Bits of news from Tokyo Game Show

Post » Fri Sep 16, 2011 8:30 am

Sorry, I can't post any kind of source here, but believe me it's all true

1) Khajiit walking/running/fighting animations look exactly the same as Nord's we've seen, forget about race-specific animations. The tail moves nice, but not that much better than Oblivion's to me.
2) Wolves have Wolf Pelt that weighs 1 and cost 7.
3) Quest target NPCs have a huge mark over the head. Yes, I wish I made this up. //okay, not that huge. It's a neat grey arrow, in style of the rest of the HUD
4) Some bits from a dialogue with Alvar the smith we've seen:
Spoiler
We are saved from prison by a guy called Hadvar of Hadvor. He says Alvar could help us with something. A dragon atacked Helgen (I guess it's a town) and destroyed it (looks like we have a new Kvatch). This Hadvar and our Dovahkiin escaped together. Looks like this Helgen is the place where we were to be executed. But weird Hadvar is not Esbern.

5) Small stuff is not weightless anymore. Carrot weighs 0.1 and costs 1 :celebration: . Looks like we have different sorts of cheese, because there is "Eidar Cheese Wedge". Jewels are still pointeless, a garnet costs 7 :sadvaultboy:
6) There are very many towns, by the look of direction sign (very Morrowind-like, many arrows on it).
7) A new finisher for wolves, Dovahkiin picks up a wolf with his left hand and hits his axe into unprotected neck. Looks more badass than sounds.
8) There is "Empty" indicator on empty containers, like in Fallout.
9) Run-sprint conversion looks too impetuous (I guess that's the word). I wanted something more gradual.
10) Dovahkiin can easily kill 3 bandits in open combat on level 1. I hope that's because of the lowered difficulty for the demo.
11) Underwear looks more like in Morrowind, better than Oblivion's.

I still don't get if there are markers over quest-related NPC's heads why Arvel didn't have one.

EDIT: Also, Alvor never had one and from what people are saying, he's a quest-related NPC. Potential to turn it off?

Maybe they added this after the E3 demo. In the footage I'm talking about he absolutely clearly has one. Looks like the markers near equipped items in the inventory

Maybe it's just on the head of the active quest npcs

Looked different to me, but it might be the axe.
3) Quest target NPCs have a huge mark over the head. Yes, I wish I made this up.

That was hardly huge, it was just like the compass arrow moves from the compass itself to over the target.
It's just more convenient really.

8) There is "Empty" indicator on empty containers, like in Fallout.

Can't wait for the "Immersion" and the "hand holding" comments about this...
9) Run-sprint conversion looks too impetuous (I guess that's the word). I wanted something more gradual.

It's a sprint, don't know how gradual would it be. It's like the difference between walk and run.
11) Underwear looks more like in Morrowind, better than Oblivion's.

...yet for some reason I can't stop thinking about the possible underwear/nvde/body mods...

This could be it. I don't think they will put markers over the heads of people with new quests you've never heard of, which is good.

In the demo, the claw quest wasn't Todd's objective. It was another quest; you can see it in the world map. The quest marker icon is pointing to a dungeon east-northeast (or something) of Riverwood.

I'm looking at said footage I don't see anything above Alvor's head. I would think he is an active quest if someone sent you to him am I wrong?

Edit: ok there is an arrow over his head after you say something to him then it goes away.

I saw the finisher on the wolf, and it did look very good. Note also : It was very swift and did not interupt in anyway. That's the kind of varity i want to see in combat.

Yes, after some thinking, maybe I overreacted a bit. It's just too MMO for a TES game. It's not huge, and I guess it's really only for quest target NPCs (as I said in OP). But I'd much rather don't have it

yes it is true though its not huge, like a glowing Los Vegas sighn above their head saying "YOUR QUEST TARGET IS HEAR!". No its basically the compass marker pasted over their head.

I'm sure the quest marker above head thing will be completely optional since they've been obsessed with HUD removal. Everything else I am okay with except that hunting doesnt sound like a viable money making option.

 yeah no idea it was a Khajiit for a few minutes. My reactions ranged from "what the heck is that thing" to "Is he wearing a scarf around his waist?" to "Cool cloth physics!" to "No can't be, probably animated still ,cool movement" and finally "Oh it's a Khajiit, good to finally see some non-Nord footage"

I don't see a big deal with a quest marker above someone's head, I swear people complain about everything.

Uh, I just saw a TGS vid of Skyrim with a Khajiit in it. They look great. Tail moves when they run and all. At first I didn't realize it was a Khajiit because it's wearing the generic Dohvakiin armor like the poster Nord for the game. I was like, why is he standing so weird? Then I saw the tail and realized it was a beast stance.

From all the videos so far, id say there is nothing like that apart from horse riding, and maybe dragons? But even then im not sure about dragons, that could have been Todd showing off a 3rd person dragon finishing move~

It did seem big at first. When Alvar was far away, it was twice as large as his head. That's because it doesn't change in size depending an how close you are.
