Bigger, Larger, Epicer, More Exhilarating Battles

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:18 am

The thing is, I want bigger battles. In oblivion they was a few big battles that were really exhilarating.
For example they was the one with the great gate and the one in the imperial city before Akatosh fights Mehrunes Dagon.
Now don't you just want more battle like that, I'm only thinking 50 v 50 here not Lord Of The Rings.
It may mess about with the frame rate if there's too many.
I don't want frequent ones just about 2 or 3 in the game like all the guards of one city charging towards a attacking horde of 50-70 Trolls.
But because the foe's are going to be dragons, I fear that Bethesda will not think of these kind of battles. They will be implanting more 1 vs Dragon battles :(
Please tell me of your thoughts of this topic.

I would like epic battles more sparse then all the time, just so when it gets round to a epic battle it actually feels epic and not oh.. Another one..

Chaos and lag =/= tactical fun.

No thank you.

I want LOTR sized battles. I also want a million dollars... oh wait that's not worth anything anymore... make that a trillion dollars.

I would enjoy some larger scaled battles but what I definitely don't want is me vs 5,000 and coming out unscathed. To me, that breaks immersion.

Nah, not a big fan of the huge battles.

To me, that breaks immersion.

Pre-release Oblivion footage seemed to showcase some battles with more characters/creatures involved than you ever saw in the final game. I guess they scaled it down because consoles couldn't handle it. I wouldn't expect Skyrim to be much different in that regard.

I fiddled with the ` console on Oblivion and I could only have about 80-100 NPCs onscreen without taking a serious FPS hit and my PC is fairly high end. No doubt Skyrim will be more demanding than Oblivion so I think 50-60 will be the limit. But unless they have sufficient AI to deal with larger battles it would be an untidy brawl anyway, often after large battles in Oblivion people on the same team would kill each other because of any friendly fire hits they'd taken. I'd like to see some 30-a -ide battles happen in the context of the civil war. The "legendary" Battle for Bruma was a total fail, about 12 guys against some daedra. A siege would be pretty neat as well.

EDIT: Oh yeah and thats on a PC, consoles have about an eighth of the memory - you probably couldn't even have 60 corpses without it crashing.
