Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 4:38 am

Got my crysis DVD today. Was excited to play it but couldn't make it run on my machine.
I have a directx 9.0c compliant nvidia card with 512 mb memory, 3 gm ram and all other spec meet the requirement mentioned on the box.
Here is the pic. You can see that i can reach till screen no 2 and after the submarine animation is over, i see a black screen with only audio playing.
I have tried lowering down the graphics level to the lowest , still dosent work. ANy help on would be great.

4 go ram
Windwos 7 32bit
Nvidia geforce gtx 460
Your first problem, 4Gb RAM on a 32 bit operating system. 32bit systems can't manage more than 3+Gb RAM (less than 4Gb), including the video card memory. So, to the RAM you have to add the video card memory and you have more than what a 32bit system can handle and it causes errors (not always, but they are there).

So, change your OS to an 64bit one or lower your RAM.

having too much ram in a 32 bit operating system does not cause errors the os simply ignores the extra system ram.

are you using any kind of advanced graphics commands in any config files??

also try forcing a Direct X update download the DirectX Redistributable from the offical website http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3

also try reinstalling the visual c++ runtimes from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf

see if any of that helps you.

i had some problems like these, my problem was with the cooling.
after playing for a certain amount of time.. (depending on how hard it is for my pc to follow)
my screen went black and said ''entering sleep mode'' game still running and all that.
what i did at first was taking a pause every once in a while by keeping crysis on but going to my desktop and then continuing the game.

after that i decreased the frame rate a bit and my resolution and i didnt have this problem anymore (till now)
this seemed to work for good instead of shotrt periods

advanced graphic options
search on google for crysis 2 advanced graphic options and you'll find it
you will lag a bit more depending on how much you downgrade your FPS

Did anyone figure out a solution for this?

I have recorded 2 video captures of the "Black Screen" bug in Crysis 2. Both have been submitted to EA Customer support and I am waiting for a solution.

Video # 1 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kapWmaTrlNA

After the video at the end of which Prophet shoots himself, I can move around in this first room without any graphics problem. Then I go to the door and break the padlock. After a few steps in the next room the screen goes black. Walking backwards through the door and switching resolution restores the display, but only until I move again forward. At some point, I hear further dialogs about dead marines, etc ...

In the dark, I walk back through the door to the first room and switch resolution. I can again walk around in this room without any display problem. Why does the screen turn black just after I have passed the door to the next room ? And why are graphics flawless again when I am back in the first room ?

Video # 2 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lahnkOVnPis

After several resolution switches, I can slowly move forward step by step in this level, until I reach the point where I can see the iron curtain. From there on, the graphics display properly until I open the door at the top of the building. Every attempt to go past this door results in a black screen. Here again, walking backwards through the door and switching resolution restores the graphics display.

My guess is that the code of the game contains some kind of instruction or parameter which disables the display of the textures in specific environment conditions.

yes, i have the latest drivers for all my stuff

This can be exactly your problem, newest drivers are in many cases unstable, some of drivers can cause just one single graphic error, while next version completely mess up graphic.

Start testing drivers from newest and go back with versions, and you will be able to see which version is better. When i was Nvidia user i didn't use newest drivers because there was always some problems, and only some few months old drivers were working flawlessly.

Well that's a lengthy process . I think EA support should guide us. If i don't get a solution soon.. i ll have to probably dump the game. :(

I have posted a detailed description of this "black screen" problem on 16 Apr 2011, together with links to video captures :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kapWmaTrlNA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lahnkOVnPis

The problem has also been submitted to EA Customer Support and forwarded to the development team.
This site is titled as "The Official Crysis Community". Does anyone from Crytek care about the fact that I have purchased this game on 2 Apr 2011 and still cannot use it more than 3 weeks later ?
