EA BioWare Working On Dragon Age 3

In fact, to cater to every need, you can also pursue relationships with items of clothing, weaponry or furniture.

Finally, a game for people attracted to inanimate objects :goodjob:

But seriously, they've only said they're working on it, not that it will be released next year.

Of course if they do say that i'll eat my words and enjoy it!

EA needs to learn that you can't churn out RPGs like Madden sequels.

You got that right. If they pull the same crap with DA 3 like they did with DA2, I'll be done getting any new Dragon Age games and just sticking with Origins.

I absolutely love DA O and imo DA II is not that bad. I'll happily give it a 7.5 or an 8 out of 10, then again I'd give DA O a 9 out of 10. The thing is they need to stop rushing games and listening to whatever EA says :stare:

Silly, silly Bioware.

Three Dragon Age games in the time Bethesda have produced one Elder Scrolls game?

Maybe this is why your RPGs will never be as good.

 Exactly. I mean, I still think Bioware is great, personally if it wasn't for EA pushing them their games could be way better (and I already consider their games very good).

I haven't even played DA2 yet....

On that thought, I don't know if I ever will. Played the demo, and it was absolutely terrible. My thoughts literally were, "Wait, is this Dragon Age? What the hell is going on... "

So yeah.

Way to go Bioware. DA:O was an awesome game, a promising start to an awesome new series. Guess what now? IT'S CRAP.

KOTOR, Mass Effect and Dragon Age Origins where great games, just a different style. The reason Bioware has fallen would be EA and other poor choices.

I shudder to think how it could be worse than DA2, but we are talking about EA here.

I used to hate EA for killing off Origin, but I'd hate to see them destroy the Ultima franchise like they seem to be destroying the DA franchise. I thought DA:O was ok, in that it was right on the edge of being acceptable in terms of free action. DA2 had gone too far for me, and if the trend continues in that direction, they are going to end up with a 15 hour console game "With elements of roleplay".

Excuse me? What does a random insult to consoles have to do with Dragon Age? Tread wisely, for this console-loving Baldur's Gate fan has a speech ready if you dare to even imply I, as a console player, condone what EA's done.

Our console-exclusive, JRPGs play out very similarly to KotOR and Origins, for example, and have been for quite a while. BioWare's stance with Origins is a very well-known to those of us in the console-playing RPG crowd, and yes, I am very ticked off. Don't you even dare insinuate that I approve of this direction or push for it. Console game? Pretentious much?

I'm totally loving this. It's going to be hilarious. First, a bunch of folks who loved Baldur's Gate II got peeved about Dragon Age: Origins, then a bunch of folks who loved Origins got peeved about Dragon Age 2, and now a bunch of folks who loved Dragon Age 2 are going to get peeved about Dragon Age 3. This thing is, it doesn't make a bit of difference, guys, for every person who turns their nose up in elitism at the changes the BiowEAr makes, two people new to the genre will take their place. Even if the sales don't break Origins, the frequency at which they're releasing products will ensure more profit than putting out good games ever could.

Rage all you want; this is the wave of the future.

I find myself wondering though if it will be worth it for EABioware. The people who bought [and preordered] their earlier games like Baldur's Gate, NWN, Shadows, Hordes et. al., were a stable fan-base. We hung around and waited until the games were, for the most part, done. People built mods and persistent worlds with their toolkit. Now they lost quite a few of that stable fan-base with DA2. The new people seem to be there for teh shiney, hot-rod-samurai, fight like a SPARTAN, push-button AWESOME, exploding bloody gibs everywhere excitement. There were people a week after release that were demanding new story dlc because they were bored. A week after release I was still playing through Origins. And promptly made a new character and started over when I finished it the first time. People don't seem to be getting the same type of replayability out of DA2. If EABioware can't keep the interest of the new players, it doesn't matter how much shovelware they throw out the door; people aren't going to buy. Time will tell, I guess. I know that, although I played through DA2, I didn't buy it; my brother bought a copy. He lost interest before act 2. I borrowed it, played it, and had to force myself to finish it. My brother probably will never bother to pick it up again to finish it. He won't bother with DA3. Unless they change a lot of things that I didn't like in DA2, I won't be bothering either.

Do you think BioWare's finished, as far as capturing the interest of its older fanbase goes, then? The modern gaming industry is probably too young to find examples of what I'm about to ask for, but have any gaming companies done what BioWare's doing and then went back and tried to fully and whole-heartedly appease those that were disappointed? In other words, do you believe we will ever see BioWare revert to their older style... or at the very least revert to past levels of quality (the copy and paste complaint about DA II really puts me off)?

