bigger creatures

Post » Fri Jan 28, 2011 8:19 pm

Yes i know, skyrim will have dragons which should be pretty big, but i want other big massive creatures as well. Because basically the biggest creature in oblivion was an ogre which wasn't even that big considering how big they should be. I know this is a minor issue but i would still like to see it resolved.

I might agree if not for one thing: After Super Mutant Behemoths in Fallout 3, I've seen Bethesda's handling of massively large creatures and thus I know it's a damn good thing dragons can fly else their fights wouldn't be epic, just "epically stupid": Snag dragon on landscape, retreat to safe distance, kill trapped-and-helpless ineffectual enemy at leisure.

I'll pass, thank you very much.

The GI preview includes a picture of a giant and it's certainly larger than the standard enemies we could encounter in TES III and IV.

Well, we have a shot of a giant spider in the magazine that was an impressive size (stands about at human height, and has legs that, stretched out, would probably be about 12 feet long), so there's some promise. I just hope that Bethesda makes it so that fighting big guys like him will be a much different affair from the standard "slash it until it dies" approach, and require a lot more strategy to bring down.

What i hope they don't do, is incorporate a timed cutscene like "like character dodges leg, repeatedly tap X to begin cutting the leg off."

I doubt we'll see quicktime events in Skyrim.

I can see bigger creatures more plausible now seeing as how we have a better engine and now they can help themselves if they get in the way of something.

QTE in skyrim? how could you even think of bethesda trying those out? it would completely kill the immersion, it'd be weird, too.

all i hope is that the monsters dont go getting stuck... it'd be nice if they were made smart enough to detect objects and climb over or walk around them.

we really need an engine that allows enemies to jump and climb, because escaping them is WAY too easy.

hopefully dragons' flight is done well, too... i mean, remember cliffracers?

they'd fly over to where you're at, hover over you for 5 minutes while slowly lowering, like a freaking helicopter... then stab your eyes out with their whip-like tail, while screeching like harpies choking on tobasco sauce and shards of glass.

Dagon isn't technically an enemy because you can't kill him. You could wabbajack him and kill him I believe but that was a bug.

um... mehrunes dagon is a daedric prince, you seriously expect to be allowed to kill him?

he was an enemy, just an immortal one.

I think the main reason this could not be implemented is because when you scale a monster up too large it doesn't react correctly with the environment, maybe the new engine will fix this

also siege engine? although that was more of an object

and deadric will relatively larger than the player

I agree as long as the caves are big enough.

Some huge bosses would be sweet, and not just main quest related, and not a human. Bosses need to be more than bandits that can take more damage.

Perhaps some horrible, huge blob that's attached to the walls and can only attack by waiving it's arms and summoning monsters, the player would have to dodge the arms while also avoiding the traps in the room, the boss could only be damaged by climbing up on it (or shooting) to attack it's eye.

It's a pretty generic RPG boss fight I know, but hell of a lot more interesting than the Mannimarco fight for example, which was a pretty disappointing end for the character, just a regular necromancer with more HP / Damage

On the console version, I launched a super powerful shock spell of mine and melted him :3

It wold be great to see bigger enemies but I would hate to see them stuck on objects in the environment, also the cliff racers was one of the most bothersome creature ever in a game hopefully they have a completely redesigned and more dynamic flight system for one of my personal favorite fantasy creatures the dragons, I hope Bethesda does them justice.

Seing as how the original mudcrab was one of the most frightening, destructive entities in oblivion... we would be utterly doomed.

We did have the Gatekeeper in Oblivion.

In Skyrim, so far it seems we have giant spiders, giants, dragons and mammoths. Also keep on the look out for the possibility of snow whales.

I think there will be plenty of big creatures.

Would be nice to see a collosus though, so long as it worked well.
