Biggest disappointment in the game?

Post » Mon May 18, 2009 7:52 pm

This. I whole heartedly agree...Except the part about it being boring. That could also be because I don't play it as often or as long as I did with Fallout 3 and Oblivion, which I could play all day long for days on end and not get bored...I'd like to get those days back.

well its not a boring game, as games go its at the top for me still, its just that after playing it for 2 months, its doesn't have enough random type stuff, no patrols and just a lack of dungeons to explore, setting aside the metro tunnels, FO3 had loads of buildings to fight in and they were big building complexes, you know that, so it doens't have enough to keep me interested at higher levels, its ok starting out, the quests are really good i think, even though it doesn't have the large buildings to explore, if they added patrols from the various factions and put in some other random type events, so its not so predictable it would add new life to the game, i ain't gonna buy any more dlcs if they are like dead money, i want a dlc that adds content to the base map. cause thats where the game is lacking. i do thnik bethesda is much better at dungeons, enemies to fight, and random encounters than obsidian is, but obsidian is awesome at a story, quests, dialogue, npcs, they did make a good game, its just i played FO3 and oblivion for years so i was expecting more in certains of the game.

obsidian dropped the ball worse with new vegas, very very few buildings to explore and fight in, no enemy patrols for the various factions, most of the humans enemies "if you can find any" are using pool ques, varmit rifles, service rifles and pistols, no random events on the map happen at all, even with wild wasteland perk not much happens, all the factions are static, the only place you find em is at outposts or bases, way too predictable, once you go by an area once, you've pretty much seen all that area has to offer, if you do find some ceasers legion somewhere, they are usuaully just standing in one spot, so i guess i like bethesda games better than obsidian games.

Not enough random encounters that's about all.

The bugs were the biggest disappointment. Bethesda still hasn't fixed the freezing as far as I'm aware.

I was slightly disappointed that there weren't more traits in the game-though I can't say I was by Wild Wasteland, as I haven't tried it out yet.

Aside from that? I really love the game.

Well, thanks to mods. I've nearly got everything I need.
But there is one thing that really saddens me.
Adoring fan. :(

Wild wasteland, there should be alot more encounters.

The legion had waaay too little quests, locations, and well everything.
I hated how things like "the white wash", "that lucky old sun", and "there stands the grass" didnt effect the ending, where the misfits did...

These mostly. And enemy AI.

Bigger centralised Las Vegas with less desert/outer suburbs with tons of Casino & Hotel ruins/dungeon crawl to explore & loot.

I was mostly disappointed by the fairly small amount of companions. I wanted a Mr House companion. Maybe Victor, or perhaps even a Securitron with the face and voice of House as seen at the ending of the House run.
Also I wanted to take more than one companion with me, and I wanted a Legion companion.

And ?
Lets see fallout 3 had raiders with low tier weapons. They are the fiends.
You how the enclave in PA and BoS, neither are big factions in this game, so settle for veteran rangers with AM rifles.
talon company had mediaum items, nothing special, but not bad. Those are the ncr.

Like the BoS in 3, and the enclave camps. No change.

Major fpd slowdown when a few people are in a firefight. Probably because of the particles that cause the slowdowns.

Biggest disappointment:

That once again the modding community is having to fix another buggy game to make FNV into the game it should have been upon release. I just don't get the feeling that the Fallout series is being treated w/ the respect it deserves with regards to its well developed mythos and devoted fan base. Seems like it was bought out merely to finance future TES games by slapping together some hit or miss bits & pieces of story canon, building it on an old buggy gaming engine w/ some "new" code thrown in, and using the Fallout fan base as post release beta testers. :sadvaultboy:

Anyway, I'm very excited the FWE team is putting together http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1151204-wipztrailer-project-nevada/. They're the reason why I kept playing FO3 and enjoyed it in spite of the terrible plot/story/characters. If/when the DLCs are released, the full story arc of New Vegas can be enjoyed to its fullest thanks to the FWE/PN modders.

Oh man was I disappointed when I discovered that. Even more so when I tested it to see if it even extended stealth boy duration (it doesn't).

The only other thing that disappointed me was the inconsistent availability of weapon mods. I can understand randomness with the little nobody merchants, but when I go to Gun Runners they should have every Gun weapon mod I want. This was (is) the most disappointing thing about the game. For me.

This. My main character has been 30th level for a long time. Still haven't seen the scope mod for the trail carbine or brushgun. He was 28th before the scope for the hunting rifle showed up.

[censored] Cazadors. [censored].

Oh, and a lack of stuff that Fallout 3 had. Random encounters, exploring, good side quests, etc. Good game, but I've got bored off it. Right now I'm not playing any Fallout games. :[

AND [censored] PINGPONGING QUESTS. "Go talk to this guy. Then talk to this guy. Then tell the guy you just talked to, to go talk so this guy. Then go talk to that guy. Then tell him to go give you some caps. Then return to deliver the caps, and get some caps for the caps that you just delivered."

That too. Those would be more bearable of something happened traveling between these guys, but the world is just empty

You know, i think this game would work better if the map was like in Dragon Age or classic Fallouts. Only towns and "Dungeons" are locations, traveling between them happens in a map with occasional encounters with hostile or friendlies. This sandbox is missing toys :D

This was a huge disappointment for me as well. After all the experience that should have been gained with chasing and fixing Gamebryo bugs in Fallout 3, I was really expecting a much stabler, more polished release with NV. I haven't had nearly the problems many people had with the game, but the bugs were still infuriating.

Other than that, I have to admit that the map disappointed me as well. I understand, and appreciate, the need to cut back on the ridiculous amounts of valuable loot just laying around that you got with vanilla FO3, but I think Obsidian went too far in the other direction. Way too many utterly pointless locations with nothing at all; even a few worthless artifacts or abandoned notes giving some back story to some of these places would have been very welcome.

This... the fact that you almost HAVE to use mods to fix bugs in the game, add more challeging enemies, give the pc reasons to go to some empty places that are no more than a marker on the map, add more interesting items and loot, etc.

Sorta the same thing happened to me with my latest character except I still haven't found a hunting rifle scope (just hit level 34).

You can get past this problem by saving in front of a merchant, and quitting the game. Now everytime you restart the game and load that save he should have new inventory and fresh caps, repeat until you get what you need :D

And for PC players, the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39490 mod to the rescue!
