Big Problems:

Post » Wed Aug 11, 2010 7:59 pm

I think this game should be great... if it actually runs.

Everything seems to run normally, up until I start a NEW GAME, skip the intro, the game would seem to load... and then crash. Tried reinstalling and still the same issue.

I run my Win 7 64 bit, on Vmware. 17" Macbook pro with 8 GB RAM and a i7 Processor. What am I missing? Please help... it feels ridiculous to have bought such a cool game with tonnes of crappy bugs.

I don't wanna blame anyone, but could somebody from the company do something about this issue ASAP.

Question though: Mac the problem or VMware the problem here?

I don't have VMWare so I can't respond to that. BUT:

I didn't have any luck running it at anything resembling a decent performance on my MBP i7 Windows 7 x64 boot camp installation.

I had to install Windows 7 x86, and run it in boot camp there, in addition to using the dx9 dll fix everyone's raving about.

Although now I crash to desktop after clicking "play" on the launcher, so that's a whole other problem.

VMware is not designed to work with 3d games. There is an experimental directX support, but it's buggy as hell in my experience.

Sadly, I doubt you will get this to work.

I really doubt that any virtual emulation of a Microsoft VGA works at all like a game-capable real video card. Since some such cards are actually part of some Mac PCs, it's possible you have such a Mac there, but you failed to get a driver for it.

Doh. I'll have to ask our tech dude to add a BootCamp then. At least that's a start...

Stricken, Win 7 x86? You mean 32 bit right?

For the sake of guys having Macs here with Bootcamp... anyone's found a solution or could there possibly be a patch to help us here?

Thanks for the replies so far... they help :D

I think every PC user is affected by the performance issues mentioned by Stricken, it's not limited to Macs with bootcamp. I have the game running on my wife's MB pro 13" via bootcamp and it runs overall the same performance as FO3 with that .dll in the game folder so you should be good as long as you boot into Windows. VMware is a mix of vritualization and emulation along with experimental direct 3d support - verry buggy running any 3d games assuming they run at all. I did (couple years ago) manage to get Oblivion running through wine though, although I never played it through wine long enough to know if that was a stable solution or not.

32 bit? You mean x86?

:)

They're the same thing, actually.

Hey all... thanks again. So I guess my chances lie better in bootcamp.

Anyone from Bethesda care to clear all our mentioned crashing issues? I really thought that Win 64bit would really enhance the whole gameplay but it seems that the game makers weren't ready at all. Sigh.

Any success stories of playing this game on Mac?? Any at all??

Well, I've finally ironed out my latest bug, which is that Fallout NV doesn't play well with (my) multiple monitors.

I turned one of them off, and it boots fine now.

Remember: Windows 7 x86 in boot camp.

And download the dll.

Hey Stricken,

You got a link to that .dll? Please share!
