The lack of punch from combat skills (especially the soft requirements) and the generally low difficulty.

This is an Obsidian game. They have a bad track record for making really easy games.

Exploration was lame. The city of New Vegas was a let down. BoS were disappointing. And the beginning of the main quest line is long and boring.

Oh and as zodaex said, Steam, complicated things more than it should have. So please exclude it next time. They made getting the veteran armor practically impossible for an NCR fan.
Spoiler
Battle at Hoover Dam was... well alittle of let down. Less a battle more of a skirmish.
Lack of interesting settlements. Search Light disappointed me to many lengths. Lack of NCR v Legion skirmishes. Camp McCarren inside was dark as hell. I kinda hate how Rex is part robot, makes it less able to bond with him via RP. hardcoe was more of a burden than challenging. Companions go unconscious rather than die, that was stupid, which kinda forced me to play hardcoe which is why it pisses me off. New Vegas being divided by giant gates into little sections (what were the thinking?). Loading screens got way to repetitive. Casinos were too, empty. Come Fly With Me is the worst quest in the world after playing it two or more times. Creating new characters seemed like a burden to me, rather than a chance to try something else. It seemed like all the fighting happened AFTER you start playing. Most of the quests seemed to go on, back and forth, Venture! and Come Fly with Me were extremely notable for this. Seemed like all the cool stuff was happening out of the player's reach. The wasteland sure lived up to its name this time, here is something cool, after an hour of walking oh here is something else cool. There were a bunch of pointless locations, like the Devs wanted to fill in the empty space of nothing and dust with a shack or two. They made getting a "player home", a burden. Invisible walls everywhere you turn got really repetitive: "Hey I think I might climb this short hill Bumps into air, damn well I guess I half to drag my ass for half a mile til I can find a path that leads up to the top of this, oh wait the enemy controls it, kinda defeats the purpose of going up there now." You could never really "join" the factions the game proposed, and even if you did, they made you this Spec Op beast who magically wins the war for them, permitting you can even call what was going on a war, seemed like the real war happened before you got shot. People call FO3 a sandbox, well this game really is a sandbox. They basically made it so you could talk your way to wining the game. The military was everywhere, I can accept this IF THEY DID ANYTHING. Novac was disappointing.
Spoiler
Nelson looked like it would be a cool settlement, if it wasn't burned to the ground. Which brings me back to my point where all the cool [censored] happened before you could even physically play the game.
the Lucky 38, probably the coolest casino every, lacked people, wow. Creating your character's face svcked. Your character looked the complete opposite of what you made.

Another disappointment, I kinda hated how they just bumped into each other.

My biggest disappointment is the new system in regards to Damage Threshold and it's effects. At first, I actually like this system compared to FO3. In Fallout 3, things always hurt you and it depended on how much Damage Resistance you had. This somewhat meant that whenever you were outnumbered, you were always going to take damage regardless of what was attacking you, whether that be a Super Sledge or a Radroach bite. So in New Vegas, at least there is some comfort in not getting belittled by weak weapons / enemies.

However, as I've changed my playing habits from armor to clothing, I kinda realized how much the game relies on Damage Threshold for balance in terms of damage taken. That kind of dependency can get players into thinking that their options are limited. While I can understand the want for that, there has to be a line drawn where DT isn't the be-all / end-all of combat damage... and that's where Damage Resistance comes in. If Obsidian could of incorporated both and balanced the two, then I'm sure there would be more viable options, based on both player choice and type of enemy. I'm not disappointed that a mere sheet of clothing isn't as durable as a plate of metal on your chest; I am in that the plate of metal has the illusion of having to be constantly upgraded.

I guess this for my own selfish reasons, seeing how I've grown to playing with zero DT and DR, but I'm sure that while clothing shouldn't have a DT rating, 1 or 2 at most, it could of been compensated by at least a DR rating. I should probably do this myself, being on PC, but hey, I'll do it when I feel like it.

Exploration was lame. The city of New Vegas was a let down.

I waited a long time to even go into The Strip, because it really didn't interest me at all. A civilized area with little combat, some interesting buildings, and a lot of walking back and forth with.....little to do other than the tedious errands. But oh wow, I'd get to whip out my concealed pistol and easily defeat anyone who dared to cross me.

