Bit Disappointed?

It's apples and oranges to me. I loved FO3 and all it's DLC's.

For it's time FO3 was amazing.

F04 seems amazing too...yeah I miss some things from FO3 like the Ranger armor and the extensive subways..

But FO4 adds things like the settlements and better real time combat.

I am still discovering new stuff and have 3 or 4 characters doing different questlines..

Fo3 had 59 quests total(main/side/repeatable) with 3 being in the vault which I don't even count. So 56.

Fo4 has 138 quests total(main/side/repeatable) if you side with the MM/BoS.

There is 129 quests for a Mm/Institute ending.

There's more if you could the RR. That also means if you side Mm/In you ignore all RR/BoS quests but since you can play all sides a while you can have far more quests in the end

I got my character to level 50 before deciding things were a little too dull. That character has been set aside until DLC drops, but for now I'm working on a no-guns runthrough. Jesus, that is a good way to make the game challenging. I think Bethesda did well in the amount of content they provided and the DLC will surely give us many more hours of enjoyment. Looking forward to the upcoming releases!

I'm very satisfied with my purchase, money well spent, on a very good game -- and its Fallout, can't go wrong.

I'm still very much enjoying myself with over 400 hours played. A lot of role playing, getting better armor & weapons for my settlers, upgrading said armor & weapons, legendary hunting (still searching for Two Shot Gauss), building houses & structures at settlements & furnishing them. Displaying weapons, armour & hats in settlements, creating a bunch of drugs & selling them to merchants, collecting power armour & modifying them, pickpocketing, jumping off high buildings in Acrobats armor, mini nuking everything in sight.

I seem to stay pretty busy. :P

I agree with the OP. There's no depth to the story or characters -- especially the characters. FO3 was a role playing game, FO4 is less role playing and more of an action game. It's fun for awhile, but the radiant missions and limited time to respond to settlement attacks and lack of depth combine to make an empty game. I'm hoping that mods coming from the release of the CK will improve matters, but very disappointed with Bethesda's judgment in releasing the game in this condition.

FONV was just brown and video game.

FO3 was green and video game.

yeah some people are never happy, they like to complain, it hasn't dissapointed me, some people talk like "i enjoyed it ok" it WAS fun....the came is still relatively new, no dlc out yet, a lot of that to come in the next year and they talk like they are done with the game, its a huge game, i'v e restarted eeveral times, haven't done all the quests, haven't visited all the locations etc so i doubt most of these people that are "done" with the game really played it for all its worth, they did the main quest and thats it, they didn't explore the entire map, they didn't clear every dungeon, they didn't collect many bobbleheads, didn't do many settlements, so its not their type of game, to me its a great game for just getitng lost in for hours and hours.

Fallout 4 is highly enjoyable, but I can't and I doubt few can claim that it is a special game. Fallout 4 is arguably the better game mechanically and overall, with a greater totality and variety of content. But...

What made Fallout 3 special for many, wasn't the abundance of quests (because there wasn't an abundance), or the multifarious ways to modify just about everything (because crafting was extremely limited); it was the world and the sense of wonderment it's atmosphere engendered.

Fallout 3 STILL feels special to play, despite its paucity of quests and limited customisation options; the capital wasteland oozes a depressing wonderment that Fallout 4 conspicuously lacks.

One of the salient lackings of Fallout 4 is its relatively neutered atmosphere in contrast to Fallout 3.

For the most part I'd say 4 is better. There are a few things I dont like such as the massive amount of Bobby pins, stim packs and other various objects. Though 3 had a better setting, but a lot of my opinion on that comes from living in the DC area. Was really fun finding places I knew and had even been to. And even though 4 will never have the novelty or newness three did, I'll definitely get more hours of fun out of it. I don't really think I could say which is better. They're both awesome games, but not for the same reasons

Well I hope you stick to the forums despite the fishy stick slackers. I do not agree with your post, just because well I like the game so much, but I am pretty easy to please and admittedly overlook lots of stuff that does not really irk me as much as maybe it should. But it was still a very good post, about where you found it lacking. Who knows who reads these and might take a few pointers away....

Spoiler
on vault 81 cough I had exactly this problem as well....... Then it dawned on me you know this game I did not rescue preston cause well I was sick of hearing about settlemets problems, so in fact I Did not have the story to tell the children to advance the mission.....opps yours might be different but could be the same dang sticking point.

Getting 300-400 hours out of a single-player game is damn good and we'll worth the price. Only with Bethesda games (Fallout/TES) can I put in so much time. Fallout 3 and Oblivion I have close to 600 hours or more, I'm sure.

But Fallout 4 is enjoyable. However, it is disappointing in other aspects that have already been discussed many a time in these forums. I'm looking forward to Survival overhaul and future unannounced DLC content though.

