Black Super-Mutants

Post » Fri Nov 13, 2009 10:16 pm

This thread is about my proposal of Black Mutants. Let me just say, i don't mean that they got their colour from the enviroment or any other variable, but like the Warhammer series the stronger the Mutant the blacker the skin.

Although this would require a bit of lore bending, it would make a great Fallout 4 addition. Many people have complained the DC Mutants are underpowered/weak and wan't to fight the straggelers of the Master's army. Well, maybe the survivors have survived for many years and hardened themselves and formed an elite group of dark skinned mutants. Another way to include this would to have yet another freak accident in an Enclave facility, but i prefer the former.

I think that this idea of enhanced "Black Mutants" would be a nice little miniboss wich could add a bit more difficulty and be an intresting additon to Fallout's cast of monsters.

All opinions are appreciated

If you liked this you might like my other Fallout 4 suggestion: (http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=951700)

I wouldn't mind having elite supermutants running around. A wandering squad of them would be interesting.

The bosses with darker skin cliche would be out of place in Fallout.

Also, the Master's Army already had their elite troops - the Nightkin:

Ausir has stormed the proverbial barricades!

But, in all seriousness, why would it be out of place? This game is built on cliches.
My post states the Mutants could of evolved to survive.

It might be built on cliches, but this one is a fantasy cliche, not a 50s sci-fi or post-apoc cliche.

We already have the Nightkin, I don't see the need of another group of elite mutants, this time with black skin. Unlike Warhammer, there's no reason nor precedent for "the stronger the Mutant the blacker the skin".

No Nightkin in London..I mean in other parts of America

I think the dark skinned debate could go on all day but let's just agree to disagree.

Who said anything about London? You did mention your "black mutants" being the survivors of the Master's Army. And among these survivors are some of the Nightkin, aren't they?

I don't care about the color here. Nighetkin or whatever, roving bands of elite supermutants would add to the game.

Whatever happens to the Nightkin is irrelevant, my exact law theories over where they are count for nothing. The London thing was a comical remark, based on my bias for wanting a London based Fallout. Failing the Black Mutants are part of the Masters army then they could be a different breed.

But all in all the above poster has the right idea, it's not a lore fest, more of a nice elite enemy.

I'll go with Ausir on this: we have already have the Nightkin which fill exactly the same sort of niche the OP would be talking about filling. And of course, the Behemoths, as well. I just don't see a need to bring another subset of Supermutant into the mix.

Frak, if anything, I'd say if there's a niche you could fill it would be something closer to a goblin - that's the only type of Mutant we don't already have is some annoying little dude running up to you and hacking at your kneecaps...

Goblins... *shudders* wouldn't that be another fantasy cliche?

Maybe if Black Mutants existed the Nighkin somehow.....Had an accident....

I don't have a problem with ripping off fantasy cliches, if it serves a useful purpose in the game. I'm not against the idea of Black Supermutants because it's ripped off of Warhammer'a Black Orcs, but because I don't see what purpose they'd serve. Again, there's already something filling that niche of more powerful Supermutants - the Nightkin (Elite Supermutants with better technology.) There's no reason to add in something that's already there.

It would be like adding in Skeletons to serve as a creepy mindless monster you can encounter in sewers and such. You already have Feral Ghouls - why add in what's already in the game?

(And I don't know why - but it doesn't feel racist to me if I say Black Orc; and yet it seems odd to me seeing Black Supermutant.)

Stating something is black or white is far from racist. Say i was describing someone, it would be prefectley acceptable to say "Black male, middle aged"

I take your point, but from the concept art iv'e seen of the Nightkin, i feel bulky elite Mutants would feel better, rather than strong humans.

Hey Ausir, that was something I've been meaning to ask you. Were the Nightkin really dark-skinned? Or was that just an effect of the Stealthboys? And weren't they a part of the few intelligent Super Mutants?

Anyway, regardless of their color. They were damn creepy in the first game and one of my favorite enemies. I'd really love to see them again. :)

No, they weren't black-skinned. They were just using the Stealth Boys. And yeah, they comprised of the intelligent super mutants.

They were simply the elite, smarter super mutants with better technology, like the black mutants that the OP proposes.

They don't. They look like super mutants. Which they are. Only difference is that they're usually cloaked with Stealth Boys.

They look like jungle commandos from the wiki picture.

But anyway, in the eye of the beholder.

If you read the caption, you'd know that the picture in the wiki is from the canceled http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Pen_and_Paper_d20 PnP RPG. It's not canon. The nightkin look just like regular super mutants in-game in FO1, only stealthed.

Well then maybe Nightkin could be implimented into the game as the new mini booss type mutants.

Hah, that'd be funny to see - even if I'd get confused and think I was in Warhammer - a tiny mutant trying to kneecap me. As for an "elite" super mutant, nah. I can't see the idiotic Vault-87 SMs producing highly skilled and equipped SMs especially since there's no command figure like the Master to create them, equip them, etc. Given that the DC SMs seem more like raiders it wouldn't mesh as well. But then again, heh, it's "kewl".
