Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:11 pm

i've installed oblivion but when i click play a black box appears at the top left corner and then my computer says

"Oblivion has stopped working

Windows is checking for a solution to the probelm..."

then it says

"Oblivion has stopped working

A probelm caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available``

what do i do

TTBOMK, when the game was new, that meant you had ignored the minimum System Requirements and had a system incapable of running the game.

I''ve been playing other games, and returned because of FNLV, but I imagine that the error problem and resolution are the same (replace the useless parts -- the entire thing, in the case of a laptop).

Please post a dxdiag:
Start - Run (if Vista or Win 7, the search box acts like Run) - type dxdiag - hit Enter - "save all info" button - open txt file and copy/paste EVERYTHING here

No one "checked" that machine at all. Intel makes no video cards for 3D games. None.

Just as that failure symptom telegraphed, failed. Sorry.

You do need a better GPU in order to run the game, but you have a slim line tower, so your choices are a bit limited. You do also have a 250W PSU, which is somewhat weak for most of the cards out there.

http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-inspiron-530s-desktop/4507-3118_7-32486101.html?tag=mncolBtm;rnav The GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is the video card. A slimline tower is a computer thats case is smaller then most standard cases. The 250W PSU (Power Supply Unit) converts AC power from the outlet to DC power and sends it to the components. 250Watts is somewhat low for most cards out there today. How much are you willing to spend?

If the OP could find a 256 MB version of the X1600 Pro video card, that is also Low Profile, it ran fine on only 250 Watts, while I can't recall any Geforce that could do so readily and handle the game as well (nVIDIA claimed that the FXes and the 6200 could all run the game, and Bethesda swallowed that lie, but the low end ones that didn't need 300 watts-plus (5200, 5500, 5700 LE, 6200) couldn't do any better than an Intel graphics chip can.

P. S. (In Edit) I found an X1650 Pro with 256 MBs, NIB, on eBay, with the auction only four hours from ending, but I don't know as specifically that it is fully as low-demand on power as its older brother, the X1600 . .

Yes, but you have to be careful about it to choose one with a low power consumption and a low profile video card.

This is an inappropriate venue in which to seek remedial schooling in computer use that you should already know. On the other hand, tens of millions of pages of tutorial materials are extremely easily found using a search tool such as Google, in every language, in videos, illustrations, the entire ball of wax is out there.

At its most basic, you own a very inexpensive bit of a PC that is seriously out of date, but this game is getting "old" anyway, so your computer isn't particularly older than the game is. It needs more power supply if you cannot locate an older model video graphics card to install. They are difficult to find any more, as witness not a single one of the X1600 Pro cards in the required size being for sale on eBay.

I don't know that a 250 Watt PSU will run an X1650 Pro reliably, so besides the cost of a video card, a $40 power supply may be needed.

Your CPU is sufficiently capable, you have enough memory (RAM), so what is lacking is a Game-capable video graphics card from the past four years, and you will be playing the game to your heart's content. (The eBay video card will be out of your reach in just a couple of hours now.)

70$

Good enough budget for this card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102829&cm_re=radeon_4650-_-14-102-829-_-Product

Power supply will be more than adequate...many have upgraded their Inspiron 530s systems with this card and it will get you some high settings.
