[REQ] Big Town and Little Lamplight Expansion

Post » Fri Jan 17, 2014 4:17 pm

I've always thought that the story surrounding these two towns was greatly under-developed and thought it should be expanded. I've found multiple mods that expand on architecture of Big Town but did any mod try to adress the greater picture of both towns?

I'm not a modder but I am a writer who used to spend a lot of time role playing and writing fan fiction pieces. I have quite a few ideas for Fallout fan fiction but I promised myself I wouldn't invest my time and effort into something that I can't publish as original work (and there's no trace of sanctioned fiction for Fallout like it can be found for the Star Wars universe). However, I would be interested in contributing the lore and backstory, possibly quest content for Fallout mods. I'm also interested in talking about other mod ideas that need a story-teller's touch.

In case of Big Town and Little lamplight I think what is needed is not expansion but something opposite.

What is an opposite of expansion?

demolition is the opposite.

People are quick to criticize Bethesda for their failings in the writing dept, but usually all that's ever offered as a solution is removal.

So lazy begets lazy I guess. That seems like a [censored] solution to a [censored] problem. I am a modder and am working on a grandiose FO3 overhaul, which greatly rewrites many if not all of the motivations/ backstories/ dialogues of in game towns/npcs.

I would greatly appreciate any collaboration you can offer Peleus.

I've gotten into many debates on various forums about the LL dillema, obviously the logistics of the whole thing teeter on the limits of possibility let alone plausibility.

I still like the idea of a town of children that act as tiny advlts ( maybe they are the original inhabitants of the cave and exposed to a strain of FEV that gave them rapid

cell regeneration, ala very slowed aging, maybe 1 yr for 10).

Or maybe they are descendants, which poses many questions and opportunities for creative ideas on how/why.

Or maybe 1 of thousand of possible reasons, why not chose to write your way out of it?

I like explanations steeped in the factual, plausible, scientific reasoning of an alt earth.

That would be the trick, to have a mod that explains why Lamplight is still there, and where the kids come from. From the Wiki:

The question of how Little Lamplight's population of children is replenished is left unaddressed.

That would be mostly story anyway, could even be integrated into the existing settlements. To me, it was parents, not knowing better, that sent their kids there to be safe from the dangers of the wasteland. But, how do they get there? How do they find out about it?

How did they get there? The parent/s escorted them or they were orphans picked up by the LL wasteland patrols.

How did would any know about Little Lamplight? From the exiles at Bigtown.

Well the wasteland is a rough and tough place, I wouldn't be surprised if Little Lamplight's population consisted entirely or run aways and orphans.

It is not like the place is a secret either, multiple factions know about it but the act of going into a small cave to forcibly remove armed kids who hate advlts isn't a good idea.

Actually, I thought the answer is pretty straightforward. Big Towners are young advlts. They make babies, ship them to Little Lamplight so they don't have to raise them themselves. Yes, there will be ocassional strays that arrive in Little Lamplight but most of the population comes from Big Town.

That sounds great, Dukeanumberone. I will PM you shortly about the details.

Your skills are a commodity sorely needed within the modding community Peleus.

Its a common effect with modders to get caught up in all the If And OR Butts of scripting functions so much that story and or dialogue start to suffer.

Its hard to do both ... but ofcourse you still have to be a writer in the first place.

Stay gold Pony boy ... be a writer .

The question is: is a thread like this enough to get involved in modding projects or do I need to set up some major advertising?

I changed the title to a REQ, which is how you would ask for something like this.
