Ahem... well I feel I should give something to prove my pedigree as a gamer, and avid Brink lover, before you all write me off for just joining. I have been on these forums almost everyday for more than the past year, vehemently following this game. Reading your posts and laughing at how foolish some "gamers" are, but also inspired to see that there actually is a fanbase for this type of FPS besides my brother and I, with a lot of similiar views on shooters in general. After reading the OP, I had to create an account and put in my two cents, because I know exactly where he/she is coming from.
(A little bit of my gaming background, skip ahead to the next paragraph if you like)
A very good friend and I started a local CoD clan when we were juniors in high school, this was right after the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Of course that game was and is amazing, so we quickly gathered followers. There are about six of us that have been getting on and playing FPShooters together almost every night since then. We are all 20 now, and we all grew up on Halo and CoD, which in my book have always been solid FPS, but I will admit that I was getting tired of the same recyled CoD game after like 4 years in a row. So naturally when I first heard about Brink I was very intreagued. Shortly after I did some initial research I pre-ordered the game to get my soda can silencer, and started trying to sway the rest of my clan away from the same old FPS nonsense and onto to something that I saw as extremely innovative and full of potential. When the game released four of us got it, now I am the only one who still owns a copy.
The reason I had to reply to your post is beacuse I was, and still am a bit, disgusted by how my clan mates call themselves gamers and fans of the FPS genre, when the made there minds up about this game after like 5 hours of gameplay, kind of, actually exactly like that idiotic reviewer from IGNorant reviews. Anyways, what I'm getting at is that when you have a game this new and this unprecidented, you need to give time, at least time enough for an initial patch, at least enough time to get one character to level 20, or get some of the ridulously easy-to-get achievements for this game. The more I play, the more I effing LOVE this game, and after SMARTing everywhere, and working with my team, and completing objectives, I can't imaging going back to the plethora of boring, linear, go this way over and over and when you die just keep doing it some more FPShooters that are clogging the unique, and innovative arteries of the gaming industry.
This game deffinitely deserves more praise, and respect, than it's getting. Even if it svcked, the developers still had the balls to deliver a new and unique FPS, and frankly I think they nailed it with loads of fun. Unfortunately, like I said, out of four of us, only I still have the game, but love it too might I add. I did however convince a different clan member to get the game last night, we only played for a little bit, but I made sure he approched it with the right state of mind and I was there to give him ammo and throw flashbang molotovs and what not. After a few hours he loves it. So essentially the point I've been trying to make, is that the people who've already returned this game are fools and will most likely not pick it up again or give it another chance, but this game, I feel, right now has more potential than any other FPS out there, and I feel that people who get the game after the patch is released and actually give it more than a few hours, will come to love and cherish this game for what it is, genius.
