My biggest concern for this game

Post » Fri Mar 28, 2014 5:13 pm

What concerns me most is that they're trying to make guilds more important through game mechanics so that people interact more. You guessed it, lack of AH is the subject.

We've seen this kind of idea in other games they never usually work.

Age of Conan is a prime example where they did it with crafting, the result they lost a lot of players because of it.

Now I'm a great TES fan as well as an MMO player with over 30 years experience in gaming. I know a lot of you have lots of experience in gaming as well.

Now until I've tested it out actually in game I'm not sure if I'll be able to play this game because of the lack of AH. I guess we'll have to see.

This isn't a QQ btw it's just a concern for this game.

How many of you have similar concerns?

No to an Auction House. It's not required.

That's your biggest concern about this game? Lack of AH? Really? With such worries, you'll live long and prosper...

My biggest concern for the game is people going crazy about things that haven't and may never happen.

I got one more thought about global AH - it winds up prices and promotes gold selling by following mechanizm.

Top level gear / weapon becomes visible for all and most rich people want to buy gold and have these items - so it is perfect for gold sellers.

While with distributed market there is no need to have god items, just better items that most of players can use. So with many local AH pikes of prices are not so visible and indeed people can not have fun but watching god items possible to buy only with the help of gold sellers, not sure how big issue it will be.

I see AH do more damage to the ESO then good. Like other have said, it just leads to people wanting God Items, Gold Farmers have easier time selling stuff, it does not let people get to know each other, instead use an impersonal UI, instead of talking with real people and barter with them like in the old days.

My only concern is that we've become so indoctrinated by the traditional mmo model that players are reluctant to open their minds and try something new.

Unless this changes the mmo genre will never successfully be able to move away from the cookie-cutter wow clone model.

Auction Houses have positives and negatives about them. I think that ZOS has a vision and I think an AH is against said vision.

I too see the absence of an AH as a major problem, but agree that the refocusing of the game from an Elder Scrolls game into something that keeps the WoWankers happy may be a greater problem in the long term.

God items have nothing to do with an AH, usually the biggest sellers are actually crafting materials.

I don't think a global one would fit the game anyway, 3 faction ones would be better.

The old days of barter, might be too many people in this game for that to work well.

Gold sellers, nothing stopping them running a trade guild, they tend to be more organised than most players anyway.

Agree with the OP. Lack of a convenient trading system is going to bite zenimax in the ass.

Totally agreed. AH makes everything too convenient and automatic, too much like WoW or other [censored]. By having to manually sell things it makes more interesting because we have to act as merchants as well at the same time. :D Which makes it cool. Selling your newly earned blue items on the market in town. You get to set your own prices that seem "cool" and so on. Over the time common prices will appear for items. The people control and make the market, not single individuals as can be the case in AHs. I'm all for it. This will bring the "community" more together.

That could be true too. But I think it will work. I hope so at least lol. :D

If ever someone is looking for evidence regarding the panic humans fall into when faced with 'change' you have but to look at those that cry out against ESO's lack of a 'traditional' Auction House. It's quite disappointing. New games are about experiencing new things, and the game isn't even released yet.

I wouldn't be for a global AH. I WOULD be for a LOCAL AH. Meaning that each NPC city or large encampment would have it's own AH. That way, since players wouldn't have access to EVERY loot item or crafted item with one click, it would help to preserve the prices on a lot of things. And I'd rather not have my chat box filled with ppl spamming WTS/WTB crap all day long.

I see why some are put off by the idea of a globe mega server auction house but why not a local city only auction house.

You can limit its use/abuse in multiple ways and yet granting everyone access to a marked outside of “/zone WTS”

I will definitely use websites to trade, not going to flip from zone to zone to sell my stuff, rather have fun killing things. *grml*

I, too, would argue against a global AH, it breaks the vision and story line. Three separate faction AHs, perhaps only in the factional capital and two or three major cities would be fine. What is the possible reason for strapping AHs onto the guilds, in Cyrodil, at unknown locations that may no longer be held by that guild when you reach them after multiple ganks by PvP number-crunching machines?
