Birthsigns...

I came across a comment that said there would not be any birthsigns and I wonder if that have been confirmed. Thanks.

We don't know yet. Hopefully they stay in because there aren't 50 perks. You start at level 1, and get one every time you level up until you get to 50, then there are no more perks. Therefore you can only get 49 perks so Birthsigns (even if they are really just a starting perk) would be a nice way to bring it to 50.

The game informer has this....

Finally, pressing up in the compass menu turns your gaze up toward the heavens. In previous games, astrology played a large role in character creation. Though Skyrim abandons the class structure in favor of a "you are what you play" philosophy, Bethesda is preserving the player’s ties to star signs.

Three prominent nebulae dominate the Skyrim heavens – the thief, the warrior, and the mage. Each of these represents one of the three master skill sets. Each nebula houses six constellations, each of which represents a skill. As in Oblivion, every player starts out with the ability to use all 18 skills – any player can use a two-handed weapon, try alchemy, or cast a destruction spell (provided you find or purchase one). As you use these skills in Skyrim, they will level up and contribute to driving your character's overall level higher.

Every time players rank up their overall level, they can choose a supplemental perk ability for one of the 18 skills. For instance, if you fight most of your battles with a mace, you may want to choose the perk that allows you to ignore armor while using the weapon. As in Fallout 3, several of the perks have their own leveling system as well, allowing you to choose them multiple times. Once you choose a perk, it lights up the corresponding star in the constellation, making it visible when looking up to the heavens while interacting in the world.

“When you glance to the sky after you’ve played the game for a while, what you’re seeing in the sky is different than what somebody else is seeing based on the constellations,” Howard says.

How much is 100% accurate I have no clue.
However going on this I'd say that Birthsigns are now no longer a starting trait effect like before.
Rather you can focus on a parent BS like Thief, then go for the shadow..
If you get all perks related to that constellation then I'd say the last was an uber perk that gave a bonus related to that Birth sign constellation.
However this is speculation on my part.

I think it might be cool if, instead of birthsigns being selectable during character creation as an immediate way of boosting your character's attributes, your character's abilities are "latent" and as you begin to train in skills, the three guardian constellations seen in the menu screenshot begin to become more apparent to you and perhaps begin to manifest themselves as additional benefits.

Of course, I'm basically just describing a slower-acting version of perks.

I like them since it gives some initial differentiation, and lends role-play background to my character.

Yeah, I hope they are staying. I really liked the idea of birthsigns, and how they force a change in play style. So if I choose a different birthsign then I am forced to think of new strategies to be the best. But seeing as classes are out I think it is likely that birthsigns are too.

Well, the majority of birthsigns in previous games were useless...so I don't really care. They're bringing in perks, which can add the effects of constellations and more.

I hope they are still there.

I would be very sad if they had been removed.

Well it definitely sounds like they are still in. I think the real question would be if attributes is out, as this has also been rumoured, and then, what are the birth signs going to do if that is so? Grant a perk?

It hasn't been confirmed that they're in. That means... THEY'RE OUT! Don't deny it! You can see the facts plain as day, it all points to them being out! :ahhh:

But you stop getting them at level 50, so even if the oft-tossed-around number of 280 is correct, you won't be racking them all up on one character in a single playthrough. :P

They better be in! I mean they don't screw up the leveling like the classes did, so they don't really need to be removed.

I don't care if they give an effect or not, I just want them in because it's a unique feature to the Tamriel character! Even if they're just about as effective as your custom name!

~280 perks, quoted by Todd.

That's not necessarily individual perks, but is including the different levels within the perks. Still, that's a heck-of-a-lot. We don't need birth-signs!

Well I believe Birth signs still in game but now they are starting perks, do you remember thats three major birth signs (The Warrior, The Mage, The Thief) protect other birth signs from The Snake?
Choosing staring perks will simulate classical character creation, thats better then old one there still no classes but player already take first steps into specialization.
From other side advantages and disadvantages can also be applied at this stage of character creation, there can be starting perks thats can be chosen only at beginning of game, since we have limited number of perks disadvantages can expand thats limit giving us opportunity to take another starting perk in cost of an disadvantage.

It has not been confirmed that birthsigns aren't in the game, but it has not been confirmed that they are either, we can only wait and see. But I've heard it said that race is the most major choice you'll make at the start of the game, which might possibly indicate the lack of birthsings, but you can make of that what you will.
