Bit of math around the sub-fee

Post » Sat Feb 15, 2014 4:48 pm

Hi there,

since there are a lot of people complaining about the monthly fee, I wanted to do a bit of math around it: (besides this good article: http://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/1vsez2/why_im_happy_eso_is_not_f2p_by_someone_who_works/ )

Let's take a few things to spend time and money and calculate their costs per hour (I take the prices from here in Germany ):

Cinema visit: average price 12€, with a 2h movie that is: 6€/h

Billiard: Table per hour 8€ - 8€/h

Bowling: 30€ for 2h, that is 15€/h

Cigarettes: 5€ for 20 cigarettes, let's assume you smoke one in 5 min, which makes 12x0,25€ = 3€/h

Now, let's take TESO with 13€/month:

I am aware I just cannot simply take 24hx30 days, so let's split between players, hard-, mediocore and casual gamers.

hardcoe, let's assume they will play 30h per week (I know some do more, some less ), that's 120h/month, which is: ~0,11€/h

Mediocore, let's take 15h per week, that is 60h/month, which is: ~0,22€/h

Casual, let's go down to 5h per week, which is 20h/month and: 0,65€/h

Just my 2 cents to the math around the sub-fee, for me the arguments listed in the article linked above are more than a reason, why I do like the sub-model...

Cya around folks!

We covered this months ago when it was still up in the air what it would be. We won, don't worry!

New readers are appearing all the time. I think it is important to make people realize just how cheap a hobby an MMO really is compared to most other common activities, over and over.

Yeah, that and the lots and lots of comments in Angry Joe's vids made me do this, I couldn't stand the overall hate against the sub-model anymore...

So true, mate! ;)

I wonder why People always calculate the cost of ESO by the most expensive payment model, the 1 month at a time. Let's say it is 13 euro per month if you buy 1 month, the 3 month offer is probably around 30 euro and 12 month could very well be 99 euro, just saying...

I'll play a game with a sub model every time over a micro transaction economy. The damage perfect world online did to my bank balance was horrific! Was spending over £25 a week!!

At least here I pay my £8.99 and that's it :)

That's probably because there haven't been any long-term plans revealed :)

I'm also hoping for the 100 euro (120 dollar) / 12 month deal.

I just calculated with the 13€, because most of the criticism goes against the sub-model itself, I don't think people complaining about it would do it less, in case it is a bit cheaper... But yeah, you are right, in the past I mostly had a 3 month sub in games I liked... ;)

Because it is the worst case scenario. Take the maximum price and work from that. If there aren't discounts for multiple months, you're done and can decide based on the cost. If there are discounts, then the price is lower, and you know you're paying less.
