Oh, and a lack of stuff that Fallout 3 had. Random encounters, exploring, good side quests, etc. Good game, but I've got bored off it. Right now I'm not playing any Fallout games. :[
AND [censored] PINGPONGING QUESTS. "Go talk to this guy. Then talk to this guy. Then tell the guy you just talked to, to go talk so this guy. Then go talk to that guy. Then tell him to go give you some caps. Then return to deliver the caps, and get some caps for the caps that you just delivered."
Yeah, this sums it up for me - the repetitive fetch quests. I know we're supposed to be a courier, but even so...
I read a review online ages ago (can't remember where) that said Fallout New Vegas was a RPG/quest driven game created on an open-world exploration engine. I can see this, and maybe this is why Fallout 3 worked so well - you can wander off in any direction you like straight out of Vault 101. In New Vegas you pretty much have to follow the main highway anti-clockwise, or be ripped apart by deathclaws. So the result is a lot of travelling between locations, with little happening in between, to carry out various quest tasks.
There is a huge NCR bias, I agree. But at least you have the option of joining the enemy this time. And though I'm no Legion fan, the lack of a legionary companion is a strange omission. I'm not really disappointed about this last bit, I just find it a bit puzzling.