Honestly, yes. They are EA BioWare now and it's said to say, but they are dead to me and many of their older fans. They aren't going back to appease the older fans. Those days are long gone and the days of DA2 quality games is what the future holds for that company. BioWare is dead. They are EA BioWare and things will never be the same.

To the older style? As in back during Baldur's Gate 2? Most definitely not. As for reverting back to DAO quality...who knows? If they're hiring environment artists for DA3, as the Tweet indicates, then maybe it means they plan on addressing the copy-paste levels.

Somewhat agreed. I don't exactly carry any sort of romantic vision of Bioware. It's easy to blame EA for all of DA2's problems, and they most definitely did have a hand in some of them, namely in the ridiculously small deadline they set. But I also blame the incompetence of the Dragon Age team and especially its lead designer, Laidlaw.

I agree completely. I like Bioware they made good games, KOTOR was awesome, Mass Effect is in my top 5 all time favorite games, Origins was a fun game to play, it was hard to play at 1st but is still a great game, Mass Effect 2 was still good I didn't agree with some design decisions but they still made a great game and I was able to overlook the loss of some RPG elements but DA2 was a disastor. I liked it at 1st but then I began to see the flaws with the game and then when I began to hear about the Attack speed bug I'm like "Yeah I"m done with this game". I really hope DA3 recaptures what made Origins great or else I'll be passing on getting DA3.

And no wonder. It's a poor dungeon-crawler, which even Dungeon Siege 3 will blow out of the water, a poor action-RPG hybrid which Witcher 2 is currently blowing out of the water, AND a piss-poor story-based RPG, what with how badly gameplay meshes with the storyline (as in, it doesn't) and the severely disjointed plot.

Yeah, but the hero needs to be set on his journey.

I'm waiting for the price to drop even further before buying DA 2. I hope they won't rush DA 3 though.

I think Netherrealm Studios did this with Mortal Kombat 9. It brought back everything that made the originals so great after years of rushed and mediocre games. They actually listened to their fans on twitter and the forums, they put in little easter eggs like the hidden fights that show they care about it, they returned to a 2D fighting style instead of a 3D fighting style, and they actually encourage criticism on the forums to see what they can improve on which leads to actually intelligent discussions on their forums. In fact, MK9 actually reached one million sales in 3 weeks and that didn't include any of the special editions, just the regular game itself. They showed how they went back to appeal to the fans and made a great game that attracts both long-time fans and newcomers to the fray.

Dragon Age 2 on the other hand shows all the signs of what NOT to do with your series. They reused the same environments again and again, they removed all sense of roleplaying that you could possibly have in order to streamline you into the character EABioware wants you to be instead of how you want to be, the companions are less interesting overall since you don't learn as much about them or their motivations, and Inon Zur stated the game itself was rushed. I even saw how all the glitches and bugs were on a file called README which basically showed EVERY bug in the entire game which included nearly 100 of them!! EABioware knew about the game breaking bugs yet chose to release it as is. The company showed they only care about money since they packaged ME2 if you bought DA2 and they released countless amounts of DLC (look at this link and see how this is only DAY ONE DLC!!!http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Downloadable_content_(Dragon_Age_II)) and they said the only reason they made the LI's bisixual is because it was cheaper. That showed they only care about money and not about the fans which shows in the BUTTON AWESOME LOLZ fast combat with ludicrous gibs, instant teleporting enemies, nightmare mode which only makes the enemies damage sponges instead of actually making me think tactically, and no descriptions for items like "Ring" or "Amulet" makes this one of the worst games I've ever played. Finally, the devs on the social site are some of the worst devs I've ever met. They run the site like a totalitarian state, anyone who shows even so much as a hint of dislike to DA2 is perma-banned, they perma-ban you without so much as a warning, and they only allow people to praise them as the supposed divine beings they are. This showed when a forum user tried to report a spam thread where a troll was basically stating the anyone who criticized DA2 was a [censored] troll since DA2 was the best game ever. When other threads that basically were the same but instead criticized DA2 they were immediately closed but when a spam thread insulted DA2 haters yet praised DA2, the dev said it wasn't spam and to "svck it up, princess." Do I even need to go into detail about how rude and bad this looks on the company itself. Shame since I've been playing their games since Baldur's Gate 1 but now I'm ashamed to have even liked that company. The death of Bioware is a shame but at least there are companies like CD Projeckt who actually care about the fans.