Invisible walls everywhere you turn got really repetitive: "Hey I think I might climb this short hill Bumps into air, damn well I guess I half to drag my ass for half a mile til I can find a path that leads up to the top of this, oh wait the enemy controls it, kinda defeats the purpose of going up there now."

Been there done that. Walking up, walking up...opps....sliding down, sliding down. Find another way..until...sliding down, sliding down....and ending up where I started in the first place. Eventually finding the way to the top and not even having anything really worth the extended hke.

Overall, I enjoyed most of the game, but other than the cooler weapons and mods, and better companion interface, I found myself getting bored with NV long before I ever did with Fallout 3.

Same, I mean I was starting to get back into with mods but no use. I love the originals, just not this game. it is a great game, loved it for all its worth but it just has to many flaws for me to continue it, unlike 3. :( Maybe one day...

The strip was a massive letdown in the terms of no shops and constant [censored] loading screens.

Was it necessary to make The strip into THREE parts?

The game engine can't handle many characters at one place very well along with the fancy lightning and stuff, so they had to split it up for performance issues.
If only they had added map points at each gate, or at least at, say, the embassy and the Lucky 38.

Actually a small petty thing like no new hairstyles was the ONE THING that actually did majorly disappoint me.

Ah the tough life of a console gamer.

agreed the Character Creation was disappointing along with the new running animations terrible

First/3rd person perspective.

I miss the good ol' isometric turnbased.
I really hope that FO4 allows for us to have that instead of some new ___ ___ ______ crap.

probably a topic for another thread, but I don't think isometric turn based is going to be a $$$ for Obsidian/Beth.

I'd love to see it though, I think doing something like real time isometric combat could be interesting as well.

On topic:

I miss random encounters and not being able to play DLC. :cryvaultboy:

Well, it would be nice to have it as an optional gameplay, course, they'd basically have to do two different games for that since real time damage and turn-based damage ain't exactly compatible.

I'd like to add the fact that the fast travel spots were always outside of the place you wanted to go

combine this with long loading screens and it gets irritating

biggest disappointments

inviso walls in the stupidest areas.

nothing changes. For instance; Novac. was told to get rid of some ghouls in REPCONN Test Site, because the towns needed it or everyone would leave.
well nothing changed after I got rid of ghouls, hmmm wonder why, because the dam ghouls outside respawned!!! (for me they have)

no real good ending. the people of the waste get screwed no matter what. (remember what yes MAN said at end?)

not enough explorable buildings.

the biggest disappointment in the game was losing 4 bobby pins on a very hard lock only to find 2 cups and a wrench. If your going to have things locked in a hard or very hard lock then at least put something in them that is worth a crap.

I do miss those turn based games. I remember having a blast with the old X-Com series. I wouldn't bet on any turn-based games making a comeback though. Too bad they couldn't release some of those old classics for the console gaming systems.

:flame: the wild wasteland wasn't wild enough. I think that was the only thing i was sad about really (plus it kinda got rid of a certain gun i like for a different gun  )
edit: scratch that also i wanted atleast height change for the charactar creation. You get a ton of people of different heights and you always get the same basic height no matter what

Regarding the safes: been there done that. And it's nothing new either, in Oblivion i once opened a very hard locked chest and found 8 gold inside :banghead: Atleast in Oblivion you didn't need 100 skill to open VH locks.

I was hoping for a lot more character customization. (i.e. hairstyles, faces, and more facial hair (most of them look the same)

Also, more non-faction armor, most of the non-faction i found really unappealing, especially the Mark II Combat Armor, I would love to be able to wear NCR Combat armor with having to worry about other factions, also not having to worry about my NCR faction being ruined because Bethesda hasn't fixed the reputation problem.

There just a lot of bugs, and I know some of them have been patched, there are some other (like the faction armor reputation problem) would get fixed.

But the main thing i was dissapointed is the main story, I didnt like the fact that I would have to play the game four times just to get the full experience of the game, I would've preferred a longer, main quest based around one thing, just like in fallout 3, accompanied with the hours of side quests and other non sense.

Hopefully, they will make another fallout though.
I absolutely love Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
