Biggest disappointment in the game?

Post » Tue May 19, 2009 7:19 am

This... the fact that you almost HAVE to use mods to fix bugs in the game,

This is my biggest disappointment. I was excited for this game and bought it for the PS3. I expected some bugs but the constant crashing was awful. I had wanted to learn to mod since Oblivion but had never done it. Modding was supposed to be for fun and extras, not to make the game playable. I got the PC version and learned to mod and now my two biggest problems (Broken Boone and Broken Gobi) are fixed again and I can enjoy the game. I changed some settings on the PC and don't crash nearly as often as the PS3 version does.

For a positive note, my favorite things about the game are the companions and some very compelling writing.

Please...another patch is needed.

NCR bias.
No Legion companion. (Specific like Boone.)
Skills still being cut down to 13..
Big Guns removal.
SPECIAL is still crap, an improvement over FO3's, but still crap when compared to how it used to be.
Traits are crap. (Where's Skilled at?)
Challenge in the game is found by selfnerfing... Again...

There's been no word, so i'd expect the only patches that are coming will be for DLC preparation. Nothing new, Bethesda's patches are few and break more than they fix

Im glad that is not like Fallout 3,

right atmosphere (no green tint) and fetch quest (because I got tired of senseless killing like Fallout 3), like the old Fallouts

WE NEED THE MAP NOD SYSTEM BACK!!!!!!

Turn Based again plox

That isn't not post-nuclear.

I suppose that you only played Fallout 3

how the NCR are way too easy to side with, unless you know what you're doing, it takes a while before you find a legion camp and every follower seems to hate them, i kinda get the feeling they don't want you to join the legion

The [censored] "fast travel" points.....

Seriously, I have to fast travel to OUTSIDE of every gate, so it's Fast Travel to OUTSIDE
the place I want to be, wait for a load screen to fast travel there, walk two inches forward to ENTER the place and wait for Another Load screen.

So if I want to "Fast Travel" to the Tops Casino, I have to Fast Travel to the North Freeside Gate
1 Loading screen, Enter the Gate, 2 Loading screens, walk to the strip where the Kings are 3. Loading Screens,
Enter the Strip 4 loading screens, walk past the Gemorrah and Enter the southern strip 5 Loading screen to get to the Tops Casino.

WTF?

I want to 'fast travel" to Crimson Caravan.
1. Loading screen, now I'm standing in front of the gate, I walk forward 2 inches to enter the gate. 2 loading screens.

This http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35467 will move most of the annoying multiple load-screen markers to more convenient locations, If you're playing on a pc.

The lack of punch from combat skills (especially the soft requirements) and the generally low difficulty.

That there was an ending that prevented you from playing further after it.
Too little stuff to do outside quests, and too little quests.
Damn vaults, I still hate to enter them.

That you can have a clear shot on a target outside of VATS, but once you use it, you unload your entire AP pool shooting into a low barrier or something.

[censored] Cazadors. [censored].

Oh, and a lack of stuff that Fallout 3 had. Random encounters, exploring, good side quests, etc. Good game, but I've got bored off it. Right now I'm not playing any Fallout games. :[

AND [censored] PINGPONGING QUESTS. "Go talk to this guy. Then talk to this guy. Then tell the guy you just talked to, to go talk so this guy. Then go talk to that guy. Then tell him to go give you some caps. Then return to deliver the caps, and get some caps for the caps that you just delivered."

Yeah, this sums it up for me - the repetitive fetch quests. I know we're supposed to be a courier, but even so...

I read a review online ages ago (can't remember where) that said Fallout New Vegas was a RPG/quest driven game created on an open-world exploration engine. I can see this, and maybe this is why Fallout 3 worked so well - you can wander off in any direction you like straight out of Vault 101. In New Vegas you pretty much have to follow the main highway anti-clockwise, or be ripped apart by deathclaws. So the result is a lot of travelling between locations, with little happening in between, to carry out various quest tasks.

There is a huge NCR bias, I agree. But at least you have the option of joining the enemy this time. And though I'm no Legion fan, the lack of a legionary companion is a strange omission. I'm not really disappointed about this last bit, I just find it a bit puzzling.

Lack of Legion interactivity early on, NCR Bias, all companions are opinionated in some way against them.
Oh, and the fact of how oddly the world was done. Houses have their own loading screen, some vaults are all one continous row, some require multiple loading screens, the strip is VERY SMALL but is THREE loading screens, Freeside, Westside, and North Vegas did -not- need to be instanced. Some areas that should have been instanced weren't.

Oh, and they didn't fix Vault doors or Vault jumpsuit designs....

atleast they retconned Enclave's Fallout 3 armor.

1. Load screens: so annoying that on many missions I am spending 5 minutes running around and 10 minutes loading each place

2. NCR veteran armor: they advertised it as something cool and easily obtainable when it is hard for a person to get it without making a lot of people hostile

The whole mainstory was boring. And there was not much to see in Mojave. AS in FO3 you can walk arond Capitol for hours and all wheys find something new, but in New Vegas just couple hours and you have seen everything.

Since I started out with FO3 and enjoyed the game immensly, and find FONV to be an improvement in nearly every category, there is very little to be disappointed about. I can think of only two things.

1. The hairstyle issue you touched on. I thought they svcked in FO3 so they double svck the 2nd time around.

2. My idiot dog knocked my xbox off the table and circular grooved my disc early in my 2nd playthrough (tried to go back to FO3 but now find it intolerable after being spoiled).

Got another one, how about, in the next Fallout game, you allow every single weapon in the game to be used by different generic NPC's?
I hate that some weapons can and will only be used by the PC.

That annoyed me too. Made all locations in Freeside a pain. Getting to The Silver Rush was anything but direct.

The large map, that really wasn't "that" large and invisible walls to stop you in mid climb were a disappointment. The Strip didn't interest me much at all. Cool looking and large interiors, but without the suspense and feel of a mutant or ghoul infested large building.

That the strip was about as lively as my tongue is long and forked a catatonic cat in a gin and tonic.
Lots of big neon lights, knock, knock, anyone there, no on at home.
You could be cheap and blame it on the engine, but I've played games previously from years ago with as many if not more named NPC's just on a single street.
That and random No Names had the chance to water spout varied dialogue.
Oh Sigil were forth out thou, alas I new you well.

I going to put my 2 bob here.
No major inter faction fighting. For example that major fight in front of Capitol building.
No settlement taken over by raiders/fiends. For example Fairfax.
No fridge in the middle of no-where.
No scary buildings to explore.
No DLC for PC.
No random encounters.

Edit:
NPC's only uses one type of ammo.
