Andreas and completely forwent the relationship missions because they took away from the rest of the action: "CJ, why you no come and visit me?" "Bint! I'm in the middle of a gang war gettin my ass shot to hell, and you're binting about me missin' our date? GTFO!" If I'm out killing dragons, when I get back into town the Wife, Girlfriend, handfasted wench, or what have ya had better have my sammich waiting on the bloody table with a triple tankard of Ale. I swear if I get nagged for not upholding a good relationship rating... Some bint is getting punched in the face. Psychic Guards be Damned!
