It hasn't in anything we've seen so far.

Talking to himself about random objects? Dull neutral.

Talking to person about the Vaults? Dull neutral.

Talking to his wife? Dull neutral.

Talking to a dog? Dull neutral.

Talking to a guy with an awful name? Dull neutral.

The only time in any of the footage that they've shown so far the actually even slightly starts to show emotion is when a nuclear bomb is going off.

Well to be fair, Bethesda is not infallible, but we don't have anything but the stuff from the showcase to go on when trying to gage what it's going to be like since Beth hasn't done a voiced protag before. It's an unknown, and people don't like the unknown and I understand that. That's why I'm willing to play the game first and see if Bethesda does it any better than the other games being held as examples. To me, it already seems better than, say, Mass Effect because I don't want to pull my ears off listening to either voice. So we'll see if I eat crow in November! (I really don't want to eat crow, they are one of my favorite animals)

So you're going to base the tone of the entirety of dialogue recorded for the pc, 13k+, on offhand comments about nuka cola and sugar bombs, dialogue had with a dog, an offhand conversation with his wife, a guy with a "awful name", which the majority of that conversation was glossed over, and a vault salesmen. It seems there's little actual point in debate, when you already judge a game on so little we've seen.

Well they only recorded "the most popular" names so I think difficult or odd names are going to get an "Oh it's you'!" or "Sir/Madame" type response.

We have seen a VERY small amount of dialogue and most of it revolved around your dude just coming out and discovering the world's exploded.... I'd laugh....maybe... but our character sure hasn't (yet).

Press A to Take or Press Y to Examine. If you can't take anything, I imagine pressing A will just act as Examine. There won't be any dialog saying "I shouldn't take that"... the contradicts the entire philosophy of Fall Out Duty.

That's like arguing you can't say a movie looks bad because of an unappealing trailer or poster. Besides, I'm not judging the game as a whole. I'm simply saying that I'm concerned about a design choice they've made based on the little they've shown us. I even admitted that my concern might be a case of worrying over nothing. But right now, I'm not expecting great things. I hope I'm wrong, because I'd have more fun being wrong and getting a pleasantly surprising voice over performance from the guy rather than being right and suffering through a terrible one.

What little we've heard of the performance has been dominated by dull neutral to an almost exclusive degree. True, that might not be representative of the performance as a whole, in which case it's "just" an example of awful marketing decisions regarding what parts of the game they should use to showcase the voiced protagonist. They obviously find the fact that your character has an audible voice to be a selling point, considering it capped the trailer and they talked about how it will improve the story, so it seems weird that they've presented it so badly. Best foot forward, you know?

what is with this trend of voices in video games anyway? Why can't we just go back to the late 90's and early '00's with their silent protagonists? even the cinema is too full of noise now. Back in my day we had dialog cards and a piano player and we were perfectly happy with that. I don't need some yahoo acting out the words I should be reading. How do I know he'll read those words the way I would have read them? {insert old man yells at clouds image}

This right here. Just the text is funny in my mind. The thing is, while it's funnier with my inner voice and its tone, if it were to perfectly be recreated in the game, I'm not so sure it would be as funny, either.

Text is an integral part of story-telling, and that's were my immersion and roleplay comes unaltered and to my liking when I can use my own voice. Everyone has a different way of reacting in any given moment. Maybe I wanna say a funny line, but at the same time I'm feeling pretty crap at the moment. It could still be funny, but the game shouldn't decide how I feel, especially as I'm going about it at my own pace. Rest-assured, if I deliver a humorous sarcastic line towards someone I probably hate and the voice actor is more cheerful about it, that takes me right out.

The 'dull neutral' criticisms seem a little over the top, and appear to be an attempt to start a 'board meme' or something. What did you want, over-acting? Perhaps William Shatner should have done the voices.

Some of Shepards lines turned out to be delightfully goofy, there's a good bit of solid humor in the dialog. I'm confident that BGS can do something about the problem. It sure won't be as easy as it was with written dialog, but subtle spoken humor can be just as effective.

Speaking of spoken humor, has any one picked up on the comments that some of the Mr. Handys mutter under their breath (so to speak) in F3? I hope there is more stuff like that in the dialogue for F4.

Cheshire: Exactly. Betweens Wadsworth, Sawbones and Sgt RL-3, the issue of .. AI and developinig personalities in robots was a big thing in FO3. I love the muttered dialogue

I was referring to the 'funny' writing. Bethesda isn't exactly known for 'good' writing to begin with, much less funny like op intended. I have no problem with the voiced protag because I know how easy it is to turn off.

Generally the Companions in NV had more personality in NV. However you are spot on, the Mr Handys and Mr Gutsys did not.

In regards to the OP, we've seen a fraction of precentage of dialogue. It could be as you're suggesting, and I hope it's not, as well. But what we've seen so far isn't much for formulating any hypothesis.

This is their first game with a voiced protagonist. I have faith they understand how important it is to do right.

my biggest concern is that no matter how yoou create your character how you develop him or how youn play hum in the end it doesn t matter it is not your characters story but the story og the voiced protagonist and you are just there to make sure he shoots straight

same like mass effect no matter how you xreate him or play him in the end it is shepards story and not yours same with the witcher in the end it is geralds story and not yours , and only thing you as a player need to do is watch a endless parade of cinematic cutscenes

this is not what a openworld rpg should be