Out of the newer main plotlines... Fallout 4 has best main plotline. (Fallout 3 is completely trashy and annoying. New Vegas has a lot of issues). So honestly. Fallout 4 mainplot is better and good. May not be the best part of the game... But it isn't bad.

What Fallout 4 does worst is the dialogue system.

This isn't Skyrim. It's Fallout. There's simply not enough content to get lost in lol. I mean there's a lot, but it is far more manageable to almost everything in a Fallout games vs a TES game.

I'm really enjoying the game, honestly. The only part of it that I'm not too interested in is the building settlement mechanic. Not hating on it or saying that it's crap or anything, just doesn't interest me. Other than that, I can't stop playing :)

In my opinion the story for FO 4 was trashy compared to the story, factions & characters in FNV. I wholeheartedly agree with your statement about FO 3 & the dialogue system for 4.

I must admit though, I'm still hopeful that Bethesda will step it up with the upcoming dlcs. Hopefully we will end up with a game that old school & new school FO fans can both enjoy. Building my own robo bodyguard has me pretty damn excited.

Eh. I can go out on how bad a lot of the factions were in NV and such, which ruins the story for me but... I'm not that type of guy. You have ye' own opinions and thoughts, and I don't wish to ruin them with my own.

It's all good, FNV had flaws aplenty. For me it also had a lot of charm that I really enjoyed if that makes sense.

I actually do like FO 4, but at times I can get a little grumpy about some of the things that FO 4 didn't do so well.

Best answer to the OP by Mr. Eden. Agree 100%. I'm a huge Beth fan and even bigger Fallout fan but this was a very underwhelming experience. Now with that said, I've logged over 300 hours of gameplay because comparatively, it is still better than anything out there (minus Skyrim).

Gameplay Mechanics it is probably the best to date by Bethesda. There are a few more things that felt unexplored in the perk chart but other than that it's great.

Mission/Quest/Story structure. It is the worst to date. I'll be honest in the fact that I prefer a simpler story structure with better set pieces as opposed to a twisting plot line. Bethesda tried to appease fans but it fell flat to me. There is so much lost opportunity lost due to an over reliance of "Radiant Quests". I love the idea and for repeatable mission structures I think the thieves guild in Skyrim handled it best. It had it's own slight meta. That still doesn't negate the fact the most missions in F4 felt completely underwhelming due to radiant quests. Focus more on crafting good faction storylines. Then make fun little meta game repeatable missions, don't rely on them as a crutch.

Edit: And for [censored]s sake make mission selection in dialogue a thing. I hate having npc's lip vomit their woes to me and clogging my quest log with [censored] I don't want to do yet.

bethesda games aren't about deep stories and actually the followers have a lot of dialogue and interact a lot with the environment and other npcs so its more complex in that regard, if a story is "too deep" that takes away from the sandbox do what you want type of game, it narrows what you can do, you don't get "DEEP story and open world sandbox at the same time, its one or the other, its better to make a game either one way or the other than to try to be a "jack of all trade" type of game, games with deep stories limit you in other areas, and bethesda doesn't do "deep story" games, the stories are adequate enough to serve the purpose of the map and gameworld.

FO3 had characters? who exactly? :D

I can't remember anyone. Even New Vegas did a better job there by having interesting NPCs such as House or Boone.

It seems like you're limiting yourself too much to the settlement system with its radiant quests.

Ignoring them makes the game way more enjoyable... and even without them, there's still 3 times as much content as there was in FO3.

Good combat mechanics don't make a game immediately an 'action' game... -_-

Do we really have to cripple the shooting aspect of the game like it was in FO3 and FONV, just so that it feels less like a shooter?

Try replaying vanilla Fallout 3 today ^^ You'll hardly find any quests at all, the world will feel very deserted and empty... you'll finish the game within 50 hours completely.

It's nowhere near the size of a Skyrim or FO4, where you get completely flooded with quests and have 10+ of them in your inventory all the time.

I dont complain much about fallout 4 but it seems as a lot of planned quests got cancelled and named npcs just left as hostiles.

This pops up all the time. It annoys me because it plays with my emotions, on one hand it excites me that after 500 hours of gameplay I still find new areas and npcs on the other hand I get dissapointed when I with my excitement walk up to this unique npc with unique clothing just to get shoot in the face.

Last example was yesterday when I discovered a church with a ghoul named "Father Gabe" inside. He was attacked by feral ghouls (?!) and litterary called out for help, and yet he just shoot me. No backstory, nothing. Dissapointing.

Fallout 4 for me is a big improvement over 3, as while I enjoyed 3 it just did not wow me in the same way as I really hated the story and lack of main quest options as the Brotherhood just bored me in 3, I did not want to fight with them.

I do miss the blank slate protagonist and much stronger IMO story & script writing we got from NV.

Story aside though, Fallout 4 is a big gameplay improvement over the previous two titles, they really know how to make combat and their worlds fun to explore.
