Big Poll - ROMANCE

Romance in Skyrim?

Not an officially confirmed feature, but since it was mentioned in a http://www.gamebandits.com/news/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim-bethesda-follows-biowares-lead-in-rpg-romance-07211/ plenty of threads have discussed the topic.

It seems a lot of forum members love the idea, but others just can't stand it, but.. how many?

This poll has been created in order to allow us to understand what the majority believes, so... let the forums speak!

Disclaimer:

-This forum is to discuss 100% optional romance, if you wish to discuss if romance should be optional or not, make your own thread.

-Some forum members have proposed the inclusion of new options in this poll, such as "I don't care". Although I respect their opinions, this poll is meant for those who DO care, so such option will not be added. If you disagree, please make your own thread.

As long as Bethesda doesn't pull it off like BioWare, it's acceptable.

Where is the "I don′t really care" choice? Knowing how many people would′nt care is sometimes more interesting than knowing how many people want or do not want romance.

Poll is flawed, because those who are against romance have no such option in the last question.

The sixy Scrolls IV: Relationship Emulator

bdsn DLC - 400 ms points

Killing=Ok!
Dismemberment= OK!
Burning alive= OK!
Assassination= OK!
Stealing= OK!

Romance= OH GOD! You are disgusting, get a life! :sick:

Hey, I respect your opinion, but I just fail to see the logic behind it. It reminds me of when I was 6 and closed my eyes whenever a kiss was about to happen in a movie.

Ok, i'll add that option right away!

Since it's a multiple choice type of question I thought it was pretty obvious that if you don't like any of the options... you just don't pick any option. :shrug:

But added anyway to avoid confusion.

Thanks for the help! :foodndrink:

Well, that would be obvious if you had a choice, but you HAVE to pick SOMETHING for EVERY poll, multi-poll or not.

Just wanna explain this :P

In a multiple option question in a poll, you HAVE TO pick an option. If one didn't pick any option, you couldn't vote. That's why it was flawed.

Not a big deal now because you fixed it :) ... but something to think of for future threads.

Your'e right, but I left that option out in order to "force" people to side with one of the options.

Why? Well... Those that are pro-romance would argue that the "i don't care" votes favor them, and the anti-romance will do the same.

At the end, both sides will still consider themselves the majority, and the poll will be useless

Besides, if you really don't care... don't vote?

Of course, I might be wrong.

Here's what I think of romance and relationships in Skyrim:

I'm not a big fan of this. I surely won't be part of it in the gameplay... as I, well, find it quite lame/pathetic when I'm sitting in front of my comp and pretending to role-play some husband or boyfriend with girl pixels. Just feels so fake and I laugh/cry at the thought of it.

In other words, not my kind of thing :mellow:
To me, it's The Elder Scrolls heading in a very, very bad and wrong direction.

Hopefully, it was just plans and the plans never went through... or it's just the magazine gotten it all wrong (it has happened before as we all know, *cough* facebook thing with Skyrim *cough*).

All part of surviving in harsh lands in harsh times. Look at the warrior in the background of this forum... Does he look like he's looking for love or out for blood? I just don't think it fits this game and always thought it was kinda lame in others I've played.

Ok, I see your point now!

I didn't know polls worked that way, I thought you could avoid questions and still vote.

Thanks for clearing that up hlvr! Good thing you saw that soon enough, or the poll would be useless

I agree. "I don't care" options do nothing but mess with poll results.

Personally I like romance and will definitely pursue romance arcs if possible. I think several NPC's should be romance-able. Including a few main quest characters, a few side quest characters and several small romance arcs with random characters.

Cant say its something that I'm that bothered about . If its in, fine, but its not the reason I play the TES games.

How is a feature that grants better character relations in an RPG a waste of a resource ? I can see romance being a waste in a racing game, I can see romance being a waste in a fighting game (tekken, street fighter... etc), I can see romance being a waste in a sports game... but romance is most certainly not a waste in an RPG.

The option of having romance helps your define who your character is. I wouldn′t say the Dark Brotherhood was a waste just because I hardly ever play assassins, but the Dark Brotherhood helps those who wish to be sinister and evil assassins define their characters as such.

So don′t go saying it′s a waste for those who would play as a simple farmer with a partner or as the romantic hero or the flirtatious bard.

Not interested in romance for a simple reason, any development time spent on it would be better spent just about anywhere else in the game in my opinion, i hate scripted story and romance is just an extension of that, ES is the only sandbox rpg, if i want a linear story i can play any myriad of games from dragon age to the witcher, but if i want freedom only ES can deliver that, i don't want to be shackled to more story so no thanks, in an unlikely twist i'm actually comforted by knowing ES has been made mostly with console players in mind, they will prefer action and won't want to sit through a tedious love story.

Just my opinion of course.

I dont see what there is to gain from having a romance in my playthrough, unless i was heavily role-playing which i rarely do, or unless i would gain an item that i needed, but i could probably gain the same item by killing that person and looting their corpse which is sooo much easier.In short:dont care.

Read post 18, and just how does romance have to do with linear stories ? You can just as easily have romance as you can have any other thing. It′s an aspect that supports role playing and thus fits better into an RPG than many other things that have been added in Skyrim. Dragons don′t even help you define 'your' character as well as romance would since killing dragons isn′t exactly a characteristic. So if romance is a waste how are dragons not a waste in an RPG ?

Honestly I don′t get why people are so against romance, it′s not like it would be forced upon you.

As i said it's just my opinion, i don't claim to speak for anyone else, with regard to the ES romance to me comes right after the "more realistic eyebrows" feature in rank of importance, i find it unbearably tedious and i don't want development time spent on it while spell-crafting, agility and hand to hand are still missing from the game.

I like the option, and I think most NPCs should be romancable (excluding very important ones involved in the main quest, or ones where a quest would conflict with the romance). All in all, if they can add it in, great, more power to Bethesda. I'd rather they work on more important game mechanics, but it's just for fun in the end. If they have time after all that, hey go ahead and add romance in. I'd definitely like to see an in-game Lusty Argonian Maid haha. It would also be funny to see random people who flirt with you. It's not like they need to add in full-blown six or anything, but a boyfriend/girlfriend thing would be fun. Besides, if things ever got that serious, just dark out the screen like in New Vegas.

Romance can be a fun little diversion from gameplay, and there are ways to make it fun. But, I would always choose more quests/factions if there was an option.

I find that most games make romance, if included, a big part of story elements and I dislike the awkward choices that are posed because you "love" someone.

The warrior in the background is just a poster, it's not my character. Some of the characters I'll make do look like they are looking for love. And btw, many people don't even touch the main quest. That's the best feature of TES imo, to let the player decide who he/she is and whether romance is fit for their characters or not.
