Biggest Fears

Post » Thu Apr 22, 2010 8:59 pm

That most of the land will be a static, unchanging buildup of snow.

This, also how will argonians survive the the harsh enviornment assuming like most all reptiles I'm aware of are cold blooded.

My biggest fear I'm sure many would say is quite irrational but I can't seem to shake it. It's that in the change from the old Gamebryo engine to the new improved one, some aspect of the charm or charisma from Morrowind and Oblivion will be lost, and Skyrim will come across as feeling like a totally different kind of game than the first two.

Well I wasnt worried about this but now I am

That you start off as a prisoner AGAIN

The Graphics "Improvement" will just be everything looking darker

Too much snowy wasteland aspects and no forests or swamps

not being able to ride the dragons. =)

If you dont start out as a prisoner then it cant be a true ES game

I agree with you on the snow

You really want to ride the dragons?

Without a doubt level scaling

This!

But there is no chance of it. From all the anger from fans, and from critics alike. They would be fools to reintroduce level scaling to the level of Oblivions.

My greatest fear is that Skyrim will not even come close to the gameplay of Oblivion with FCOM and a good magicka overhaul such as LAME.

My biggest fear is that Bethesda hasn't payed attention to what we've said here on the forums. While there have been a few horrible ideas, many good ones have been here as well.
Looking at the polls are usually the best way to easily see this. I have, and I hope Bethesda have or will too.

that it was made for console and then ported to pc and we are stuck with old graphics.
also that it will have oblivions level of brightness, and that brightness will reflect off the snow and burn my retina out.

Biggest Fears?

Less depth than oblivion. (I am hoping for the depth of Morowind)

Dumbed down graphics for multiplatform. (ALA Oblivions Lighting System)

I want them to take advantage of the PC, like the did with morrowind.

I want
DX11 Tesselation
Volumetric Lighting, Fog, Ect.
Cloth Physics
Water Physics
High Res Textures
High Res Reflections on water.

Take advantage of hardware that is over a gen beyond what the consoles have. I love playing Elder Scrolls on my Xbox's, in fact I bought both Morrowind and Oblivion on the Xbox before I bought the PC versions, even though I had a Rig to run them. But there is no reason they can't take advantage of PC hardware, and just disable some features for the console versions. Rather than giving high end PC users the same effects and low res textures that 6 year old hardware is getting.

Although judging by Fallout and New Vegas, they don't seem to keen on improving the PC graphics above the standard Higher Resolution, AA+AF. Textures and effects are generally the exact same as consoles. Which was disappointing then, and is my biggest fear with Skyrim.

That we get dice roll to hit chance again.

that they decide to leave out horses and not give us any form of transportation...

hey they did it with fallout (not even a mutated horse), so don't rule it out no matter how stupid it would be...

1: bad level scaling

2: buggy, unoptimized engine (my good pc struggled to put new vegas on high)

3: voice acting

4:no mods

5: evil dlc

6: lack of spears and crossbows, the inclusion of guns

7: terrible graphics, bad particle effects, although fallout has given me hope

8: that people were successfull in getting bethesda to scrap fast travel, only to find that the gameworld is over 600 miles squared.

If you want DX11, I hope you plan on upgrading that card..

I too am for newer graphics to take advantage of PCs, but what I'd really like is for the game to be fully optimized for the PC. I don't want it to get sluggish after adjusting just a few settings.

Oh I really hope there is no DX11, maybe DX10, but I am fine with DX9. Having great graphics is awesome, but there are some graphical features that are just unnecessary. With just a little work the developers can create unbelievable graphics with DX9;

I've been playing Metro 2033, and damn, that game has good graphics, but when I change DX9 to DX10 I experience nothing but framerate drops, it doesn't improve it in a big way, just small stuff you usually don't notice... Stick with DX9 for now, DX10 needs to be tweaked, even DX10 Graphic Cards can't handle it so well. And most PC gamers don't mind the small stuff DirectX 10 and 11 adds.

Oh, I forgot to say: Gameplay over graphics...

That it ends up having a mediocre plot along the lines of Oblivions.
I want to feel pulled in this time.

This. The whole dragon thing kinda worries me.
I know that they're not unheard of in the elder scrolls, but just try to imagine one original plot involving dragons. It's all done before. :P

So they should hold back the potential of Skyrim because you're afraid to upgrade? You do realize that most games that support DX11 also support DX10 and DX9 as well, right?
