Binoculars - Will they come back and how?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 5:38 am

Though I loved the idea of the binoculars in FONV, I thought they were implemented badly. Early on until you got a scoped riffle they had some use and if you were lucky you would have picked up a scope for the varmint riffle before you left Goodsprings which as far as I could tell had the same magnification. So my feeling is that they should have been a piece of apparel instead of a weapon. Now if they were equipped as a piece of apparel and you had your weapon holstered and you right clicked to zoom instead of the short zoom you would get the zoom from the binoculars instead. You could take that one step farther and have the binoculars showing on the chest of the character in third person.

With the suspected layered clothing for FO4 I think this work well.

I love the idea. I agree 100% I liked it in NV but it was implemented so bad after my first play through with them I never used them again. They need more zoom as well.

I'd rather have a long distance scope...

It would be cool if they had modifications to them that allowed us to tag enemies and such. That would give some use.

Would be nice if they had a stronger magnification than rifle scopes, otherwise they aren't really useful.

Never used them because I found them useless and you couldn't use them with out putting your gun away.

Would prefer the necessity of a rangefinder myself for sniper builds. Neither Bethesda nor id really has experience with that time of shooting format unfortunately. So many variables would make it counter-productive to developing that in studio.

Shame though. the new weapon mod system could make it really fun.

If they don't include binoculars (which I'm sure will make the cut) simply use a scoped weapon or your trusty pokedex.

I loved the concept in New Vegas, and didn't even mind having to equip them as a weapon. It was the low power magnification that let them down.

If you could get extra game play elements out of it, that would be nice too; displaying target stats, tagging them, etc.

The idea of not including them because you can simply use a scope instead is a no-go for me. While I tend to play sneaky sniper builds it would be very helpful for those that don't to have binoculars. I can imagine myself playing with a pistol and a shotgun and sitting high on a ledge scoping out a strong point before deciding how to enter and clear it, for example. Why would I carry an extra rifle that is heavy, cumbersome, and never used instead of a light, practical alternative?

You also start out with them if you bought the couriers stash.

I would love binoculars if they actually worked, in NV they barely enlarged anything, a scoped rifle was just better overall.

I'm not sure what I would like to add as a benefit to binoculars, but they definately need to be better if they're gonna be worth using.

Nailed it I think. I really like Necrovamp's tag idea as well. Give them some functionality!

I didn't care for the binoculars in New Vegas. If they had better zoom that the ones in New Vegas and maybe a target locator like Boone's companion perk, I could definitely see myself using a pair of binoculars.
